  2. He spent only half a season at Newcastle too and had them in the European places on October 22, but went on a poor run and was sacked on January 9 with them in 11th position. 'It is damaging to a career you have spent years and years and years putting together and accumulating and proving that you are a quality manager and even though the reasons are not that valid it is still pretty damaging.'
  3. Yeah, 125/1 would probably be more accurate. I've adjusted the odds accordingly.
  4. Next Aston Villa manager odds: Bushwhacker Butch - 3/1 Thierry Henry - 12/1 Brendan Rodgers 15/1 Doink the Clown - 20/1 Sam Allardyce - 25/1 Slaven Bilic - 25/1 Red Rooster - 30/1 David Moyes - 40/1 IRS - 125/1
  5. I think he has more upside than people think. Bolton were great to watch under him. He really hasn't had an extended stint at a club where he's been properly backed. I thought it was going to happen for him at Crystal Palace, Everton or for England but all 3 were cut short. It could be an inspired choice if he's serious about the job.
  6. If we hired Sam when we should have we wouldn't be in the Championship now.
  7. I expected Lampard would be a decent appointment for Derby. Not a fan of Henry though. Ranieri, Allardyce or Sanchez Flores for me.
  8. I'd also argue it's difficult to be an effective leader and be able to 'get the best out of players' if you haven't got a deep understanding of psychology. It's at the core of being an effective 'man manager'.
  9. He ticks a few boxes, but not enough for me.
  10. Morale wouldn't have been what it was if we weren't winning and we wouldn't have won the games we did if it wasn't for Terry in central defense plus a couple of others who came together well and brought a real solidarity to the team in terms of character mainly. There's a view on here that Bruce is a poor tactician but a good 'man manager' which I don't subscribe to at all. 'Man management' is all about psychology which is not one of Bruce's strong points.
  11. Kind of gives you a snapshot into the influence he would have had on the players last season in terms of lifting the morale and building something solid. People credit Bruce for this and he deserves some credit for signing him, but Bruce without Terry so far has been more than shaky.
  12. I'm not a fan either and certainly not "licking my lips". I would have liked us to sign Gayle. Such an underrated player and would have been excellent alongside Davis too when he gets back from injury. Good luck to him though.?
  13. I've never seen him as a manager who can reliably keep a team in the Premier League. That would have been my benchmark for quality when appointing a manager and he falls short of it.
  14. Do people actually think Bruce could implement a different 'style'? A manager's 'style' is just a reflection of their personality in a way. It's the quality behind their style and the quality of their ideas and how effectively they can translate that into something practical which determines the success of a manager. Bruce and Allardyce arguably have a similar 'style' but there is an obvious gap in quality there.
  15. Sack him and get Allardyce while he's available. He's worked with Bolasie before and showed at Sunderland he can get the best out of some pretty ordinary players too, which will certainly come in handy when he's figuring out what to do with the majority of Bruce's signings.

  17. I'm not a fan either, but he just needs a solid and commanding partner with a strong presence to compliment him or even just a player more on his wavelength. I rate Jedinak highly as a CDM but most players would struggle for chemistry alongside him in central defense. It's all about chemistry and I think Chester had it in spades with Terry which is why we looked so solid defensively last season.
  18. Could be just what Hogan needs to reignite his career.

  20. Josh Sims has joined Reading on loan from Southampton. I hope El Ghazi has some quality because Sims is a top signing for them.
  21. Signings of Terry and Snodgrass saved Bruce last season and the signings of McGinn and Bolasie could save him this season.
  22. Probably since we signed Gueye, Amavi and Traore actually.
  23. Bruce + flamboyancy just doesn't go together which has me excited about this and concerned at the same time. As much as I'd love for us to sign him, Middlesbrough would be the better career move for him to be honest.
