  1. Dan Carlin's account of Russian atrocities in East Prussia in his 'Ghosts of the Ostfront' series is chilling.
  2. Bit lowbrow for this thread. I liked it but I stopped listening to it after a couple weeks. I liked it, too. I know Kasabian get a lot of stick in the U.K., but I feel like catchy tune after catchy tune makes up for their being utter clearings in the woods.
  3. This is driving me nuts. Being a Villa supporter in the transfer window is like bringing a couple of your lousy toys to play at your spoiled friend's house as a kid: he's got a ton of toys he's not using and they're all better than what you've got, but he won't let you use any of them because he might need them later. If by chance you have anything he wants, however, he'll take it and give you Stephen Ireland his crappiest toy in return. I think we're just going to have to get used to playing with our Gobot and our Matchbox car with a dodgy wheel.
  4. I agree. It's not 1993. You don't need a rap in the middle of every song anymore. The track is really slick, though. I felt the same way about this track a couple years ago. The album version doesn't have the rap (or the grunting), which is a big plus.
  5. Dammit. I promised myself I wouldn't cry.
  6. I wondered about that, too. Anybody got 20,000 friends with trashcan lids and spears? And a field?
  7. And along that same train of thought (I was an undergraduate history major), I always thought it would have been smart to incorporate left handedness into infantry formations in the ancient world. The Greek phalanx was famous for drifting right (...right?), as each man would seek the protection of the shield of the man next to him in battle, and it often influenced the course of battle—not to mention that battle lines were often drawn along natural boundaries (rivers, mountains, woods, etc.) to prevent an entire flank from being exposed to the enemy. Now, wouldn't an obvious solution to that problem have not been putting a couple columns of left-handed infantry soldiers on the right flank of the formation? Voilà! No exposed flanks, and less drifting. So, instead of like this: Like this: ////////////////////////// ///////////////////////\\\ ////////////////////////// ///////////////////////\\\ ////////////////////////// ///////////////////////\\\ ////////////////////////// ///////////////////////\\\ ////////////////////////// ///////////////////////\\\ ////////////////////////// ///////////////////////\\\ This is probably why I don't have a girlfriend.
  8. Okay, I've actually wondered about this for quite some time, and haven't been able to find a satisfying answer. As a left hander, I've always wondered when different places around the world stopped "correcting" for left handedness. And then I'm curious about its implications in the military. That is, what came first: did it start being okay to shoot (or stab) left as a result of a societal acceptance of people being left handed, or was it just an issue of people starting to shoot (or stab) left because tactics or technology allowed it? The Princess Bride is not a valid source for reference.
  9. We are allowed to have players with hair, you know.
  10. We've got a point on Leicester and Burnley. Our goal differential won't be doing us any favors at all this season.
  11. So Palace's win drops us down another spot to 17th. Just brilliant. And you know what? I'm still happy to see Palace win. They deserve it.
  12. I'm finally just now coming around to discovering Kate Bush that I don't totally hate. I thought she was all "Wuthering Heights" and "Babooshka", which have always just struck me as novelty songs.
  13. The instrument tones on this album are nonstop. I love a live drum sound. Overtones!
  14. I can go either way when it comes to bluesy throwback rock & roll, but these guys are legit. The singer is a fox, too.
  15. I checked out the one track I was able to find on YouTube, "Cat Calls". I enjoyed it! I could see myself going either way with it at first, but the song built quite nicely and I really dug the abrasive musicality of the instrument tones across the board. I liked the bridge. I'll keep my eye out for the album!
