Fair enough. But I'd put money on the ones that didn't come true being down to the fact that the transfers broke down or the fact that it was a whisper that MM heard and repeated, ie: not a solid rumour, and he would have said that at the time. Why would MM lie about things that were said behind closed doors? I can understand a transfer falling through and him then looking silly, but why would he lie? He's never seemed the type to just make things up to look cool or get a reaction.

MM only ever told us what he heard. He rarely said anything was 100% fact, because football transfers can break down at any point. IIRC he gave us a very solid opinion that Houllier was going to be manager, that Ireland was coming, that Downing was coming etc etc... way before the papers had any clue. If you go on google and type in 'villatalk'... 'villatalk mysteryman' pops up. The journos caught on to how reliable he was and started poaching what he said. You might not have believed him but a hell of a lot of people on here do/ did.

I don't think it's that concerning really. We're supposedly looking at N'Zogbia who will cost around £9m. Hutton was around £9m when Spurs bought him, but now he's out of favour and has 1 year left on his contract. £3m is good business for a player who is actually worth more than that. Given is probably worth more than we're paying for him, but again, Man City aren't playing him and now they'll just want to get him off the wagebill. So a cut price deal for him too. (Also, it was only 6 months ago we payed £18m for a striker)

I cant see Liverpool going that high.. I can also see our board looking at the 18m and thinking its a good enough porice to sell..This is why I think we should at least try and get a player included in the deal.. I dont want to sell Downing full stop...Just going by past deals I think the board will deal on 18m. N'Gog isnt great but he is good enough as a back up striker/winger..He is also young enough to improve..Would be a good replacement for Heskey and a cheaper option on wages. I'd hate us to buy N'Gog. Whenever I've seen him, he's just looked like a headless chicken. I don't know if there are any unwanted-Liverpool players that we would need/ want. Offer £22m+ or get stuffed!

Agreed, albrighton is not good enough to be our starting winger next season. If downing goes we need to go out and get another one. I agree and disagree with this, to a point. We should have 3 wingers but, if Downing leaves, I'd rather have N'Zogbia, Albrighton and another youngster than N'Zogbia, Albrighton and another experienced winger. If we brought another experienced winger into the side then that could halt Albrighton's progress and I genuinly think he is ready to step up this season. I'd love for us to bring in another youngster, like Oxlade-Chamberlain, then we could play N'Zogbia and one of the youngsters. Though I suppose that leaves us open defensively, with kids constantly playing.

He's not for sale. But if a crazy offer comes in then we'd be mad to turn it down. I understand that completely. If an offer of £27m came in, we'd be better off accepting it and investing back into the squad.

Yes Please! Hutton was outstanding at times last year. He created and scored some good goals. The fact that Spurs paid £9m for him, he has a year left on his contract and that he is only 26 mean I'd defo go for him!! If we can't find a decent LB this summer then we can push L Young to the left. Or we could buy Hutton and a leftback and let Hutton and Young fight it out for the starting spot.
