  1. Galatasary finished 3rd in 2009/10 - up from 5th the year before. Kewell signed in 2008/2009. Rijkaard didn't take over till the next year. Yeah my mistake it was another prem great Lucas Neill. Thats the thing with Rijkaard, he has a name, how else can you explain how he got the oldest Dutch team in their league relegated for the first time in their history and still land the manager job at the biggest football club in the world. I spoken to quite a few Gala fans and they complain that though they had the players to play well, the team lack energy and creativity and were losing heavily to bottom half of the league teams and alot of them thought he may have got them relegated.
  2. Rijkaard shouldn't be allowed a million miles of Villa, I would put money on us getting relegated if we get him. Yes he had a good spell at Barca, but just look at the players he had to work with there and just looked how a inexperience Pep had done a fair better job as manager with Barca. Rijkaard nearly got Galatasary relegated last season, signing players like Kewell!. He also got Sparta Rotterdam relegated in his only other club manager role and somehow still manage to get teh Barca job afterwards. Speak to any Gala fan and they will tell you to keep a million miles away from him. He a manager in name only. Keep well away.
  3. Rijkard shouldn't come within a million miles of Villa, he got Sparta Rotterdam relegated and almost did the same for Galastary, till they got rid, only had success with a already brillant Barca team, with the small clubs he struggles big time. Jol is another average manager, left Ajax mid season, because he thought the team owner had to much high expectation and the team went on to win the league, will only get us mid table finishes just like Hughes, McClaren etc. I think it has to be a manager like Benitez, I know he unpopular, but is a brillant manager with no personality, say what you want, but he did make Liverpool into a top 4 team and was doind a decent job till the new owner came in. But If we can get Ancelotti, it would be brillant, get rid of Young and Downing and give him 50 mil to invest in the team. I personally don't want those two player near the team after they both try to egineer moves away from the club.
  4. I came on to write exactly this word for word, though definitely not Benitez. Let's remember that Benitez took a Houllier team and made it worse... imagine what would happen to us if he made us even worse!! UTV Going onto win the biggest trophy you can at club level is making a team worse, I welcome Benitez. I thought he was decent at Liverpool, got them the FA Cup, made them into the top 4 team, finishing as high as 2nd. With Valencia, 2 la liga titles in a league dominated by 2 teams and UEFA cup is nothing to be sniffed at. His personailty and some if his signing aren't great, but he still a super coach, look what happen at the start of this season at Liverpool, the trouble was with the owners not the management, would be a great signing for Villa, we never ever had a coach with a CV like his and thats why Carlo Ancelotti and Benitez are two of my favourite.
  5. I think Villa need a Bent like moment like we had in the January transfer window. Signing up a Jol, Hughes, McClaren will not really excite the fans, but ancelotti and wilkin partnership will send out a message to the rest of the Prem and make them stand up and take notice, if not I be happy with Coyle or Moyes and Benitez as well.
  6. I think the question has to be asked, do Villa fans really want to see Young and Downing in Villa shirts again. I don't, especially Downing. He doesn't deserve to wear the Villa shirt again IMO.
  7. Ancoletti, Moyes, Coyles and Benitez are fine by me. Don't want to be hearing Jol, Koeman or Rijkaard name mention with the job please!
  8. Carlo Ancelotti a must if he available and willing. People mention Rijkaard, but he failed at two clubs will a similar standing as Villa, Galastary were near relegation till they got rid of him and he got sparta rotterdam relegated. Carlo hasn't really failed as a club manager and it be interesting what he can do with a club like Villa.
  9. Bent works hard for the team, I thought he was a final 3rd player and in essence he is, but he does track back when he needs to and he is always there when a chance appears, which you want from a striker. If we really want a striker who does all the other aspect of the game but doesn't score, we can always play Heskey, but currently I happy with Bent, would like Gabby to get more of a run out as well. Thinks he need a better song though, his current one is poor.
  10. Got to say that Villa haven't come out with a good chant for a long time, we had a spate of them with Carew, Gabby and Ashley Young songs, but since then all we manage is a typical one for Albrighton a rubbish one for Bent and still nothing for our player of the year Downing. Don't know who in charge of songs at Villa park, but they need shooting.
  11. I going to stay at the end. I think that the 6th places finishes has spoil some Villa fans. Just like the away fans who stay and support Villa regardless, I think the home fans need to start doing the same. Think we need to give AY a send off as well, regardless to what people say, he help persuade my nephew to be a Villa fans and I sure he has countlesss other young supporters with his flair, yes he had a poorer season then usual, but his goal/ratio isn't to bad to be honest, just slightly down on his assists from previous years.
  12. I wouldn't mind Benitez, because as a manager he starts from a defensive outlook and build his team around that. We have enough attacking flair at Villa, but like today, I could never see us keeping a clean sheet and that is something I felt most of the season. Moyes and Coyles are two good shouts and abit more risky Lambert and Poyet as well could do a job.
  13. Didn't think we had a bad first half, apart from one long range effort, Friedel hasn't be tested. NRC and Petrov seem to be doing okay, considering they have a 5 man midfield they are up against. The combination on the left isn't as good as on the right, the Young's need to improve, but we could have had more then a couple, if the final ball or finishes had been better.
  14. I would go for Owen Coyle. Got Burnley promoted and were midtable before taking on a one dimensional Bolton side, saving them for relegation and this season playing a attractive game in midtable with an average Bolton team who should be relegation candidates at the least.
  15. Its say something about the players he played yesterday, that he doesn't think to highly of them. Lacks class and looked for excuses where there was none. Personally don't think he should be allowed to get away with calling Young a cheat when any sane person, could see he was fouled. Out of all the premier league team this season, without doubt we have had the worse luck with injuries, but credit to GH, he hasn't gone on like Pardew.
  16. I think Dunne and Collins looked good last season, because Villa were a defensive team, the midfield were set up to protect the defence. GH wants to play a more expansive passing game and this has expose our defender for exactly what they are. Whether GH is in charge of Villa next season or not, I want Collins and Dunne out of Villa, because they shown this season that they haven't got Villa best interest at heart, they rather push their own agendas.
  17. I Like adidas kits the best, they more comfortable to wear and a decent design. Which ever willing to keep either the Home or away kit for more then one season is surely a winner. I think more people will be willing to buy a kit, if they knew it was going to last more then one season or a half in our case.
  18. I think with all the off field problems that Villa were having when GH came in, must have affected Ireland. No one can doubt his quality, he just seem lost. I thought he looked fragile when he had his first press conference at Villa, thought he would burst into tears, when talking about his time at Man City. He obviously hadn't played alot of football, before he came to Villa, so GH is doing the right thing, by giving him time to get some first team football. I'm afraid its a straight choice between him and Young and there only one winner at the moment.
  19. I think the only role he can play is the one that Young is playing at the moment and there isn't room for both of them. I guessing thats why we sending him out on loan, just in case Young leaves in the Summer, we have a ready made replacement.
  20. The Barry situation is confusing IMO, here we have a player we made roughly the same amount of profit from as Milner, who gave Villa 12 brillant years of service to Villa and yet we would boo him over Milner who was at the club for over 2 years. Yes Milner was a good professional, but so was Barry, they probably got the same amount of payrise, so the money question isn't a issue, as if one is consider to be greedy, so must the other. I personally believe that Barry moved to a club that he knew that could match his own ambitions, because no one can doubt the level of ambition in Man City. Yes Barry made a mistake by going public in wanting a move, but it common knowledge he admitted he made a mistake and thats why he got rid of his agent afterwards. He obviously has a fondness for Villa still, even after getting all those boos last season, when Man City scored he didn't celebrate. I can understand his transfer hurt more then Milner as Barry meant more to the club then anyone in the last decade, but its time to move on and show him the respect his service for Villa deserves.
  21. The bell are ringing is my personal favourite, Villa has always been a traditional club and we should stick to what we know.
  22. Would only sell Downing if we get Young to sign a new contract. Young best position is on the left. But if he leaving in the summer, then we need to keep Downing. But would find it hard if Liverpool are interested, as the lure of helping restore a fallen giant in Liverpool.
  23. Lets pray that 18 million fee include a 8 million Ireland in it!

  25. Graham Poll he obviously didnt see the tackles by petrov or terry I think the point he was making was that it wasn't a dirty game, yes there was the odd bad tackle, but overall it was a good honest game and Villa didn't deserve 7 bookings. But I think the ref fired the players up, he basically done Houllier job for him. I think this where Houllier biggest problem has been, our good performance haven't got us the results we deserve, if we have won at Man U, Fulham and Chelsea we be talking about Europe, but our failure to see out these games have cost us.
