If it’s Rooney against Dyche though - is it even a contest ? Everton could get this wrapped up very quickly and sensibly and probably stay in the league. If they fanny around and make stupid nostalgic choices like Rooney - they’ll get relegated. Simple.

And rightly so. The football snobs at Everton either want to stay in the league or not. They’ve zero form with foreign coaches and now is not the time to get clever.

It’s not that complicated unless they make it that way. It’s Dyche’s job. Nobody else’s. Their fanbase have serious delusions of grandeur and most of their last few managers, lampard aside, have been well backed financially. The argument that “ well he almost got Burnley relegated “ is bollocks. Top 6 in the championship were spending more than Burnley FFS. What he did there was remarkable. Go back to what you are Everton, a working class, community based club. It’s when you get notions the wheels come off.

Could be set up for De Minaur later on. 23, seriously fit - reminds me a lot of Hewitt in that he has no outstanding shot in his arsenal but solid game. Will be a massively partisan crowd. Needs to be careful not to get dragged into the Djokovic head ****-y when he starts going on about injuries the other day. If he gets sucked into thinking Novak won’t be at his best, he’ll be 2 sets down and serving to serving to stay in the match before he knows it. Classic Djokovic. Champions gain every , every edge possible - even before the match.

Sometimes i question have i fallen out of love of boxing when i didn’t buy or watch Fury v Chisora or Smith V Eubank Jr. I know i haven’t when i get totally unmoved by those but very excited to hear Tim Tszyu is fighting Tony Harrison on March 12th. Casuals be like “ Huh” Real fans know that’s a fight. A proper trade fight as we call it.

It’s nothing personal and id hope all these lads make their way in the game. If it’s not at Villa, there is scope to forge out a career elsewhere. Bannan is a classic example that you don’t need to be fatalistic about the situation if you don’t make it where you thought you would. Great pro. Although i can’t put Bannan in the “ not making it here “ category. Played almost 70 games for us.

There is a reason there was so much fuss over Carney and as acrimonious as the parting was - we tried to keep him because we knew, and chelsea knew. Similar to how we don’t face the same resistance trying to keep Barry, Chrisense, Doyle-Hayes, McKirdy. They’ll unlikely make it at elite level

Some of that intricate stuff we played through the lines was very good. It was purposeful. Stuff like that is rehearsed. You don’t just overload an area or get into passing triangles by chance. Dare i say it too - looking more comfortable playing it out from the back. What separates him say from Smith is Emery has the nerve to stay true to his methods when it looks a bit hairy at times. Smith folded like a deck chair when we came under pressure and went long with it then.

Yeah i get that . It was a highly competitive match but Bautista Agut just better on the day. The downside for Murray when he enters slams these days is his ranking is so low he’s going to run into seeded players much earlier. The fact he took out berretini, at 35 and patched up basically , is a mark of the player he is. I think 2023 is the last we see of Murray and Nadal. If Nadal plays Roland Garros and can’t win or doesn't get to at least the semis - think he calls it a day. If he wins it he’ll wrap up end of year. Djokovic here for another 2-3 years. He’s a freak.

Word on Murray by the way. Phenomenal career. 3 time grand slam winner is no mean feat. Got into 7 other slam finals. He’d of won a fair chunk of the 5 he lost in Australia if he didn’t run into Djokovic ( greatest player to ever play at the Australian open in my opinion ) No slight on him when i say this but very tactical player. Very attritional, didn’t have the natural tennis ability of a federer or nadal ( though who did ) Murray literally played every point on its own merit.

The late finishes don’t happen at Wimbledon because they don’t have the heat they get during the day sessions in Australia. Play had to be suspended the other day due to heat. Night sessions were brought in to combat this. Players championed it. A 4 am finish is an anomaly, shouldn’t happen. I personally think nothing should go past midnight. People got work the next day etc.
