  1. If you'd included Train in your list, I'd probably have proposed to you on the spot.
  2. When was the last time you listened to an album just because of the cover?
  3. I feel like my list is too modern, but that brand of happy-go-lucky "everything is going to be alright" posi-pop that seems to be ruling the airwaves recently actually offends me. I mean, I hate the Eagles as much as the next guy, but I think I can listen to "Hotel California" without feeling my blood pressure rise, at least sparingly. But the posi-pop makes me want to strangle puppies. And I love puppies! Daniel Powter - Bad Day Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling James Blunt - Beautiful Michael Bublé - Haven't Met You Yet Oh, and I can't effing stand "Tempted" by Squeeze. There's an older song for you. It's like the musical equivalent of lukewarm tapioca pudding. Oh, and anything by Train! And the Counting Crows. Their entire back catalogue.
  4. I think I dig it. It's not going to set the world alight and it seems like a bit of a slow burn, but there are definitely a few tracks that will grow on me.
  5. I got quite excited when I found that earlier, then I listened to it and thought it really wasn't a patch on anything off Gilded Eternity, I shall however listen to it a few more times before I dismiss it completely I quite like it, actually. Maybe it comes from not having expectations (I didn't know Loop were working on new material), but I'm looking forward to more.
  6. MG is Martin Gore from Depeche Mode, by the way.
  7. Lightning Bolt were the headliners last night and I thought Metz actually outplayed them. Maybe they've improved significantly?
  8. Went to see Metz and Lightning Bolt in my first show since moving back to the States two months ago. It may just be concert shock, but I'm pretty sure it was one of the loudest shows I've ever seen [other notable loud bands: Mogwai, Mono (Japan), Boris]. Metz will be touring later on this summer with Viet Cong and I'd make the trip to see them again.
  9. Apparently, this exists. So I suppose I kind of have to listen to it now, don't I?
  10. From Shay Given's Twitter page. My parents had a couch that looked exactly like this in the '80s.
  11. I will not be able to contribute to this thread in any meaningful way as I cannot remember any of the players I've completely forgotten about.
  12. thanks for the reminder - dug that back out and also rediscovered Hope of the States - The Lost Riots! What a massive opening track on that album! I never really connected with any of their subsequent albums, though.
  13. How'd you get into J-pop, if I can call it that? I find this particular song insipid, but I can certainly see the appeal. I love it myself and am looking forward to hearing the flip side. I don't know if it qualifies as 'J-pop', it just sounds like pop music that happens to be Japanese to me. Apart from Perfume and some of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's stuff I'm not really into any other Japanese pop music as it stands I genuinely can't remember how I first got into them, might have been someone posting one of their song on here. I don't know the first thing about J-pop or K-pop, but I once watched a lousy movie about a K-pop band that discovered a VHS tape containing a song that happened to be cursed, and every time they performed the song something would go terribly wrong. Again, a lousy movie, but I had the song stuck in my head for a week.
  14. I haven't been able to get into it the way I have some of their prior albums, but I may come around to it. Their last two albums just don't seem to have the urgency of their first two albums and the 'Onwards To The Wall' EP, which was amazing. If you dig A Place To Bury Strangers, you may enjoy the Soft Moon.
  15. I heard this track a few months back and thought to myself, they're like a 21st century Letters To Cleo. And I'm strangely okay with that.
