    Maybe we would crow about selling players, if we turned any kind of profit on any player in the last 10 years, and they flopped or even excelled further. We just overpay and let there contracts run out....no wonder FFP is an issue.

    Finally fixed our defensive issues. We need to sign the Japanese back 5. Cant cost alot, surely. Yesterday in the Asia Cup they won a game 1-0 with 23% possession and had 15 shots on their goal. Real steel.

    This season we need to have a real go for promotion! This is likely to be our last decent shot at it for a few seasons I fear. Dean Smith's appointment as manager is going to be a pivotal moment in Aston Villa history, one way or the other. We could lose all "these experienced" old players and the result being next season we end up with players from the Irish League 1, League One, League Two or from some sub par european division. We could turn profit on a few players which would be against the grain and business model that we currently operate. If it all goes wrong we can end up with a major rebuilding process of the entire team which could cement our place in the lower leagues for the foreseeable. For every negative theres a positive. We could sign these cheap players, turn over millions of profit on players, and get promoted. Dean Smith becomes Villa Park legend. Either way Smith is going to have a direct impact on Aston Villa like none before him.....

    These keepers can't be judged with this defence. Put Nyland or Kalinic into last seasons team, where we defended with 11 men and had Terry leading the line, who was clearly the best defender in the league by a country mile, they would also be classed as a HUGE miss. It wasn't the keeper that was so good last season but the defence. Enckleman could of been classed as a great keeper in that team.

    Chelsea cant recall Tammy anymore. The 14th of January deadline has passed and he will be a Villa player until Summer. Hogan gets to work on the groove he is embedding onto the substitute bench a few more months.

    It's OK shows how good our young lads are. We prefer a semi pro to one of our own.

    Most of our youth players are 20. Sounds young and compared to me, extremely young. In football terms though if they ain't broken into your first team there time is close to up. To round a few off RHM, JDH, Easah Suliman and the list goes on. Age is just a number and i like the saying if there good enough there old enough. I honestly think if we had Owen, Rooney, Mbappe, Sancho, Sterling or even Jack Clarke of Leeds there careers wouldn't be like there's are now or even went. So are we holding our youth back or are they not the mustard we hope for?

    Basically a 7/10 player. I would take that. Better than our regular 5/10 from poor midfield players.

    We should be having players to walk into our team. Not giving them a bedding in period of 6 months.

    I wasnt an advocat of Bruce and I arent suggesting he should of stayed in a job. However Bruce kept 2 clean sheets in 14 games. Also only conceded more than 2 goals twice. Under smith we have kept the 5 clean sheets but conceded more than 2 goals 4 times. On average we are conceeding more goals under Smith than under Bruce. Were also scoring more than under Bruce. All of this is for nothing though cause only points mean prizes and our football is getting worse as more games are played. Playing 19th and having 0 shots on target, thats embarassing. Thats not Bruces fault, thats Dean Smiths, he would have more time from the fans if he played our ever ageing young players. Bruce was rightly sacked, Smith deserves time, just about. Players were linked with at the moment all seem from our scouts history. Harold Makoudi is linked again, Kalinic was a player we had interest in a few years ago. Only Hause is a new name.........and he aint looking good.

    There could be an argument that Bruce did make us hard to beat....were shipping goals for fun now.

    Your right. You tell me what he preferred though winning 29 of 46 games in the Championship or 12 in 38 on the Premier League or so far this season 4 wins in 22. The Championship is a vile league, I agree, its a pain in the ass to get out of. I just feel if we had him it would all be different. He could get us promoted and actually have real cash in his hand for players. I just feel VP is too big for DS and signings of Hause isnt great to see....we need someone to walk into our team today not in 6 months time. This isn't a dig at Dean Smith and our conversation is certainly for a different part of the forum than Dean Smith.

    Has issues at Newcastle United, he would have £££ to spend, which is something of a luxury to him. Hes been in the Championship, Our owners don't interfere and aren't rotten to the core. To be fair anything to get away from Mike Ashley would be a bonus for him, he'd probably sign for Accrington Stanley.

    I'd take Rafa Benitez if Smith doesn't work out. Smiths transfers are still unknown but for all of Bruce's issues he seemed to be able to get a half decent side together. Admittedly half of the signings turned pretty sour, but half were good.

    After the Wigan game Aston Villa have 38 points out of a possible 81. The final projected points total will currently be 65 points that is points after 46 games. Basing this off last seasons final table will put us 12th. There is still 57 points to play for giving us a maximum potential points haul of 95 points. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since the appointment of Dean Smith the new projected points total would be 67 points that is points after 46 games. That has included (Before Smith) of 1.25 PPG from Steve Bruce and the current 1.53PPG from Smith. Using 1.53PPG over the remaining 19 games. Basing this off last seasons final table will put us 11th. Thought for the day: Were the only academy with players in context that would be classed as OAP's.

    It could also be the high pressing game has given all these professional sports players intense fatigue. They're not the youngest bunch. Just seems such a bs excuse though.

    Eve with all these players gone. We arent going have money to buy new players. The money saved on wages will hopefully keep us afloat for FFP.

    I would like us to keep Kodj and change the formation that clearly isn't working. We need go back to basics and play 442 with Tammy and Kodi up front.

    Here lies the problem then. Albrighton aside who has a premier league winners medal and an industrious career. Lichaj and Hogganfield walking into our team......how the €£¥% did we let that happen.

    This has been the same thing that was said over the last 5 seasons of our youth. Even when we were relegated at least our youth will get games. Maybe we our over egging our own youth team.
