  1. On the way to work this morning listening to The AAA podcast they said that some research had been done to tablet use in the USA and last year Android use was 15% of the tablet market. This year it is 48% with Apple down to just 52%, a lot of this was down to the succes of the Kindle Fire which had taken 25% market share. However this research was done before the release of the Nexus 7 which might just swing it over in favour of Android being the biggest user base in the Tablet Market. No wonder Apple is worried........
  2. Some rumours this morning of a November launch for an LG Nexus but also that the Nexus name will not be limited to one manufacturer. Certain levels of hardware will have to be met to use the Nexus brand but more worrying will be that a certain level of UI customisation will be allowed, all be it using some new system which I assume will not affect the underlying OS.

    unblock us

Well if you are a Netflix subscriber already then you are being shafted over content you get. There is much better on content available on there in different quantitites. You can also watch video content on the Hulu site for free. $4.99 a month is less than £4.00

    unblock us

Signed up for a 7 day trial for unblock us. Content on US Netflix is miles better than the UK version. You can change where you want to appear so can check out Netflix from other countries too. Brazil has some good film content......
  5. I have seen zero rumours. Some people are thinking that Google might move the launch of new phone to early next year to tie in with the version of Android.
  6. I cannot believe how much I use the nexus 7. I dont think I have put my Tab 10.1 on in the last 10 days.

    unblock us

Anyone had any experience of using unblock us or unotelly. They offer a VPN which gives you a USA based ip address. The benefit of this is you can watch Hulu online and if you have a netflix account you will be able to watch the expanded US content rather than the rather limited UK offering.

    Maths Detention

An old mate of mine was a teacher and he met his first wife when he was her teacher, there was about a 20 year age gap. They eventually split up. He then turned up with his new girl friend who was also one of his pupils. She was 17 and by this time he was nearly 50. He was really puzzled as to why the school was upset by it all. Havent seen him for over 10 years so not sure how that turned out.
  9. Button has proved he can win the title and it will be interesting to see how Perez does in a more competitive car.
  10. So Hamilton is of to Mercedes (EJ was right then). Perez has signed as his replacement.
  11. Swift key now only 69p in the play store. Tablet version is £2.99 though
  12. Yep if you have the time these can be a fantastic sauce of entertainment.
  13. Just out of interest why would anyone need to defend Apple. They make expensive phones that work. Do people have to defend Porsche or Bentley? It used to be a huge pain in the ass when I was an iphone owner coming on to here to find pages of comments extolling the virtues of Android and knocking Apple. There are some Villa fans who are quite happy with their Iphone and might even be happy to upgrade to the latest version. Surely if they are interested in Android I am sure they will be able to make their way to the other thread. Lets leave this thread for iphone owners to discuss their phone of choice in peace.
  14. Pretty much as above, get the Nexus 7 and if you can get one quick you can get the £15.00 credit for the playstore which runs out at the end of the month I think. Its pretty much guaranteed to get the OS updates for the next 2 years. I bought my daughter one of the cheap tablets. She is only 7 but managed to crack the screen playing a game on it. Every time you re-set it you had to change the language from Chinese and it always installed a lot of crap on there that you couldnt remove so had to hide instead. Nexus 7 all the way.
  15. I ll do it for £9m if you throw in the Pussycat Doll too.
  16. If I had the money its the one GP id love to go to as the setting looks stunning. Street circuits are crap for overtaking so its all about the pitting strategy which went out the window the moment the race car come out as everyone dived and changed tyres.

Where do bootlegs fit in to the piracy debate
  18. Apple have some big decisions to make. The iPhone used to be the best phone you could get. The 4 was probably the best phone they made, trouble is they have stalled. They have to change their user interface, it simply cannot stay as a screens full of icons, they are being left behind by Android and Windows. The maps fiasco will see how much Apple values their users. Let Google get their maps app out to help the iPhone users while they sort out their own version and a lot of users might forgive and forget. Make them soldier on with the useless version in IOS6 and they will burn a lot of bridges.
  19. Someone's been listening to their podcasts..............

The major studios are working something called Ultraviolet which means when you buy a DVD or Blu-ray you get a digital copy which is stored in the cloud for you. I dread to think how much money I have spent on VHS Tapes, I dont even own a video recorder these days and I certainly havent got a copy of them in a form I can play now. I wonder if Sony thinks the money well spent that was used to win the HD-DVD / Blu-ray war because it definitely looks like legal streaming / downloads are the way forward. How many of the youth today go to a store and buy a CD, it all downloaded from Itunes or Amazon.
  21. Just been and checked the maps app on someones Iphone 4. I dont think Steve Jobs would have signed off on this. Conor, Google have submitted a maps application for IOS and are not expecting Apple to rush it through. Now if they care about their users they should get it out pronto while they try to fix what can only be described as something which in most peoples eyes isnt even good enough for a beta version. Google will want it out so they can re-inforce with Apple users what is good about google and by association android.
  22. I used to love Windows Mobile going way back to the Orange SPV C500, then the Orange M500 finishing on the HTC Touch. In typical microsoft fashion they didnt really develop the OS back then and it cost them because by the time they had got their act together Apple had stolen a lot of their market, Android then came in and stole even more and some back from Apple. I hope they get it right and learn the lessons from the Mobile & Zune fiascos because if they do they could steal back some market share from the disillusioned Apple customers.
  23. Yep I got that. If the rumour of several manufacturers all bringing out Nexus devices then that handset for LG could be the pick of the bunch.
  24. All About Android is quite good to pass the time when in the car. The one that got me into podcasts was AndroidGuys and it was the one straight after the Google IO conference and it was really good. They then didnt do another until about 10 days ago and because there was only one guy in the studio and the other guests skyped in the audio was dreadful. I dont think they have done one since so they might get deleted of the list if they arent careful. I used to use Google Listen for podcasts and I thought it did it quite well but Google have decided that there are better options out there and so are shutting it down. Well if I had a choice of using Google Listen or Google Reader I would choose the former every day. Google Reader is just awful.
  25. The new LG looks like it might set the bar higher than it is at the moment. That Handset running pure Android could be a really challenger to Samsung.
