That Ings move sounds like clickbait on the surface, but it also wouldn't surprise me if he was one of those players that fell into the category Smith likes of 'if something becomes available we will make a bid'. By that I mean we probably had no plans to try and sign Ings at all, but as he's rejected a new contract and looks to be moving, maybe we've decided 'actually this is worth a look'. That said I'd still be shocked if our name being linked is anything more than paper talk, especially when midfield seesm to be our priority currently.

True, but the delays in this seem to be coming from Arsenal not us. It seems more likely that we want him in and he's the top target for the position and because there's a chance it'll happen, we haven't moved on to another option yet. If Arsenal had flat out told us there was no deal to be done, we wouldn't still be loitering with intent.

He had a remarkable stat which was to only score goals against the three teams that were relegated. He scored against Bournemouth, Norwich and Watford, but no one else.

This whole Barcelona thing is ridiculous, they look finished as a club now. I hope Lange is looking at if there's any bargains to be hand (I do mean ones that won't explode our wage budget too, like the Leeds and Wolves signing, I'm not suggesting the likes of Coutinho!)

Yeah that makes sense, but currently it doesn't look like either are going anywhere. Like all things in football that could easily change though. It'll be interesting to see who is in there for the first game (if no new centre mids sign) because Luiz is going to be unavailable due to the Olympics.

Preece said we like Romeu I think so it's not impossible, but I think we're going to spend the majority on attacking reinforcements, and a replacement for Engels and then see where we are. Who knows though, only the management team, hence why there's so many rumours, and most are probably baseless.

I really can't see us spending anything on a DM, I don't think Smith wants or needs one. Our defensive record playing without one, and even when using Nakamba was fine. I think this window is all about increasing the creativity.

In that case I rescind my cynicism lol. I'm just sick of seeing constant posts about him being a complete waste of space when that seems unjustified. As you said in your quoted post, it's not his fault he was picked.

I mean I understand Barkleys form fell off a cliff after his injury and the Covid shutdown, but do people really think he was absolutely useless during his entire time at the club? He was a big part of the 7-2 win over Liverpool, scored the winner at Leicester, nabbed an assist away at Arsenal and scored the winner at Southampton. That's 6 to arguably 12 points we may not have secured without him. If a traffic cone can secure us more points then that then we need to switch tactics immediately.

I think it'd be more like this too. All three would probably have a defined starting postion, but they'd be trusted to communicate and move around at will, which would be a nightmare to defend against, and would increase the service to Watkins dramatically.

I think Kendrick did, until he burned his bridges with them over criticising a manager. I can't remember whicgh manager, it may even have been O'Neill but I'm sure I remember him previously having a legitimate in at the club and that paper would get actual exclusives, but since they cut him out everything from the Mail is just pure guesswork or clickbait sensationalism.
