Much as I like Freddie as a character isn't he one of those players who people are thinking is better than he was simply because Elmo has been rubbish last couple of games? Guilbert put in two of the worst performances I have ever seen by a full back last season against Southampton and Leicester away; Elmo was sensational last night in comparison. I'm pleased he's having a good season; he's a likeable character and I agree a much better back up than Elmo but he's nowhere near Cash's level. I don't think he would have made any difference last night.

Whenever I watched Sheff Utd last year I thought Berge was their stand out player (although granted that wasn’t that much). He seemed very comfortable on the ball and a physical presence. I’d definitely take him.

When teams are doubling up on Jack, it's obviously planned from the start so Smith needs to get smart, see what's happening and react appropriately. Given that none of our other players make the most of the space that this should create for them, he needs to move Jack into the middle, take Barkley off and bring on Al-Ghazi or Trez early.

My favourite part of the match was Dougs measured pass into the hoardings. We were so bad it actually made me laugh at that point. Never seen us give the ball away so cheaply.

Good to see Mings finally cut out his usual ‘once a match duff bit of showboating’ and remembered his primary job is to defend. Excellent display from him, along with the others at the back.

Some great goals. Cannot say enough about the assist by Barkley for number two though. Superb technique.

I’m pretty sure Townsend does have a soft spot for the Villa but tries far too hard to be unbiased and goes in the opponents favour too much. (At least that’s what I want to believe)

The Everton game at the time was a record in England for the most black players fielded in one team. Not sure if that still stands. I recall Big Ron saying in an interview after , “I have no problem with race, I often play blacks against whites in training!”
