It adds nothing to the game. Mike Mayock on Thursday Night Football is pretty good for analysis, he's annoying sometimes but he seems passionate and tries to do a good job. leviramsey Posted December 21, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 21, 2013 The Seahawks basically punt short a lot, because the offense is good enough to get to around midfield on most drives, so the punts tend to be shorter. On top of this, the Seahawks appear to have decided that they're willing to spot the returner about 5 yards on the gross from a long hang time, in order to prevent the high variance from a punt return. With a defense as good as the Seahawks have, the extra 5 yards to start with, doesn't help much, but there's not much the defense can do against a long punt return.
