Folski
Ashley showed he is getting back to his best tonight, best I've seen from him in some time. The break has done them well. Stewart is really starting to gel with Ash and Jim. Still have no idea what Heskey brings to the team bar missing two absolute sitters.

mattyburge
my observations: Im sorry but cuellar was f**king putrid tonight, turned it over every time he got the ball, blackburn look like giant cans of redbull, apparently you get booked for getting tripped in the box but not for elbowing redheads in the face. would have been nice to get a 2nd goal but will take a one goal lead!!!! rjshare
talk about a game of two halves! we played excellently in the first half and should have (how many times do we say this?) put it out of sight. second half blackburn got their act together a bit but we were dire! all the urgency disappeared and it was like they suddenly decided it was a pre season friendly. plus points: milner with another all action display first half - shows just how well we CAN play ash - some of the time clean sheet and an away goal minus points: blackburn are still in the tie going into the second leg gabby running sidewards all of the time - look at our goal, where is he going???? cuellar putting his boots on the wrong feet and finding touch with every forward pass he made guzan - might be great at stopping pens but apart from one save which didnt count anyway he never looked like getting close to the ball and finally: our support - fantastic stuff guys, the night belonged to you! sled
I agree with those who say Young, Milner & Dunne had particularly good games. Young was a real thorn in Blackburn's side all evening - best he's played for some time.

The_Steve
Really excellent display at times tonight, some great passing between midfield. The referee was awful, got all the big decisions wrong. Really glad we kept a clean sheet tonight, Blackburn will find it tough at Villa Park. Downing, Milner and Young were excellent, but Richard Dunne was nothing short of fantastic, great leader and solid as per usual.

CastleBromVilla
First half we played well, but the second was shit, negative change by O'Neill aswell. The ball was coming straight back to us everytime we cleared it, Heskey wasn't picking it up, he should have made a straight swap, Carew for Heskey, fresh legs. Instead he brings on Sidwell? If you're going to bring on a midfielder aswell, it should have been Reo-Coker. He made things diffcult for us with that change, we could have won that tie by more, Rovers were shit. Folski
Petrov had a great game as well. That great squaring to Heskey where the donkey miss controlled! Some epic passes also

The_Steve
Gabby Agbonlahor on his first-half penalty shout: "I spoke to the referee at half-time and he thought it was a dive. You've seen it on the camera - and it's a penalty. But maybe next time I'll get one I don't deserve."

jonno_2004
Job done. Fantastic away support Guzan - 6 - there's no point in saving loads of penalties if you can't do the basics properly, think the pressure affected him. Cuellar - 7 - Decent showing. Did his job at RB to match the height of Blackburn Collins - 6 - Did what needed to be done. Not the committed performance of usual. Dunne - 8 - Fantastic showing, can tell he wants his medal. Warnock - 7 - Good Downing - 8 - Great counter attacking Milner - 8 - Great all round play, took his goal well Petrov - 7 - Dictated well from the middle Young - 8 - Looked like the Young of old, looking to beat his man and unlucky not to score Gabby - 8 - Good running in the channels, unlucky to be booked, good header and some decent touches Heskey - 7 - Link up play was good, could have done better with Petrov through ball Sidwell - 6 - nothing really of note, did what he had to do

Regards, Matty Burge (representing villa Adelaide style) Agree. Cuellar's distribution was awful, like having Mellberg back at right-back. Can't understand why Young was bench, unless it was injury. His form doesn't warrant being dropped. Cuellar is shit at right-back, it should be centre half or bench for him after tonights disply!
tommo
Guzan 6- a bit shaky early on. Cuellar 7- good. Dunne 8.5*- didn't put a foot wrong. Collins 6.5- not convincing early on but was decent. Warnock 7- good. Young 7- a little wasteful but was always dangerous tonight Milner 8- everywhere and was the best attacking force on the pitch. Petrov 6- ok in the first half but stood off in the second. Downing 6.5- good at times and good work for the goal. Heskey 6.5- held the ball up well. Wasn't exactly a fox in the box. Gabby 5.5- generally hopeless, but improved when we went 451. Sidwell 6. A good tactical substitution from MON. Could have gone either way in the second half, but we deserved the win. lmarsha_926
The only problem is the away does not count as if Blackburn win 1-0 and it stays like that after extra time then it is penalties. If Blackburn win 2-1 and that is the result after extra time then we are out. If Blackburn win then we cant go through unless it goes to penalties. It only means a draw and we are through. sled
One thing Blackburn were particularly shit at was moving the ball out of defence - time and again they gave the ball away. Which was nice.
