  1. Reasonable result but really didn't play today ..... QPR were woeful and the three points were there for the taking. Gave away possession too easily, not tight enough in midfield until the changes were made and, once again, were way too narrow with no wide-men and, therefore, no easy outlet ball ..... so we gave it away ! Beat Stoke and we've taken 7 from 9 in these key games and I'll take that but we'll need to play a lot better than we did today.
  2. Bent is not a Lambert sort of player ..... he simply doesn't do enough over ninety minutes so there is absolutely no way that he will stay here in January and I have to admit that he also isn't my sort of player either. I recognise that he will convert a lot of chances in close and that is ideal for some teams but it doesn't really offer us a whole lot and that's been proven many times over. Give PL the money for his sale and I'm totally convinced he will spend it wisely and give us a far better squad than we currently have. Bent was massively over-priced and remains massively over-rated ..... there is real talent out there at a fraction of Bent's price and wages as Bentekkers has proved.
  3. There most definitely is an issue but if PL reveals all then Bent's potential transfer fee will drop and we lose out !
  4. ..... or maybe you are just getting it wrong ? Its all about opinions at the end of the day but yours is as extreme and inappropriate as those you criticize. Its a young team, lacking in a little confidence but with a lot of potential. Nobody expects Westwood to be a premiership A-lister yet but - given where he was just a few months ago - he is making massive strides towards becoming a top drawer midfielder and i agree with the majority here as well as most TV pundits and newspaper hacks that he played very well.
  5. When you play the top sides, they give you time on the ball to play but the strugglers - like Reading - play you tight and aggressively so this was never going to be a night of free flowing football. The win was everything and its another clean sheet so I'll take that. Like to see us play with more width - we are playing all of our football in the central strip and that helps the cloggers shut us down. Would also like to see some variation in partners for Benteke as Gabby looks a poor version of what we once had and Weimann is still well short of where he needs to be ..... maybe time to give Bent a run out alongside Benteke. Also agree that Ireland needs to start as he has the midfield quality that we lack when he's on the bench.
  6. According to R5 .......... ----------------Guzan-------------- Lowton -- Vlaar -- McGrath --Lichaj ----------El Ahmadi -------------- Ireland ------------Cowans------- Benteke----------Shaw-------- -----------Withe---------------------
  7. I thought spouting shite was more of an issue !!!
  8. He only creates chances by doing naff all while a key defender marks him so I guess he's doing a job there but couldn't we just get a cardboard cut out and move it every few minutes ? Scoring goals ? Mmmmmm ....... 99% of his goals are tap-ins that my gran could score and she died years ago. Get him outside the six yard box, give him a 50/50, give him anything above knee-height, ask him to hold the ball up for one second or lay it off to a player in broadly similar colours and he is useless in my opinion. NOT a team player, too "I am" and massively over-rated !
  9. So how many games do we have to give Bent before he finds his "rhythm" and what division will we be in by then ? Whatever his beef is, I'm getting totally fed up of his loose mouth with the press and, apart from the fact that I think he's the worst striker we've had since David Geddes, I'd get rid of him to anybody who wants him as soon as possible. Benteke may need time but he will prove his worth ...... Bent has had his chance and shown that he's a one-trick pony and that trick is pretty crap now !
  10. That has to be the most bizarre post I've ever seen on here !!! Bent has been absolutely average since he joined Villa and converting occasional chances from under the crossbar does not make him standout. As for scoring from nothing ..... you must be having a laugh ! He does nothing outside of the six yard box - he is slow, poor in the air, has no strength in holding up the ball and never scores from distance ...... he just converts easy chances that a 12-year old would convert. Get rid in January unless he is going to wake up, stop sulking, stop with the big "I am" and actually change his game so that he adds some genuine value.
  11. Because he isn't our best player nor even close to being our best player !!!
  12. If Benteke is a carthorse then Bent and Gabby are the excrement dropping behind him because they offer consisantly less than the young lad. Benteke is a far better target man who makes the runs, holds the ball up and passes well ..... Bent gets no tick for any of those. The missed header would have been worrying if he ballooned it high or deflected it well wide but he met it very sweetly and it was literally six inches away from being a superb finish so give him time. He's an exciting talent who will only get better and you can't apply that tag to any of our other forwards at the moment !
  13. Whatever the situation, Bent shouldn't be spouting off to the media because that is just all "I am" !!! Bent's performances this season have been poor and if PL wants to try something different then that's his call and Bent is not owed some major attention in explaining the decision ..... he's just a player like all the rest.
  14. Too many players had off-days yesterday and the manager got it wrong tactically in the second half and I would be very worried ..... if I hadn't seen the Newcastle and Swansea performances. If I was to make a change it would be to lose Bent in favour of Gabby or Weimann because he just doesn't do enough outside of the six yard box. He lacks pace, lacks strength, lacks aerial prowess and I just don't believe he wants it badly enough.
  15. Love this guy and he WILL be a legend here ..... mark my words !
  16. We either need a strong target man who can hold up the ball as well as win aerial duals OR a lively Defoe type who will take on defenders and get them on the back foot ...... in Bent we have somebody who is awful at both roles !!!
  17. Give Holman time because he WILL be a star here. He is still adjusting to the pace but he has a fantastic engine and will score a lot of goals from midfield ..... keep the faith with this one !
  18. Bent isn't a bad player - he's just the WRONG player for us. The only thing that Bent scores above mediocre marks on is conversion of chances in and around the six yard box. He has to be the worst target man in the top two divisions, he has no physical presence, he is weak on the deck and lacks pace too. In a team that works the flanks and delivers a lot of quality into the box, he's a 30 goals a season man but that is not Villa. We would do better with more versatile forwards who have pace and who are physically strong enough to hold the ball up and draw the midfielders into the game. Sell Bent and use the money for the likes of Defoe and maybe one other with the loose change !
  19. Given 5 - little to do Baker 4 - looked out of place, which he was Vlaar 6 - did his bit but surrounded by a lack of quality Clark 5 - tough asignment but disappointing for me Lowton 5 - really needs to get down the flanks and support more Ireland 5 - started well but faded as WHU got physical El Ahmadi 6 - 5 for first ten minutes, 1 for rest - needs to do more Delph 4 - full of bad habits - way too negative - RUN FFS !!! N'Zogbia 3 - poor again, must be running out of time now Holman 6 - honest worker, always looking to shoot, ran out of steam Bent 2 - didn't get much service but offered no variety - get rid now ! Keep faith with the manager but we need a couple of experienced heads in there and we really need to call time very soon now on the likes of NZogbia and Bent ..... they are just not good enough.
  20. Too early for a "Lambert Out" thread ?!!!!
  21. Decent lively performance with a bit of a mixed up line-up due to absences ! Ireland was stand-out for most of his time on the pitch - kept it neat and simple and was absolutely everywhere. CNZ looked devastating at times and his pace destroyed the opposition but the minute he approached goal, he seemed to freak out and either pull away or make a dumb pass ..... he needs the confidence to shoot more as he looks good up to the end product. Johnson was lively but gave the ball away too often for me - a little sloppy with his passing. After the break and inevitable subs, Holman looked the business - he'll be a VP hero on this showing with his non-stop running and battling as well as an eye for goal. Fonz looked good but didn't have Premiership marking so was in his element. Really impressed with young Burke (I think thats who it was !), who looked very tricky on the ball. Easy win, plenty of creativity but we need to get the back four settled asap.
  22. Cross Keys is first on left after crossing over railway bridge - big pub but a mile to walk to ground - Boys Head then appears on right but would avoid that as it has a bit of a reputation - the Cherry Tree is then on left just before going under railway bridge and is five minutes from ground so go there. Best car park is on left IMMEDIATELY after passing under railway bridge - you can walk through underpass from that car park right up to the ground.
  23. Just been down to the ticket/box office in Peterborough and they are adamant that you will be able to access the away block seats tonight but you will need to pay cash on the door - plenty of seats, no need to advance book, just pay on the door.
