  1. Two wide men aren't up for this at the moment
  2. This is why Jack is so important to the Villa, and the way Dean plays, just watch the last minute or so and see how he commits players. First touch is quality as well.
  3. Adomah and Kodja have been really poor. Real lack of quality.
  4. I love Mings, he wants the ball all the time. Not afraid to go forward. Always positive.
  5. Hourihane. Doesn't want the ball, doesn't tackle, just follows players around the field, offers absolutely nothing. He needs to come off now.
  6. I see a number of Villa fans on here are going off their minds because off recent poor performances. Here's how I look at this. If I took the starting line-up from Friday, and asked myself how many of this team would I want to see starting the first game of next season, assuming we are still in the Championship? I had five players that I would want to start next season, irrespective of if we could keep them or not. So if it's only five, it's no wonder we are having problems as over half the team just aren't good enough. You can carry one or two, but not six.
  7. On the plane on Wi-Fi watching various Text streams. Keep the comments coming tonight. UTV
  8. Here's an example of why we are in the mess we are with our playing squad. In the summer of 2017 the Villa signed Glen Whelan on about 30 grand per week. At the same time Brentford signed Ollie Watkins from Exeter for 2 million and are paying him about 6 grand a week. Tell me which one you would want in this team today? Give Dean a little time as the Bruce legacy will need at least a summer to eradicate.
  9. In Summary: McGinn is not a number 10 - Not a replacement for Jack Hourihane - Just awful Both Wingers - Poor today. Complete lack of quality Defense - Middle two looked very comfortable. The full backs still make me nervous.
  10. I will be surprised if you see him start another game. He doesn't fit in to this Villa team. Too slow, too many touches and not sharp enough.
  11. Injured. Was going to be out for a number of weeks. Not good business to sign an inured player on a sort term deal.
  12. Not good enough. Doesn't look comfortable coming forward with the ball and his crossing and distribution are poor. Yes, he can put a tackle in and track wingers but that's not good enough in a Dean Smith team. You need need to comfortable with the ball and not want to get rid of it as quickly as you can.
  13. I know it wasn't the best we have played under Smith but we had 23 shots and 13 on target. Anyone quoting possession stats, all of it was in their own half. Agreed, Elmo looked poor when he came on. However, they never had a sniff in the last 10 minutes and extra time when Jedinak came on. It was the Villa dominating possession and killing the game. Better delivery from the wide players today and we could have had 5, plus their keeper played really well. They only really had two chances and scored a worldie goal. It wasn't great, but it was OK and we were comfortable.
  14. Please tell me what Bjarnason brings to the team? He never really wants the ball, is always just a little late to close a player down or make a tackle, and I never see him sprint anywhere. Total liability. As for Bolasie, he should not come out for the second half. Offered nothing in attack and doesn't work hard enough in defense. Add Green and Davies and go 4-4-2. Bolasie and Bjarnason should not come out for the second half.

  16. The Bielsa spying thing is a disgrace. By Thursday the players more or less know who is in the team for Saturday. Thursday is then spent with the first team against subs, etc. practicing positioning, tactics, etc. Now considering the manager doesn't get the team sheet normally until an hour before kick-off, I would say that's a pretty big advantage. Imagine spying on the Villa a day or so before the Leeds game and seeing that Axel is not on the field. Now it's a huge advantage. None of us knew Axel was injured, what if Bielsa did? Friday is spent with a walk through of set pieces, defending corners, etc. Again, another huge advantage if you know exactly how Villa re going to line up, and where the ball is expected to be delivered, for attacking and defending corners. Don't underestimate what a huge advantage it is to see all of this prior to setting out your team. If you know exactly how the opposition will be set up you can plan against it. Otherwise, you are at best guessing that its one of many options. This is wrong, Leeds should be fined and have points reduced as it brings the game in to disrepute. There's a reason why there is a fence, tees and bushes around BMH.
  17. Let's be honest we have one player in midfield, McGinn. Even with Jack in there we were carrying Hourihane. With Jack out, BB, Whelen and Hourihane show their true colors. They are just not good enough. Add two of the worst full backs ever to wear a Villa short and you can see why we were so bad yesterday. The squad is too old, too slow and does not play at the pace needed for Smiths style. A major overhaul is required.
  18. Honestly, he should never ever play for Villa again. I said it two weeks ago, he is lazy, slow and is just not sharp enough to play the fast paced game that Dean wants.
