So, if that's the case, then the club should make it common knowledge that they have done all they can to persuade him to stay, but he doesn't want to sign. It's been pretty depressing as a supporter for some time now, the club could go some way to show they are not in the wrong, at least the fans wouldn't blame the club then.

The fact that the club has allowed this situation to develop is absolutely friggin criminal. They should have tied him to a new contract anytime after last christmas. The same goes for Delph. He has said the club have not offered him a contract yet, so what the friggin hell is going on? We should have looked to sign both up, EVEN if we intend to sell. At least AVFC would have been in the driving seat then, not the bloody players and their agents. He problem is the club is owned by muppets and managed by muppets.

He really isn't - our owner is and has been the biggest problem. Lambert, is not perfect I agree but there are bigger issues at our floundering club and they lie at the feet of our current 'custodian'. I disagree. Whilst Lerner is a major, major problem, at least he's trying to do what most of us want him to...sell the club. I'f there are no takers, that ain't his fault. Lambert is a difficult kettle of fish. It's his team, his squad, his tactics, his approach. He has shown nothing in the last 18 months to show there is ANY improvement in the direction we are headed.

The manager is by far and away our biggest problem. My optimism today? 3/10

With the position we're in now that would do far more harm than good. I can't believe anyone would actually want that. If he was going to leave it had to be at the end of last season. For me, he cannot go soon enough. He should already be a dark a distant memory. He is now toxic, poison. He has no credit in the bank and if we get off to a slow start there is no doubt the crowd will turn, the pressure will build and we will be deep in the shit before christmas, If villa fans are booing at a friendly (today) then there is already no hope for him. Get rid ASAP, at the very worst, Keane and Sid could run things, and lets face it, they could not be worse that the clearing in the woods running the show today.

This is going to be a Martin Laursen scenario all over again. Everytime Okore gets injured or goes down holding a knee, we will expect the worse.

I really don't think we should be too quick in thinking loosing Vlaar wouldn't be too much of a problem. I'd rather have him in our team than any spurs reserve or reject.

On the subject of N'zogbia, how many of the 'bomb squad' will really play their bollocks off for Lambert ? In answer to the original question, at the start of every season we believe that we have a decent squad. The last 3 years have proved that we don't, regardless of the few additions every summer. Remember last year, when we did all our business in the first couple of weeks of the transfer window and how we suggested that we could really push on in the coming season ? At the end of the day, our 'best' team is just about ok, but our squad is woefully short.
