    Even if it was a free swing, I don't think the best way to handle any 19-year-old's progression is to give him 90 minutes against the champions who will most likely have us for breakfast. Dean is doing the right thing - playing him against lesser opposition in the cups and giving him league minutes here and there when sensible until he is ready. He's by no means ready to start against Liverpool, whatever the logic behind that.

    That is really lovely to read for all sorts of reasons, but to echo what others have said, Jacob earned those minutes and great to see him out there. Here's hoping he can be a big player for us in the future. Even if he turns out to be a bit-part player for us, it's so important to show the academy youth that they can and will break into the first team with the right attitude and a bit of talent. Under no illusions that Ramsay is the new messiah, but he seems composed and does the basics well. More of this lad please!

    It's certainly nothing to get carried away with, but 6 points from our first 2 games vs 0 points from our first 2 games last season... signs of progress. Now, that progress will probably be modest, and of course we play Liverpool next in the league, but still we have plenty of reason to be positive.

    Mings & McGinn 8 - both back to their best Jack 7 - dropped off towards the end but imperious in the first half Referee 0.9 - I've given him 0.1 for each yellow card he gave out, because that seems to be his benchmark for refereeing a game. You get card, you get a card, everybody gets a card!!! Special shout-out to the Tanzanian Samatta supporters who threatened to put a hex on us but just watched us win 3-0 away from home without their national hero... must hurt.

    The one thing about Watkins for me is his attitude. It's not happened for him tonight but he doesn't sulk and fling his arms around like Wesley did every time he didn't get the rub of the green (which let's be honest was frequently). The goals will come.....
