7 players inactive due to injury. Browns missing two of their top 3 receivers and Cribbs barely active after a huge hit last week. Rain in New Jersey. Yeah its going to be a scrappy one!

Bradshaw fumbles (with an assist from Snee) on the opening play for the Giants.

Will probably watch Browns @ Giants, Broncos @ Patriots this afternoon.

And two plays later, Richardson capitalizes.

Untouched into the endzone...

Back in the 50s and 60s, Giants/Browns was arguably the biggest rivalry in the NFL. They dominated the Eastern Conference:

NFL American (1950-52)/Eastern Conference (1953-66)

Cardinals

Browns

Giants

Eagles

Steelers

Redskins

Cowboys (from 1961)

Falcons (1966)

1950-55: Browns

1956: Giants

1957: Browns

1958-59: Giants

1960: Eagles

1961-63: Giants

1964-65: Browns

1966: Cowboys

Cardinals and Steelers were shit for the whole period, and the Eagles and Redskins had their moments.

For '67 through '69, the (still pre-merger) NFL split into four divisions (Capitol, Century, Central, Coastal). For two ('67 and '69) of those seasons, the Giants and Browns were both in the Century division (with Steelers and Cardinals) ('68 saw the Saints and Giants swap divisions, with the Giants in the Capitol Division with the Cowboys, Redskins, and Eagles). Then the NFL-AFL merger required three NFL teams to join the AFL teams in the AFC: the Colts readily volunteered, and then Pete Rozelle convinced Art Modell to switch; Art agreed on the condition that the Steelers came with him and that the league would schedule an annual preseason game with the Giants to keep the rivalry going.
