  1. LOL. As bad as the Catholic Churchs track record is (and it is), plenty of other Christian sects have as bloody and discriminatory a record as the RCC. Anyway, seeing as ye Brit Taxpayers seemingly have no problem on spending 10s of millions every year to subsidise the head of the Anglican Church, whats 12m to ye to throw a party for the head of the UKs 2nd largest religion?.
  2. Probably said already but Houllier had the right idea about that prick Ginola, that alone endears me to him.
  3. Excellent read, but having only read it after todays developments it does have a rather more ominous tone to it then perhaps intended.
  4. Get Carter for me, so so bleak.
  5. Great news for Villa with Fabregas on his way, Arsenal to be next seasons Liverpool hopefully.
  6. Carew would want to cop on and forget the fancy shit Edit scratch that c'mon the big man! UTV!
  7. http://tinyurl.com/qugzq9 I never realised this Yeung character was in fact a Walter Mitty type. rather i believed he was just a dodgy businessman .
  8. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/aug/10/newcastle-united-mike-ashley-takeover-news It just gets better and better!
  9. Before anything else happens there needs to be a merger between the LoI & IFAP. If they can sort out the politics then it should go ahead as it makes no sense for there to be 2 seperate leagues on a small island. Beyond that, i think there is little room for manouevre. I might be the only one who thinks the LoI gets decent crowds as it is. Irish clubs, just like everywhere else, are vulnerable to charlatan owners like the 2 clubs mentioned in the previous thread. Droghedas owners who were as much property speculators as club owners & Ramblers who borrowed a fortune just to make it back to the big time for 1 season.
  10. Fairplay to UKIP, after the train wreck that was Rober Kilroy Silk they are now poised to do well when i assumed they were going to implode. Still nasty right wingers though. To stay on topic i'll be voting 1.Indo 2.Labour 3. Green 4. SF in the Irish local & Euros. But don't get me wrong, all politicians are words removed.
  11. I have family ties to Brum the city and to following the Villa, but i am definitely a foreigner following Villa. It means i can't go to as many games as i'd like to but heading to VP is pretty much like a religious experience for me like a Muslim going to a colder Mecca, on Train you're weary after long trip to/from airport, then you glance out the window and VP shimmies into view and the goosebumps emerge. I follow my local LoI teams and i go to games in the summer time with my mates, but its just not the same as following Villa, i've seen championships won and lost in front of me following City and Ramblers but its just not that important. But If Villa do the unthinkable and win the league or anything i'd be delirious and my head would explode and i would go drinking. Perhaps its because i only started going to LoI games when i was teenager, but i've been bought up following Villa(no choice in the matter) so thats why i spend my money/time/concentration on them rather then on a LoI team. I think Villas Irish support is pretty decent, besides Man Utd/Pool/Celtic and perhaps Arse i don't think any other club in the PL is as popular as Villa, hopefully a new generation of fans will emerge over here inspired by this teams potential success and not because MON buys a bunch of useless occasional Irish internationals funded by Irish property barons ala SundIreland.
  12. Ireland isn't crap its just the Pols and the big cheeses in media and business that annoy. I suppose i like it its ok. i've been coming and going from Brum a while now, and comparing to there i think in Ireland we're more nervy about the recession for obvious reasons.
  13. I think Barry will be a great signing for Liverpool, Alonso only cuts the mustard in Europe, hes a bench warmer for them in the PL, Rafa is going to play Masch & Barry as his 2 holding players. But i think this transfer is a blessing in disguise for Villa, with that £15m maybe MON can buy a CM who can do what Barry does AND score some goals from open play and not miss a lot of penalties.
  14. Paul McGrath = God Olof Mellberg = Pagan Viking God of Beards
  15. There is an inevitability that Barry will have the effect that Carricks leaving of Spurs. Sure they had Berbatov, but that glaring hole in midfield has never been filled, if they had kept Carrick they might have got that 4th spot.
