  1. Perhaps i should have said 'anyone'. Who do you think we should/could sign that will realistically come to us, improve us, & not choose another club in a better position given the choice? We're in the most dire bargaining position at the moment. Come the summer, if we stay up we can attract premiere league players to play for a miracle worker who kept us in the league. If we go down we can attract the best of the championship players to play for one of the biggest teams in the land. This January is about as difficult as it gets....being backed with millions or not
  2. It's not an excuse...its fact. So you think we just need to sign 'someone'?
  3. My point was about the relevance/importance of money spent, either net or gross, and success of the team. I agree that at times, with more money spent, we 'may' have improved. The important thing is how/who spends it. I think mon would have got us to where we got with less money. I think 50 million given to a decent manager in the summer would have been enough to keep us in this league. Throughout all these scenario's, randy has stumped up the cash...sometimes too much....sometimes to little....his major failure has been poor choice of people to work for him. Do you think another 20million spent on a striker in the summer would have made our defence less shi ite? And I'd argue a 'free' adebeyor would have added to our woes. This situation has been a long time coming through a succesion of poor decisions more so than lack of backing/investment.
  4. So the teams sitting in 16th 17th 18th & 19th haven't had problems signing players so why should we?? Afobe's agent....it's been your boyhood dream to play in the premiere league and Bournemouth & villa are after you. Villa have offered more but they're 10 points adrift at the bottom of the league...so you will probably be back in the championship next year on less money. Shelveys agent...you're desperate to leave swansea and newcastle & villa want you...villa have offered more but they're 10 points adrift at the bottom so it looks like you would be on less money next year in a lesser league. Naismiths agent....norwich & villa are in for you...villa have offered more but they're 10 points adrift at the bottom so it looks like you would be on less money next year in a lesser league. Townsends agent....you get my drift? Even if we were offering these type of players more money they ain't coming to a team 20th in the league 10 points adrift....so yes, the idea we are being impeded by our league position is about as obvious as phil thompsons nose. Imo of course
  5. On your view about spending money.... If the premiere league was a table made up of clubs transfer spend since randy lerner took over we would be top ten, very possibly 6 th ( without researching it) Net spend of 9 million in the summer yes..... BUT WE STILL SPENT OVER 50 MILLION POUNDS. If benteke & delph would have left for nothing and we had spent 9 million quid we would still be bottom because you can't get any lower. Now that says to me....its not about how much you spend, it's how you spend it, and more importantly who you trust to spend it. I'm sure if mr sherwood was still here we would have sign a raft of players this window...and we would all be getting excited (see summer 2015) until realisation kicks in and they're all shi ite. I don't know whether remi is going to be good for us or not...but i like him and he sounds like he knows what he is doing, so we have to go with it. He is our only chance to sort things out at the moment. He is not the sort of guy to buy players for the sake of it...nor to placate fans
  6. No.....thats a far to balanced and intelligent view. He's being told who he can sign He's being told who to employ as assistant (have to speak french) He's being told that he has NO money to spend He's being told to forget this season and start buying championship players. He's being told that hollis has come in to asset strip He's being told to put in an offer of 5 million for a keeper who we know won't be able to get a work permit, just so it looks like we're trying You've missed out on a lot of inside info nnock1984...do keep up!
  7. Yes ive paid attention and as far as i can see he has continually backed managers with money...the problem has been the idiots he has employed to spend that money...directly or indirectly. Hypothetically....if randy has said to remi, ok here's 50 million quid to spend, get who u want....who do you think he would be able to sign? Plenty who are not better than we already have, plenty that are not good enough, and the very few that are just ain't gonna come to a team who are 10 points adrift! Who would you like us to sign?
  8. I 'think' that too...i think that he would have liked to have signed half a dozen players that would improve us............. But we're bottom of the league
  9. He was rubbish from the start. I saw him put in the most inept performance i have ever witnessed from a professional footballer. Tottenham at home in his first season. He was playing for the manager that signed him, he'd been given a run in the team, but that day he was absolutely awful. Yes it was an awful team performance, but he visibly was not trying. I argue that it does not matter if you're playing for a shit manager in a shit team, if you're a good player you can still.put in a decent performance.
  10. Would everyone agree that last summer was one of the best for signing players and the optimism that it bought? Everyone was jizzing their pants because we had signed so many players and spent a load of money. If you're not buying players that are better than we already have then that's where the problem lies. In hindsight, of the 13 signed i would say ayew/veretoout/amavi were capable of getting in last years team. So really, we only made 3 decent signings in the summer. We are now bottom of the league by some distance. How much more difficult do you think it is to get decent players in??? Just 'getting some players in' is exactly what got us into this mess. Despite all the conspiracy theorists on here I think remi is being backed for whatever he wants....and he wants the right players. We will probably will have to wait until the last day of the window, thats if we manage to somehow persuade good enough players to come.
  11. How i wish we could have persuaded someone on the brink of retiring, to play in the heart of our defence for just another few months before he conks out
  12. I don't get this 'hung out to dry' talk and lack of backing. Do fans honestly believe we are doing nothing as far as new recruits go? Remi strikes me as wanting the right player with the right attitude...similar to arsene wenger. So that narrows ur options down straight away, add in the fact we are 10 points adrift and it becomes a very difficult situation. Look, sherwood was backed in the summer and given free reign, whether the money was from the benteke/delph sales or not, he still spent 50mill. Doesn't that show you that throwing money at it is not the answer, never has been and never will be!! We need intelligent recruitment of the right sort of player, and that will take time. Yes i think its too late to save us this season but hopefully remi is starting to put the right attitude in place for the future. Im sure newcastle will still be in the same situation next season even after spending 30mill this window...thats if they stay up!!
  13. Exactly this. What's the point of bringing players in for the sake of it, & if they're not going to fit in or improve the team?? If we cant get the right player then don't get anyone at all, wasn't that timmys downfall in the summer?
  14. Him being backed or not isn't the issue imo. I'm pretty sure we're working hard to get players in....but, like i said earlier, we're not in the best position to entice players here are we? Think if anything does happen it will be on deadline day
  15. Some dead wood has gone...cole, Bennett, crespo, illori. We have just about the worst bargaining position with players, be it loan, prem quality or champ quality. We can hardly say its a disgrace. Newcastle will be in a similar position next season...thats if they stay up....even by spendin 17mill. See season under lambert, re cisshoko & others that they spent millions on
  16. This myth about guzan being a good shot stopper is tiresome.
  17. This guy was average at his very best. How can he be so highly rated when he let so many goals in year after year. As soon as we get a quality keeper it will make the world of difference and i think people will only realise then how bad he has been. I think it was the watford game where he summed it up for me. We had a freekick near the touchline in our own half....guzan came over to take it. In his infinite wisdom he decides not to kick long down the pitch, but to square it to richards, who is then under immediate pressure. He panics and gets rid quickly whilst guzan is now scampering back to the gaping empty net he left. What the hell was he thinking?? He's erratic and a panic merchant. I can't wait to see the back of him
  18. He wasn't out of position for vardys lob....how many times!!...jeeez
  19. What has veretout said about sherwoods methods?
  20. Cost us a goal? Where did you expect him to be...rooted to his goal line? Fantastic save and almost kept the second shot out. Penalty save. Second half when vardy was through he came out and forced vardy wide. I had visions of vardy being brought down, penalty being given and a red card...then i realised it wasn't guzan. Utterly utterly stupid???....behave
