  1. His statement has been released through the League Managers' Association: "I am very disappointed that I will not be able to carry on in my role as manager of Aston Villa. I knew when I took on the role that it would be a big challenge, but it proved to be one I greatly enjoyed and I know I have learned a lot from this experience. Obviously, the initial priority was to stay in the Premier League, but beating Liverpool in the FA Cup semi at Wembley and then leading the team out for the final was an achievement and experience that I will treasure for the rest of my career. I'd like to thank my coaching staff and the staff throughout the club for their dedication, the Villa fans for their passionate support and the players, who gave everything during my time at the club. I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season and indeed for the future."
  2. I actually liked the bloke and have no animosity towards him what so ever. In fact, I thank him for keeping us in this division and a great day out at Wembley. It is a shame how results transpired but the players need to shoulder some of the blame for that. Every team, perhaps Man Utd and Man City aside would suffer losing Benteke and arguably Delph so I do feel for him. I think we should be careful when lambasting him because he may have signed and nurtured players that could be the foundations of a successful team in the future. Having had a quick look Jack Grealish, Gary Gardner and Rusian Hepburn Murphy have all expressed their upset and gratitude so he must of done something right for them. I think the club leaking the two game or sacked story was in bad taste but lets hope they redeem themselves with the right appointment. Whoever it be lets get behind him. Thanks and good luck Tim.
  3. Changing of the Garde. Sky Sports News just confirmed they have approached him. Out of all the names brandished he is the one that I could see working. Birmingham has some great galleries too Remi. If not, Maradona so we can have a top party whilst we go down.
  4. Great post and I can't disagree with any of it! He has done enough to keep the majority of fans at bay. At the end of the season IF we can stay in the division the club will be worth more than it ever has been in its history. Next season £5.136bn of TV money is incoming and as a business man he will not be walking away from such a huge influx of cash. He is sitting tight and waiting for the money. Saying we are up for sale was a route to silence us after yet another relegation battle. My concern is how close he skirts to danger. £8.25 million was invested in the summer which in the grand scheme of things is insignificant. After Martin O'Neill he has cut back dramatically. I said at the time that I think the Mcleish appointment was his tricks at work to keep fans at bay. I can't help but think Mcleish was the fall guy for significant cuts. We were always going to suffer with the dramatic drop in fees, wages and player sales but by appointing our arch rivals manager it was never going to fall at Lerners door. Then there was the Lambert transition spiel. Now here we are again and I really think we should take a step back and look at the big picture. There is a mainstay through the clubs problems which should be looked at before the constant damnation of players and manager. I really want Sherwood to succeed because I actually like the bloke and I think anyone who takes the job is brave. I doubt anyone of reputation or stature would work under the hierarchies restraints anyway. It is that desperate that in the past Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned us down FFS.
  5. For those who haven't read the Collymore article the link is below. It is worth a read and may alter opinions of Sherwood and the task in hand..... http://www.myoldmansaid.com/stan-collymore-statement-home-truths-about-aston-villa/
  6. I am going to sit on the fence regarding Sherwood as I have said from the start of the season that he will need a certain amount of games to get to know his best team. I personally would like him to get that time and see where we are then but, I also don't see why the club are sticking with him if they gave him just two games to save his job. They might just as well sack him and get in someone new. I have a question for you though. If Swansea turn Villa over at the weekend, would you still see Sherwood as a better option than Monk? No hidden agenda behind my question, I am just wondering if a defeat would change your opinion. You make a very good point. Having watched Swansea's 1-0 loss to Stoke last night they looked as bad, if not worse than us against the same team. Monk inherited a team with a philosophy and in a better position overall whilst Sherwood walked into a side losing 2-0 away to Hull and looking certain for the drop. A lot depends on Saturdays performance and the result but my concern is that we would be in the same position down the line with Monk in charge and we are using the well worn cliche that the grass is not always greener whilst back at the start of the cycle. I suppose the truth be told if we were turned over the knives would well and truly be out but whilst gutted I'd take a back seat. For me it is becoming simple. The only two ways we can escape the monotony of the yearly relegation battle is either a new owner who is willing to put ample funds to build a competitive team (which isn't looking likely). Or option B to hire a manager with view of building and develop a team on a small budget which of course will take time. Lambert tried, with time but eventually failed. It is a dangerous game to be playing but it seems in the clubs current situation it is the only option and I think Sherwood in the long run is one of the better options and Monk would do no better.
  7. I agree with Stan. I fear I maybe a quiet minority reading this thread but I'd sooner have Sherwood than Monk, Rogers or Moyes. Monk has inherited a good side and is continuing a philosophy that was put in place dating back to Martinez. Who incidentally has turned us down a few times. Monks performances as of late isn't enough to be warranting a frenzy over his appointment. Rogers was outsmarted by 'Tactics Tim' in an FA Cup Semi Final and his ability to turn things around when the chips are down would concern me. Moyes is struggling in Spain. There is debate about his time at Man Utd and even Everton fans that have said they should of achieved more under his time. Not only this he was appointed in 2002. Things have changed since then. Sherwood got us out of a big mess last year. He has proven he can do it so I'd sooner back his corner. Much has been said about our net spend which was £8.25 million in the summer. This doesn't get you a decent keeper these days. Most teams would suffer losing Benteke, Delph and Cleverley let alone a team who scrapped past relegation. I think any of the names being branded around would only inherit the same problems and another 30 odd games down the line we would be here again. The heat has been turned up after the Chelsea game. A game that we should not of lost but a mistake by Guzan. Who I do believe Sherwood had earmarked as one of the first players to replace but funding wouldn't allow. I understand the frustrations! I haven't got my head in the sand, I see after watching them week after week we have been poor but I think a little more patience is needed. I really hope we can get a result Saturday and things turn around. For obvious reasons but also I'd like Sherwood to succeed as Villa manager.
  8. Watch the QPR 3-3 game again Watch the majority of Villa games over the years and other players may also be worthy of your condemnation.
  9. Really don't think Richardson is as bad as people are making out. I have got a bad feeling we might be at the receiving end of some referee howlers today. Still..... Show some fight and get in amongst them. Do us proud. Come on Villa. Tim Sherwoods claret and blue army.
  10. I think we should raise the second coming and appoint the ultimate miracle worker Jesus Christ. I fear he would eventually struggle with the Villa job and go into punditry though.
  11. The Villa job is a poisoned chalice. After the WBA game a pal of mine started looking at Lambert reign after too many grogs then the subsequent rose tinted spectacles. He was mentioning some good times we had and one example was Norwich away in the cup. I was quick to remind him about what happened the round after. It is easy to forgot how bad it was not too long ago and the length of time we had to endure it has rightfully took its toll on us fans. Anyway, point being I think Sherwood is far the better manager and better man for the job. He has assembled a good squad and it feels he has got the players on side. (Grealish celebration as an example.) We have to give him time as it is early days with his team and I do think we have the squad to at least be not be flirting with relegation. It isn't a massive ask!!!! My main concern is that Sherwood is starting to come across a little defeated talking about relegation so soon. The things we all found refreshing are fading and I want them back. Get your gilet and throw it when Milner scores. Just something! Also, he said 'we go again' after Leicester and I shuddered.
  12. "If we get out of this situation this season, we aren't going to be in it next year. Never. Because I will have the opportunity to build something and I won't let that happen again." 3rd March 2015. "We need to stay in the division and that is the goal for this season and IF we do we'll be stronger next year. But it is going to be a fight. We know that. I knew that from the start not in hindsight after seven games we've only won one and drawn one. But from the very, very start I knew this was going to be an uphill battle because of the young players we've acquired this season. 26th September 2015 It didn't take long until any optimism and hope has been woefully exhausted out of us. Watching Sherwood's after match comments has among other things got me pondering. Since Martin O'Neill every manager since has told us that we are in transition. It is one constant transitional cycle of doom. I do like Sherwood and for me he was a breath of fresh air when he came in. He was passionate and the team mostly played with drive and determination. I know there were some high profile horror shows but that was always going to be par for the course. Everything that endeared me to him and his teams is fading and he is slowly lowering our expectations in a Lambert-esque resignation of our inferiority. He remains planted on the bench with performances that are at best lacklustre. Post Lambert I enjoyed seeing a manager on the sidelines actually looking like he cared. I think Sherwood has been very wise in the transfer market with his budget. We lost the spine of our team and the replacements have been good. I'd sooner have Micah Richards than Ron Vlaar and Iddy Gana than Cleverley. If someone would of said Snake is off and but we are getting a wonderkid from Barcelona I would of took that alongside Veretout and others at our disposal. And of course there is Benteke. I think any team would struggle after losing Benteke however Rudy as a replacement is spot on. I am not for one minute saying he is a better player however Benteke was here to score goals and Sherwood has got someone who does that. Rudy has scored more goals than Benteke this season and it could be argued better in the air. I do think that there is a team there to compete however part me is actually starting to believe some kind of deep routed mentality issue with the club and if you put Sherwood in charge of this Villa team in a Southampton kit at St. Marys and they'd be performing (just an example). I like Sherwood, obviously I don't always agree with his decisions but he had my backing at the start and will continue to do so. When he was appointed in his first press conference he berated the fact that a massive club like Villa have been fighting relegation and it was a total breath of fresh air. So look again at the quotes above. He has walked in full of life and ambition which has been completely drained out of him. The one common theme is the club itself. The optimism has gone and we are once again walking a very well trodden claret and blue path that no manager can seem to get us off.
  13. Classic Villa. Capitulate F.C. The Ayew substitute was very strange. From day one he has struggled with the pace of the English game and looks like he needs time. So why throw him in at such a pivotal and high paced point in the game? If he knew Gil would have to be subbed due to fatigue/injury I can't help but think Joe Cole (not in the squad) would have been an ideal replacement with his experience on the ball to kill the game off a little. As previously mentioned Tim had it right to start and for a period we looked comfortable so to capitulate like that is scandalous. Hopefully lesson learnt. As hard as it might be lets try and get behind Tim and the team for the next few games because they will need it. As a little footnote because I hate to add to the concern. I thought we'd moved on from this old chestnut. [Tim Sherwood] On the upcoming games… "We have to go again. We have two big derbies coming up and we will make sure we are right for them."
  14. I think there's a difference moaning about his performance on a forum like this and fans targeting him on his personal Instagram account. I think that is the difference, people being criticial of his performance on here I think it is completely fair game. Calling for his head and commenting on his Instagram telling him he's shit and should leave the club, those people are pathetic. This exactly! Football is very subjective and everyone has varying opinions. I love hearing/reading opinions on here and after the game. I just despair when our own fans are contacting him directly giving him abuse. In what world do they think that will help the cause. I don't get the hatred towards the bloke. Delph, Alpay etc. I can understand animosity. I find Gabby so frustrating because for me when he is at his best the bloke is a nightmare for defenders but he doesn't do it enough which has been a problem throughout his career. But surely he has earned enough respect to not be abused by his own fans on Instagram regularly. Not a big ask really.
  15. I can honestly say I have never seen anything like Adama before. I am going to enjoy watching him even if it is for a few seasons. Hats off to Sherwood! It has come out today he turned down Bayern! Birmingham Mail: Adama Traore has revealed he rejected to Bayern Munich to join Villa. But the teenage wonderboy also admits that he intends to return to Barcelona eventually. Adama has taken next to no time to become a popular figure with the claret and blue faithful. He created Villa's goal with a rapid burst after coming on for a debut cameo in last weekend's Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace. And the 19-year-old opened his Villa scoring account during his first start and home bow against Notts County at Villa Park in midweek.
  16. I've got to be honest I find the whole thing quite embarrassing. The abuse he gets off Villa 'fans' on Instagram is unbelievable. Unsettling players with these kind of attacks does not help in any way and I don't see what they are trying to achieve. Everyone (me included) is quick to jump on the Delph loyalty campaign yet we have a player here who genuinely loves the football club and is victim to constant abuse. From an outsider looking in, it would look pathetic. This is a player who has won us games against our closest rivals! For that alone he should be given some respect. Not just Blues but WBA last season when we were on the brink of relegation and he dug in to get us a result. Of course there are better strikers but there are certainly a lot worse! And yes, I was the first moaning at half time at Palace. Leave it the concourse though and get behind the team. I do think he still has a lot to offer and I will be getting behind him in hope of seeing the finger on the lips celebration over the next coming months.
  17. This rant may be ridiculed and referred to as sour grapes. However let me start off by saying that neither team deserved to win the match tonight. Both were distinctly average and a 0-0 would of been a fair result. Or even maybe 1-1. Once again detrimental officiating in the favor of a '(being kind) top 4' team has cost us a penalty. Not only that when did the rules allow a player to kick the ball away without being booked? It was a common occurrence that was not once punished. Further more, when I sit in the VILLA end I do not want a group of 6 opposition fans in front of me. This seems to be a problem only with one club. They are arrogant, smug and do not deserve the privilege. Of course, when you mention that they are inferior to Man City said supporters unashamedly arrogantly laugh it off.... which frankly is a conversation that should not be had in the home end. Same old story.
  18. Totally agree. We had a new yellow kit too which doesn't help the comparisons! I've been trying to forget that to get on with some misplaced optimism. 3-1 Villa. Sinclair, Kozak and Gueye.
  19. I feel for him. Pre-season is a tough time to get injured and it will be mentally and physically difficult to get up to speed with the rest of the squad now. Actually I've changed my mind..... "My [above quote] was purely based on the emotion and feelings that I hold for [hamstrings] and the people ..... that I ..... [see] .. walking ....- rather than looking at the [gloating] opportunity that had been placed in front of me" Haha. Karma strikes. Use your time off to look up loyalty in the dictionary. Snake.
  20. Even though I knew it was going to happen, it is still tough to take. Fond memories. On a positive note at least we have some funds to strengthen and Ricky Lambert isn't coming the other way. Should've aimed higher.
  21. I think people are being a bit harsh on Judas. He weren't that bad in comparison. Delph is an absolute disgrace! Same old story. International duty is the kiss of death! Reading his statement is nauseating and as for Micah he isn't exactly endearing himself to us is he the bell.
  22. Gutted, angry, disappointed and maybe in denial! Something doesn't sit right with this whole saga though. It doesn't make sense that he isn't in Portugal. We all know about his wife but as a professional footballer I don't think that is a substantial enough reason to miss allegedly the most important training regime of the season. Plus he could of always just flew back. Either he is an absolute turn coat or there might be something more sinister. Maybe reading between the lines but does anyone thing Lerner might have something to do with this. With speculation of Man City interest and not travelling to Portugal we signed Gueye as his replacement yet Delph stated he did not want to go. Could Lerner have pushed the issue having purchased his replacement? If this is the case Sherwood won't be best pleased and could be reminiscent of O'Neill and the Milner scenario. Either way this is a dark time to be a Villa fan and we have been treated terribly.
  23. Amazing! Delph you are a hero. There is loyalty in football after all. We were led to believe it was a done deal! The arrogant media were thinking why would anyone turn down Man City to stay at Villa. I was absolutely gutted but this has restored my faith in football, Villa and humanity! Praise the Paul McGrath.
  24. We are a team that has been in consecutive relegation battle yet top clubs want our players. Something doesn't equate. I walked away from the final angry because I did not appreciate the effort from the players. Truth is Delph and others were most likely thinking they'll be back next year with another club. For what it is worth I think he is a top player albeit one who has been happy to use us through tough times in his career. Football is a disgrace, Villa is in my blood and it will never change but sometimes I wonder what is the point of supporting anything outside of the top 4. As for the long list of lies he fed us in January there isn't much left to be said. He is not bothered. He will be sorted for life and will not give a second thought to us fans or this football club. I would like to retract some of this. I have made a huge mistake. He is bothered! Up the Villa!!!!!
  25. Welcome Ray! Delighted. I've wanted this to happen for a while. Wilkins is an likeable and insightful chap. The players have got a massive opportunity to work under some top staff at the moment. This alongside amazing facilities, top support etc. they haven't got many more excuses. By the way, can anyone find the footage when he swears at a ball boy whilst playing for England? Funny.
