Feels like a hail Mary, non of the guys they wanted were interested for various reasons so they went with Mellberg. Massive gamble but probably a cheap gamble.

Latest rumour is that Mellberg turned down the job. Swedish FA really is in a joke state where no one wants the job as national manager

Jon Dahl Tomasson named as new national side manager. Our first foreign one. I wanted a different Dane but this will do. On less upbeat news this doesn't sound great.

ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT KRISTOFFER OLSSON

The 28-year-old Swedish national team player lost consciousness at his home on Tuesday 20 February and was transferred to Aarhus University Hospital, where he is hospitalized and on a ventilator.

Kristoffer Olsson is affected by an apparently acute disease related to the brain, which is not due to self-harm of any kind, nor is the cause due to external factors.

A team of Denmark's leading medical experts is currently working at high pressure to make a diagnosis and initiate the right treatment.

Since admission, Kristoffer has been surrounded by his immediate family and parts of FC Midtjylland's staff, and is being treated by specialists in the field.

We should fire that Dane immediately. Was always a stupid appointment anyway

Makes you feel better Ireland has been linked with Janne Andersson so he cant return 😝

Picking Olsen was the final straw

Would be great if we could skirt the rules and get Filip Jørgensen to play for us instead of Denmark. They can have Robin Olsen back instead.

Sounds like he has no interest to play for Sweden as should still be eligible

He should but apparently he can't due to some rule. Thought he should be due to not playing for the senior side but since he made an active choice to go from the Swedish U-21 to the Danish one he's supposedly effed.

Swedish FA are trying thou.

Call me old-fashioned but I think we (and Ireland) are a big enough football nations to appoint a Swedish manager. A manager from another nation I understand for smaller nations or developing football nations.

And I rarely follow our national team anyway. Didn't even know he picked Olsen. :P

Seen some awful performances in the last couple years in the Swedish national side but the 60 minutes today that Samuel Gustafsson delivered against Albania was something else. I don't think he managed to do a single thing right. Might be OK for him to stay in Japan and save him the travel for the next internationals.

New season and same old with the big clubs ultras using bangers and pyros as a tactic to get the game temporarily abandoned when their teams need the momentum shifted. I actually like pyros but the league needs to crack down hard on teams who's fans use it as a tactic. Difficult/impossible thou.

Nah, it was Hammarby

Trying to imitate AIK who's been doing this routinely for a decade at least. It worked today too.

I remember, early 2000s I think, the police actually using fire-extinguishers to chill the muppets at the front of Norra. It worked :D
