Never been a fan of Southgate as manager but unless there is an obvious replacement (Tuchel, Poch, whoever) it makes sense to keep him in for the Euros. Fair play to Gareth and the team because they played very well against France and it's not a given that any old replacement will instantly see us improve further.
Here's a crazy idea. What if they were instructed, after a fairly decent break, to take it easy to avoid any unwanted injuries? Is that really so hard to consider? The evening was about Whittingham, not Villa or Cardiff.
One thing is for sure that regardless of what happens I feel a hell of a lot more confident right now that I ever did under Gerrard. That's progression.
The officiating has been frustrating but we're cutting it very close and are causing a lot of these problems ourselves by trying to play it out of the back. We really need the break to work on this tactic because the players look very uncomfortable. I'd be happy with a draw here.
