  1. This post went left so quickly I nearly spat my tea out while reading it
  2. Some great gallows humour in the Holte that day celebrating as though we'd won the league when El Ghazi's penalty went in.
  3. "Can't defend" yet is amongst the best left backs (in some stats the best) in all of Europe for things such as tackling and aerial battles. Interesting.
  4. This is where I'm at too. The likes of Kessie, Zakaria etc are the kind of players where I've been thinking I'd love to sign them but there's a fat chance of it being realistic, but I would have said the same about both Coutinho and Digne and yet here we are. Specifically Kessie would still be a huge long shot mind, he's a key player for a Champions League qualifying team that is weighing up all kinds of interest from around Europe. I do trust though that whatever incoming there is in that position will be a bit of a statement nonetheless.
  5. Strange move for Everton you feel considering they're around our level at the moment yet El Ghazi is evidently a player we feel we're moving beyond the level of. You'd think he'd be a handy signing for a Norwich or Watford type of team. Regardless, wish him all the best. He's had some massive moments over the last few seasons and for all the stick he's gotten has really stepped up in some big moments, just really lacks any kind of consistency in general play to realistically nail a place down in even a middling Premier League side. Has always come across as a great guy and have we had a better penalty taker than him?
  6. Christ have NSWE made transfer windows fun again.
  7. I've gone from wanting this to happen because it'll be fun while also feeling resigned that it won't work out one way or the other, to it being formally announced and allowing myself to become convinced that we're box office and this is a nailed on success story. If nothing else, we spurn quite a few decent shooting opportunities around the edge of the box (as much as I like all of them, McGinn, Buendia and Ramsey tend to get into great positions and generally come close without quite managing it) where his added quality could make all the difference now. Really is fine margins in this area of the table where it feels like anyone's game every week, so much to be said for having someone of this ability that can potentially separate you from that pack.
  8. Over the past year in his position he's in the top 5% in Europe for tackles won and also puts in high numbers for number of pressures made per 90. You must know some tenacious children in that case.
  9. Probably worth noting that not a single player on the pitch had more tackles + interceptions than him last night.
  10. How you know it probably wasn't Mings' fault is that it took a good 12 hours or so before anyone said it was in this thread rather than the usual time of when the ball is still travelling toward the goal.
  11. I like Targett and find the amount of hammering he's taking on social media at the moment a bit uncomfortable, I know it's easy to pass it off as "only social media" but it's a bit gross that nearly every time we (and pretty much every other team, mind) lose a game there has to be someone singled out for heaps of abuse, especially given how big of a deal the El Ghazi situation became previously. He seems a nice guy whose confidence would really take a hit from this sort of thing. Saying that, when games like last night happen you can see why Gerrard is looking for reinforcements in that area. Targett's improvements are there to see but he just isn't able to get up and down the line quickly enough. There were several times we broke down the centre-left channel and Targett was 10-15 yards behind the play when you'd expect a modern-day full back to be flying down the line providing the overlap, it killed more than one dangerous attack and showed up how necessary it is to be able to do so in this system.

    Ezri Konsa

I'm with you, to be honest I was just posting because there was some debate over it and I think the guy that runs that account usually has quite good and insightful takes so thought it was worth sharing. Considering the quality of the ball in and how perfectly it matched McTominay's run, if anyone in the box had managed to prevent the goal we'd be lauding how fantastically it was defended, so I think it's harsh to be too hyper-critical of anyone in that situation even though that's generally what people look to do when a goal is conceded. Only issue for me is as you say is Konsa himself acted in that way when if anyone there had the opportunity to deal with it and failed to it was him. Wasn't really a fan of that.
  13. Thought we played well but lacked quality (and luck) in important moments, felt quite typically Villa that. Coutinho and Digne probably would've been game changers so at least there's that to look forward to.

    Matty Cash

I like him despite his inconsistencies but my god he was painful at times in the second half.

    Ezri Konsa

Yeah, strange behaviour. Mings is with Varane and the ball is crossed over both of them, Konsa has full view of McTominay's run but reacts too late and proceeds to have a go at Mings about it.
  16. Thought it was harsh to take him off, was great again and probably the only one that looked capable of creating anything that wasn't from a United error.
  17. I mean, even if what you've said here is true...how is that the equivalent of joking about a man who died in a road accident?
  18. Brilliant from Mings there. And shite from Rashford, mind.
  19. I mean for all of the general negativity here we've had far more chances on the whole. No idea how there hasn't been an equaliser yet.
  20. When we broke there and the ball came to Luiz in midfield Targett was about 20 yards behind the play. He NEEDS to be busting a lung getting forward there Buendia has been more than encouraging though! (Or Boo-en-dia according to the commentator)
  21. I think in terms of pure crossing technique it is, obviously if you're talking as an all-rounder then that is a different discussion. He's had his moments with some great final balls but too often it's completely skewed or the wrong decision entirely is made.
  22. Fan of Matty Cash but his end product is hurting my soul at times this season. The ability is there but his decision making can be so off.
  23. Thought that. Mings is marking Varane in front of him, Konsa is behind him, marking nobody and has full view of McTominay making the run, doesn't react and then moans at Mings when it's nodded in.
