  1. Linesman wanted to do his little jig while waving the flag. Give the man his moment
  2. So I’m not one for swift removal of coaches/managers but the SG story at Villa cannot end well. The chances of him being able to turn around the confidence of these players is lower than him succeeding. He’s thrown too many of them under the bus, showed he has no ability to tweak HIS system to accommodate the players at his disposal, and had completely messed up HIS captaincy decision. Just rip the bandage off now. We know how this ends and it isn’t with SG getting us into Europe and leaving to manager Liverpool. Christ.
  3. If Bolton are cutting through your midfield like a knife through butter, you need to ask some serious questions. SG: ‘I’m looking for an ethos’
  4. Worrying thing is that I think Gary Mac is actually steering the ship. I think he’s the ‘brains’ behind it all. Don’t think Stevie knows how to do tactics
  5. As he will be given time, it’ll ensure that SG’s reputation is in tatters after we eventually fire him. I just worry about our position. I think we all know that managing Villa’s senior men’s team will be the peak of his career. He won’t go into punditry. He’ll be coaching the Liverpool U21 team by the end of next year (invited back by one of his pals). He’ll do an interview in their official YT channel that’ll make us mad saying he’s home. Then he’ll bounce around the FA system before ending up involved in the England U18 setup. Nevertheless, we need some direction: need to establish the sort of club we want to be rather than moving from one type of manager (DS) to another wholly different in style and personality (SG). Otherwise, we will just keep devaluing our group of players with each new manager.
  6. Can we remove the ‘coaching’ tag from this thread, please? I don’t think SG knows what coaching is. Beyond platitudes about ‘zones’ and ‘ethos’, he has showed no ability to a) bring this team together (quite the opposite) or b) improve the playing staff he has at his disposal. He’s lucky that he has been backed in the transfer market because the fan enthusiasm for those signings has papered over the cracks of his inability to develop his own players. This runs so far against the policy of bringing in players, developing them into assets for the club, that it isn’t even funny.
  7. Two theories on the Sarr deal. Both have consequences for the rest of the window. 1. Sarr thinks we’re shi**e. We got wind of it and pulled the plug before he could either turn us down or present us with enormously unrealistic wage demands. Wonder if our crap performances so far this season might put off other possible signings in the same way? 2. We pulled the plug on Sarr because a big target has become available elsewhere (in another position). We need to redirect that £25m to that new signing. If you pretend that the first option isn’t possible and you focus entirely on the second one, your erection comes back. Ah sweet, sweet delusion.
  8. Tasty and not at all addressing the real problems in our formation!
  9. Deal fell through when SG realised that this guy couldn’t play centrally. ‘Why does he need to be out wide, nothing happens there. That part of the pitch is for coaching staff to occasionally run onto’.
  10. Whose fault will it be this week? He doesn’t have many players left to throw under the bus.
  11. Talks a billy b*llocks game but doesn’t back it up with fundamentals of the game. Perhaps stop thinking you’re Bill Shankly without proving you can set up a midfield properly.
  12. Get well, Diego. Come back stronger. You're now a part of one of the most supportive football families on the planet. We're all thinking of you.
  13. Spy footage of some of McPhee's unorthodox training methods at BH
  14. Spot on. Our attacking players are man for man some of the most exciting - and capable - in the league. We need them to gel. If we’re successful, I think it might mitigate for some of our problems in midfield (or, at least, buy us time to improve it next summer). For me, most of the responsibility for getting a tune out of those wonderful attacking players lays at the feet of the manager.
  15. He looks to be some footballer. Please, please stay fit you beautiful man.
  16. I just saw the WHU result. How did they play? Have the wheels fallen off there or is this just a blip?
  17. Now they’re walking hand in hand, working together, not head to head, against each other. I’d hate to see them go toe to toe. That’d be bad for everyone. Thankfully, they had a heart to heart, spoke soul to soul, and feel good about things now. Our next two games are back to back. I hope we fight tooth and nail. I’m done. I hate idioms.
