  1. Brighton are nowhere near the prestige and size of this great football club, but not sure why it upsets you to call out their transfer business model which is making them literally hundreds of millions every season? We aren't a selling club and that is the difference, but we should still be uncovering future stars rather than purely buying players who have already reached that potential. Even if that was 10% of our transfer policy.
  2. I think as soon as you start with a team like the below - it feels better. Cash - Konsa (or Carlos) - Torres - Digne McGinn - Kamara - Luiz Tielemans Diaby --- Watkins No Bailey, McGinn covering for Cash, even Konsa at right back would be fine. We just suddenly need Tielemans and Torres to hit the ground running more than we thought we did. Throw in Zanilo as an option if we want to swap the midfield around - it doesn't feel as bad. We still need to decide what is happening with Archer and if going on loan or transfer with buy back, get on and buy another striker.
  3. You're thinking of Philip Schofield? Too soon? I'll get me coat
  4. This is something i don't understand, we have literally stopped trying to uncover uncut/unproven gems - ala Brighton, Brentford (even Southampton). I know we need proven talent and that is 70-80% the focus - but do we have no scouting network other than for youth? I know Duran could be considered that, but not for the money paid...
  5. he's been told to 'just say no'
  6. he watched the highlights of the Newcastle game and has now retired
  7. He has zero physical strength, it's like getting a ball off a five year old, if he could improve this side of his game he could be one hell of a player
  8. cash lets everyone move around him
  9. He wasn't the worse player on the pitch - but I don't understand how we have gone from - one wide player and one striker - with either AJ or Buendia providing a forward counter attacking threat (and sometimes McGinn). To Bailey and Diaby playing together, which i'm not saying couldn't work, but presently we look all out of balance and did in preseason when they both played.
  10. no, not even close, a draw would be a miracle, we've got almost everything wrong
  11. we learnt literally nothing from the preseason game and they learnt how easy our high line can be exploited.
  12. exactly! and what if Watkins discovers scientology? Or aliens steal his feet?
  13. I remember when Jacob was given game time and he struggled from time to time and many said he wasn't ready or good enough, but we persisted and now he's probably in the top 20 midfielders in the country. People wrote off Bidace many times, even based on his loan performances and yet many now think he could be like a new signing and want him to stick around. I will stick my neck on the line and say if Archer got game time he would score goals, not saying he would be at the level we need him to be, impossible to speculate at this point, but seem to recall him scoring against Chelsea in the cup, no one was bleating he's not good enough then. Just funny how some use a few pre-season game 'cameos' to write him off. I have no idea if Unai rates him either, oh wait forget to end with 'whatever Unai thinks I trust him' which is true, but don't need to state it every ten seconds.
  14. what happens when Watkins gets injured? Or even tired? Or we are losing in a match and need to try something different. I don't think Bailey or Diaby are really the answer - neither is Traore (if for some mad reason he sticks around). Duran hasn't played 90 mins yet or even 20 mins for us. Not saying Archer is the answer but i'd play him over Duran as it stands, especially because Duran has had no preseason. No issue with him going on loan or selling him with a buy back clause, but we need another striker who can deputise when needed. As much as selling Ings was the right move, it was a huge gamble. Fortunately Watkins didn't get injured, but i wouldn't roll the dice again.
  15. The Russians stopped spaffing money like this about ten years ago.
  16. Feels like there is no story without another team ready in the background to offer more - there has to be drama to get those clicks For the links to get to this stage it tells me usually that we know the player wants to sign for us, we've prob even floated personal terms that work now. Now it's time for the selling club to try and ramp up the price and for the gutter press to make up b*llocks.
  17. Nope didn't understand Arsenal's obsession with him either
  18. based on pre-season form i would have definitely started him, utterly gutted. Thankful that Diaby and Philogene have looked good in preseason and signs of life in Phil. I love Buendia because he has bite and tenacity, like a wild terrier, as frustrating as he can be as sometimes that frustration and hissy fits work against him, but he offers something no other Villa player currently does - (Diaby might who knows).
  19. is this related to pushing Darren Bent's electric butt plug?
  20. we've definitely seen him this summer
  21. Interesting to see what will happen to Tim (surely another loan) Davies (surely a sale) Hause (pay him off?) Must be a few others we would loan out I wouldn't sell A Ramsey, there is no reason to think he can't be as good as his brother - who needed a run in the team to prove his class.
  22. he's also been playing really well in preseason and ended the season strong, not saying we shouldn't cash in if we get a big offer but he's definitely not a problem player i didn't rate him at all when he joined, but he has been decent in recent times and that rhymes so it must be true.
