The major studios are working something called Ultraviolet which means when you buy a DVD or Blu-ray you get a digital copy which is stored in the cloud for you. I dread to think how much money I have spent on VHS Tapes, I dont even own a video recorder these days and I certainly havent got a copy of them in a form I can play now. I wonder if Sony thinks the money well spent that was used to win the HD-DVD / Blu-ray war because it definitely looks like legal streaming / downloads are the way forward. How many of the youth today go to a store and buy a CD, it all downloaded from Itunes or Amazon.

Just been and checked the maps app on someones Iphone 4. I dont think Steve Jobs would have signed off on this. Conor, Google have submitted a maps application for IOS and are not expecting Apple to rush it through. Now if they care about their users they should get it out pronto while they try to fix what can only be described as something which in most peoples eyes isnt even good enough for a beta version. Google will want it out so they can re-inforce with Apple users what is good about google and by association android.

I used to love Windows Mobile going way back to the Orange SPV C500, then the Orange M500 finishing on the HTC Touch. In typical microsoft fashion they didnt really develop the OS back then and it cost them because by the time they had got their act together Apple had stolen a lot of their market, Android then came in and stole even more and some back from Apple. I hope they get it right and learn the lessons from the Mobile & Zune fiascos because if they do they could steal back some market share from the disillusioned Apple customers.

Yep I got that. If the rumour of several manufacturers all bringing out Nexus devices then that handset for LG could be the pick of the bunch.

All About Android is quite good to pass the time when in the car. The one that got me into podcasts was AndroidGuys and it was the one straight after the Google IO conference and it was really good. They then didnt do another until about 10 days ago and because there was only one guy in the studio and the other guests skyped in the audio was dreadful. I dont think they have done one since so they might get deleted of the list if they arent careful. I used to use Google Listen for podcasts and I thought it did it quite well but Google have decided that there are better options out there and so are shutting it down. Well if I had a choice of using Google Listen or Google Reader I would choose the former every day. Google Reader is just awful.

The new LG looks like it might set the bar higher than it is at the moment. That Handset running pure Android could be a really challenger to Samsung.

The app sales on apple an android was discussed on one of the podcasts I was listening to. The percentage of apple users who have more than 10 paid for apps on their device had dropped from 40 to 25%, while on android it had gone up over 20%.

After seeing how long it takes Samsung to get software updates out for their handsets it will take a very special phone to get me to go there again. Nexus handsets are the way to go. Interesting to see your opinion on the Nexus after a few days Conor

Ker-ikey, that's a bit of a change! How are you finding the Nexus 7 against the iPad? Well the ipad went to be replaced by an Asus Transformer which was replaced by a 10.1 Samsung Tab and The Nexus 7 had about 20 mins last night to set up. The one thing which I havent tried yet but assume will work is if I buy an app on my 10.1 Tab and it is compatible with the Nexus 7 will it download for free.

You are right Conor, everything else in the house is apple. I need to make a decision quick but i'm like a pendulum at the moment and when I think I have decided someone comes along and makes me start thinking about the other. It is doing my head in! In my house we used to have 3 Ipod Touches, 2 Iphone 4 & an Ipad. They have all pretty much been replaced by Android equivalents and its great because if someone brings out a handset or tablet that runs android I can buy one and not have to worry about my apps etc that I have bought being lost.

Nexus 7 arrived yesterday. Very nice, very portable. I can see why you would take this and leave your 10.1 Tab at home. Will be looking at adding some useful apps tonight.

On Android the choice of manufacturers is quite large, if you want an Iphone you go to Apple so who are Apple competing with.

Of course it will sell shed loads. If they stick to minor upgrades every other year then the Iphone 6 will need to be a massive leap or be left way behind.

Just read an article on the BBC website about the iphone and apple, and in it the author states that Apple spend only 2% of their revenues on R&D. Google and Microsoft spend 14%. Steve Jobs I suspect would not be happy at the leaks and not be happy with the new phone.

Not great is it. What will be very interesting is if the big players all bring out top specced nexus handsets, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony & HTC. You would then at least have a choice of skinned or vanilla from your favoured manufacturer. I do wonder why they bother skinning them now.

The reason I ditched my Iphone 4 for Android was that I had got bored of the interface and the way it works. I just wonder how much longer Apple can go on tweaking the iOS with making a major change to compete with Android & Windows because if someone gave you an Iphone 3 and a new iphone 5 the GUI is primarily the same 5+years on.

Are you sure its just a few months though.....

There are lots of stuff on the Note which is built in to Touchwiz. The Note just wouldnt work as a pure Android device.
