  1. Watched Four Lions again last night on channel 4, every time it gets better and better. You cannot stop laughing.
  2. I cannot remember having wait this long after Nexus devices being announced for any of the carriers to say that they will be having them. Now I know that officially that they arent available for pre-order until October 29th but absolutely nothing has been released by any of the big 4 or Carphonewarehouse which I do find really strange.
  3. A recent report stated that Apple users spent on average $4 to every $1 spent on Android. Now playing devils advocate you could say if Android users had the same catalogue of apps would their average spend be any higher?
  4. I need to replace my ageing Nexus 7 and had thought the Nexus 9 would be the perfect replacement, but the lack of any retailers in the UK even saying they will stock them at some point has but doubt in my mind. I dont mind the 4:3 ratio I think for what you use it for Apple was right, however how are the apps going to rescale to that form factor, how many have been coded properly in the first place to automatically adjust - or am I going to have a tablet that unless you are on the web is going to look pretty horrible for at least a couple of months. Then you start looking at the apps available for other platforms and to be honest that market is far more mature. Just look at what you can get on the ipad if you a sky user and then look at the offering they serve up for android users - its night and day. With the cut in prices for refurb ipads that Apple currently have its not so clear cut. You would hope that withintroduction of Lollipop that Android on Tablets would be taken a little more seriously by developers but time will tell.
  5. Anybody heard if any bricks & mortar stores in UK are going to be stocking the Nexus 9. Its nearly a week since the announcement and not a word from Carphonewarehouse, Currys or PCworld.
  6. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves was on one of the main channels last night. A truly awful film but I watch it just to see Alan Rickman complete steal the film.
  7. Official case with keyboard is £99 and the origami case £36 I think it will be an eBay knock off at those prices.
  8. LTE Version £459.00 - £40 cheaper than the Ipad Mini LTE
  9. Now on Amazon UK 16gb £319.00 32gb £399.00
  10. Nexus 9 up on Amazon for pre-order 16gb at approx £318.00 & 32gb @ £389.00 at today's exchange rates
  11. Nexus 6 does have wireless charging according to Android Central
  12. Cannot see any mention of wireless charging which is a huge miss for me.
  13. Lollipop announced with Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Player
  14. The Nest thermostat is boringly simple and just works. We need to let it learn our schedule for the first week before it starts doing its smart stuff but its interesting to log in and see when the heating was on and for how long. Once it has started being truly smart I can start playing around with geofencing and possible use of IFTTT. We have also got some Philips Hue Lamps which after the initial playing around with colours we now have set and controlled by IFTTT to come on first thing in the morning for an hour and again at sunset which proved really useful on Monday as we were later getting back than expected and would have usually arrived back to a house in total darkness, but they had switched on automatically. I would like to be able to tie all this in with some kind of smart house security but I need to further research
  15. Because where else are they going to innovate, Screen resolution is higher than is useful, battery life cannot improve massively and cameras will not get better with the increase of megapixels. Apple, Samsung, LG and HTC will all want to get 64bit handsets out asap, not in 2- 3 years because by that time they will be left behind. The OS for Apple and Android are unified so a 64 bit OS isnt just about the mobile in your pocket its the ipad and the tablet you use and it will be interesting to see how the announcements in the next 48 hrs will pan out on that front.
  16. Look out for a blog post from Google with an interesting announcement tomorrow
  17. I now have Nest Thermostat installed and it does look a very smart bit of kit. it appears to be very easy to program either from the app or vie the website. As we had only had a timer on our boiler we at least should see some savings as it will switch off when it reaches the desired temp. At the moment it doesn't do geofencing out of the box but has a sensor which will switch you to away after a set time. I am looking at utilising IFTT and either life360 to do somekind of geofencing as I am on Android but my wife is on iphone there isnt any unified solution. Lighting is next on the agenda with either Philips Hue or LIFX. Hue is the more established but LIFX when they get their cloud offering working will work directly with Nest.
  18. The same place I heard about the October 15th announcement of the Nexus 6 from Motorola and Nexus 9 from HTC.
  19. The Nexus 6 will be 32 bit but the Nexus 9 will be 64bit. Next year when Android M is released and is native 64 bit the 6 will not get the full optimized version but the 9 and the next Nexus phone which will almost certainly have a 64 bit processor will get all the goodness of 64bit OS. This is the reason I am skipping the 6.
  20. Changes will have to be made after today. Its hard to see how he can ever get into an F1 car again, not that it matters at this point.
  21. So Nexus 6 to have a 5.9 inch display..........I might miss this one I think.
  22. Rachel Riley is a stunner, end of.
  23. So it appears that in an effort to make the Iphone 6 & 6 plus slim and light Apple have not taken into account the fact the people will put them in jean pockets and there are plenty of upset owners who have bent their iphone. I used to own an iphone and with the 6 plus they have finally brought to market a handset I would consider as an upgrade but I might pass on this one.
  24. So now my wife has decided she wants to go for the Nest Thermostat because it looks nice!!! Having looked at the options to install it we narrowed it down to 2, through Nest themselves (fitted @ £249.00) or Npower (fitted @ £279.00). Now the only reason Npower got a second glance was that our boiler breakdown cover is with them and there would be less chance of there being issues. Well apparently not as it quite clearly states on the Npower website that any issues following installation should be taken up directly with Nest!! Will see if our boiler is compatible when the come to install.

    Smart Watches

This batch are 2nd gen. The Pebble was 1st gen. Well the Sony Smartwatch & Metawatch both preceeded the Pebble........ I should make clear I meant the 2nd generation of Android Wear which will inevitably follow.
