The Randy Lerner thread

The fact you have to say IF we are in the premier league shows the shocking job he's done.

Not really. The state of the Premier League nowadays means that anyone from 9 downwards can get sucked into the relegation fight. It really is a lottery as to who will go down.

Had Ellis stayed, we would have gone down 5 years ago.

Ellis was an elderly man in his last days at the club and was looking to sell the club. If it was ten years earlier he would have acted long before now and sacked Lambert and given the new manager significant monies to invest. Meanwhile our esteemed chairman sits on his hands and watches Villa stumble from one humiliation after another.

Rubbish the worst teams go down.

It should not be a difficult task to keep a club with an income higher than the majority of teams in the league. How can you defend him when you even admit you're unsure if we can stay in the league?

You are correct, 'it should not be a difficult task', but that is something that you should be taking up with the team manager, not the owner.

The investment budget was there. It was the team manager who decided how it should be spent.

So Ron Atkinson having to walk on the pitch with a microphone to calm the supporters was evidence of 'significant monies' from Ellis?

Ellis never put a penny into the club or anywhere else, at least until Randy Lerner gave him a huge profit on his shares, giving him the wherewithal to buy a knighthood.

Must just be a coincidence then that we've struggled now under the last 3 managers.

Houllier didn't have enough time, although with lazy players finished ok. McLeish, no comment. Lambert had 1 season to sort the shite, second season and 40 million spent should be showing signs of improvement not going backwards. The likes of Zola would love 40 million to spend and im sorry but in sure even he could do better.

Holding on for a draw at home to Swansea, can't pass the ball and yet another overall shocking performance. Collymore on talksport talking about how this club needs an owner willing to invest premiership money into the club. Glad someone in the media is picking up on the real problem at the club

Funny because we finished mid table with the team from his last season, with the added addition of Petrov.

Needs to back his man. Not sure how he expects fans to if he doesn't. I rate lambert and we should stick with him but he needs cash to help him in his plan

Agree.

Give him the money for at least two of the three players we need. If Lerner does this I will praise him.

Dodgy Knees-Don't forget MON bought in Young & Carew in the January as well.

Lerner will not back his man, he is not willing to spend any of his own money.

Why come in with a fanfare blazing shouting from the rooftops that he'll back his manager?

Nothing has changed apart from the fact that Lerner now realises he won't make a penny out of his investment.

The whole club stinks from top to bottom. The chairman is setting the bar low in what he expects from the manager and is giving him tools, in terms of a wage budget, that ensures we will be no better than lower table fodder.

As for him giving funds in January I doubt very much he will. Even if he does give say 15 mill in fees and 80k+ in wages I am unsure if the manager would go out and buy the proven quality needed in two players or look to bring in another 3 or 4 of the young, hungry and totally unproven at this level/in this league mould.

Lerner is one lucky owner. He is lucky we are still a Premier League club given the way he has run the club and he is blessed that despite the tripe being served up we can still get 37k against Palace and Swansea in the space of 2 days. Fair play to the fans and I include myself in that. This great clubs deserves the level of support but the owner most certainly doesn't.

And if Lambert gets the right backing in Jan, we will see the same results.

Since Martin O Neil went, Lerner has lost his love in villa. please sell up and for good we have no faith in you.

If O'neil spent the money more wisely instead of buying shite i.e Beye etc we would probably be in a better position. But obviously this is a argument for another thread/time!
