  1. data.analyst { xG is fine. It can be useful, depending on how it's being used, but it's a lot less intuitive than people seem to think it is. Anyone using it as the metric by which to assess a team's performance in a game is on a hiding to nothing. There aren't enough variables in the calculation for it to give an accurate picture of how a match went, for a start. }
  2. Much as I despise them with a deep and profound loathing, I'd be surprised if Leeds didn't stay up this year. They have one of the best managers in the division and some very capable players. They're well ahead of WBA and Fulham in terms of their style of play and their flexibility.
  3. The problem being, many of those predictions have us finishing 18th and going down with them.
  4. Helped to keep a clean sheet and won a penalty. Castagne will get the headlines because he's scored on his debut and it was a well-taken goal to be fair, but I fancy Justin to have a really good season.
  5. James Justin has done well. Great full-back. We were in for him when Leicester got him, IIRC.
  6. Hopefully not this season's Sheffield United.
  7. Leicester wearing claret, desperate to look like a big club, smh
  8. I see Ollie will wear #11 after Nakamba vacated it for him. Marv is taking #19 instead. Doesn't matter a jot in the grander scheme of things but fair play to Marvelous all the same.
  9. I love the way we talk about football transfers. Our interest was first registered back in July - can't have been much of a race! What did we do to 'fend off' the opposition, wave our zimmer frame around?
  10. Nice of Southgate to take part in courting and chasing and convincing Jack to quit the Irish setup, and then doing this to him when he's finally good enough to play for the full team. He's an arsehole of the highest order and I will celebrate the day he's sacked and crawls backwards into managerial obscurity. I'll enjoy never having to see his name in the same sentence or paragraph as Aston Villa ever again. The tw@t.
  11. Have you ever tired to iron a Kappa shirt? Melts like tar in a heatwave But welcome Ollie to our majestic and storied club. Enjoy the ride, and please don't be shit!
  12. Got twice as many minutes as I predicted since his call-up... I suppose that's something. Oh well. He's survived his first cap unscathed, he can sign his new contract now and all will be well. Right?
  13. No, I think it probably went a little bit like this: Jack (2018): Hi Gaffer, thanks for taking my call. As you know I'd love to play for England some day and I just thought I'd get in touch to ask what I need to do to break into the squad? Southgate: Well Jack, it's like this. I know you love Villa, and that's commendable, but sometimes you have to do what's best for yourself and your career, and I really think a move to a bigger club would work wonders for you. Jack: You mean like Middlesbrough? ............ Hello...?
  14. Getting to a final is not winning anything - as we Villa fans well know. As for the cup he won, he won the exact same cup playing for Villa just a few years before. IMO he will never be justified for the way he left us, and he's done nothing to endear himself to us since. The twunt.
  15. The point is he deserves it. Anyone who's watched Jack play as much as we have know that he's worked his arse off for the last couple of seasons, he's gotten better all the time, he's earned it a hundred times over at this point. It's also better for Villa to have our captain starring on the international stage. It raises the profile of our club for potential future recruits. With respect to our new additions I don't want to be shopping in the EFL forever.
  16. I thought maybe after posting this I had gone too far, said too much. I wish I'd gone further
