  1. Ajax My Dutch nan was a fan and would always watch them on TV. She would have watched the golden age of the late 60s / early 70s with Cruyff leading the way. I wish my local team, Oxford United, well, but ultimately their results don't affect my weekend like Villa's do. I'd be very pleased to see them get promoted this season but if they got relegated, I wouldn't lose sleep over it...
  2. More importantly, a clean sheet for van Domselaar. Did I mention that we should definitely sign Esmee Brugts? She scored one of the goals of the tournament so far, then scored the same goal a second time.
  3. Found that out the messy way when topping up the gearbox oil in the Mustang...
  4. AVWFC season tickets are only £1.50 more expensive than my dentist checkup this morning
  5. Still no word on wether Lehmann has re-signed as I'm sure her contract was up? Though she was sharing the news about the season tickets going up for renewal / sale on Instagram so I'm taking that as a hopeful sign.
  6. That's good news, I'd hate to sit so far away from the pitch with an athletics track in the way
  7. As a Netherlands supporter, this is bad news to me.
  8. A friend at my previous job would say "Up The Spurs" instead of 'bye'
  9. Drove past the Google Street View car the other day. It's on!
  10. I like the elements of the badge, it's pretty much what I voted for, but it doesn't look or feel right... I wouldn't write it off, it's just that it could have gone back to the drawing board.
  11. If we could sign another Dutch player, I'd go for Esmee Brugts of PSV. She's the future of the Netherlands national team.
  12. This is a statement signing if you ask me. I know Netherlands didn't have a great Euro 2022 but I think van Domeslaar was our stand out player. Hampton is a brilliant goalkeeper and I wasn't sure how we'd replace her. This is how!
  13. I managed to get three signatures on a shirt in the few games I went to this season. Rabjohn, Hampton and Pacheco. Can we please chain Pacheco down?!
  14. I'm really pleased to see this and other measrures Villa as a whole are taking on mental health. AVWFC have, in a way, helped me. I'm going a little off topic here but for years now I've just lived with a kind of bearable misery, I know and accept that life for me is never going to be happy and fulfilling, of course there are great moments here and there but the other 99% of the time is just passing the time. In the past 6 months I've had something that gave me hope and it got crushed, which has plunged me right back down and now I need to work back up to that bearable level. But it was in January that I thought to myself, "I've seen Netherlands men and women's teams play, I've seen Ajax men and women's teams play but I've only seen Villa men's team play... maybe I'll go to a game to give me some distraction" so I had a choice, go to see the game against Arsenal in the Conti Cup, or Fylde in the FA cup. I decided to go to the Arsenal game as I live about the same distance from Meadow Park as I do the Bescott Stadium. I completely underestimated how cold it would be standing outside on a January evening and dressed fairly light. By half time I was so cold I was seriously considering going home, I was stiffening up everywhere but I decided to stay. We lost 3-0 but we played alright. Thankfully I thawed out during the drive home and when I got home I realised that for the past 5 hours of driving and watching the match, I had enjoyed the drive and enjoyed the match. 5 hours of not thinking how miserable my life feels but instead thinking of how great a player Kenza Dali is. So I decided to go again. This time an unlucky draw with Brighton at home, but it gave me the same kind of feeling, but also with the thought "I was to see a win!" so I went to the next game, which was away to Brighton and we won 6-2 with Nobbs scoring our goal of the season. Since January, I've been to 9 games and I looked forward to each one of them, not just as a chance to see Villa but also as a mental health break, a few precious hours every week or so when my mind could take a break from my life. Sitting in the front row at the Bescott on a damp winter day, smelling that pitch, bringing back the feelings of when I'd actually go out and play football and enjoy life. Watching a team of players who are probably only earning about as much as a regular person working a regular job and thinking, they're in this for the football. It really draws you in. In a way, I feel like when I'm giving Villa my support, they are giving me theirs. Maybe it all sounds a little pretentious but that's what following AVWFC means for me.
  15. Still got my 1997/98 home shirt
  16. I'm not sure how I'm going to top this. Perhaps I'll get caught on Google Earth one day?
  17. Safe standing stand but we got told off for standing...
  18. Surely a piece of reinforced glass that size would be realtively cheap from a glass supplier?
  19. I like The Bescot, I can always get parked after a 2 hour drive
  20. Being half Dutch I've always followed the Netherlands rather than England and that goes for the women's team too and I have to say that's what aways struck me about Weigman's selection, I don't think many newer, younger players were brought in once a core was established. She's won back to back European Championships, got to a World Cup final in between and I can see England winning the World Cup under her leadership so who's to say that approach doesn't work, especially when it creates such great team cohesion but it's a slippery slope once a few players start to lose form, pick up an injury or retire. Same problem the men's national team have always had.
  21. Well done to them for filling Wembley but I will never understand paying to go to a wrestling or boxing or MMA event where for most of the seats you're having to watch on a screen anyway as you're too far away from the ring.
