  1. Whoah that's cheap! Is that an iPhone 4 or lower?
  2. I can't see that anywhere, can you put it in a simple comparison? Sorry I've gotten a bit confused. Closest match I could find with T-Mobile was the Galaxy S is free phone, £35/month, 1200 mins compared the iPhone 4 at £219 phone, £35/month, 600 mins.
  3. Gingerlad asked for a comparison of the TCO of an iPhone against an Android phone. That's what I provided. Question though, when you compared the two, the iphone was better. was it 6.3 times better? Will it still be in 18 months time? That's the thing though, is an iPhone (any) really better than a San Francisco? Sure the hardware will be much better but to me, the extra power and flexibility of Android still makes it a better phone.
  4. Yep you're right. Although I think of my SGS as more of a tablet. I moved all the shortcuts around this morning, tidied the screen up a bit and my mate said 'that's nice - but where's the phone icon?'. I use it so much as a tablet and so little as a phone that I'd forgotten to put it there.
  5. Customising in what way? What cant you do on the iPhone? Really? Deep breath (and you may have to correct me on a few of these as it seems iOS 4 has sorted some stuff out) Change the launcher, just install from the market. The input method (e.g. you can use any bluetooth HID, install any different keyboard you want etc.) Widgets Live wallpapers Any apps from anywhere (download from a web site and install the APK as you would an exe in Windows) Separate desktop and app menu. Built-in wifi / bluetook tethering (yes it is a big deal) GPS turn by turn nav Integrated search with locations, nav, dialer, contacts etc. External SD Non-reliance on iTunes SD as removable drive No activation I could go on. Let me know if you want more.
  6. Happy with it? It's the phone I should have really, as the natural evolution of the G1 which was the best phone around for a long time. I played with one of these the other day. I was really impressed with the live wallpaper performance. I couldn't bother it with pinch-scrolling, swipe scrolling, opening and closing the app drawer etc. at any time. The guy did have it overclocked to a claimed 1.7Ghz but even if it was running at that, it will be the same as the SGS 2Ghz overclock - the phone thinks it's running at that speed but is actually running at normal speed but thinks time is running slower. It was quite amusing when they realised. Only problem was it was a bit heavy, but then any phone feels heavy to me these days. Screen was the same as the Desire i.e. not very impressive I'm afraid. But the linpack and Quadrant scores from these new Snapdragons are brilliant. I think we've finally settled which is better (for JIT at least) out of Hummingbird and Snapdragon.
  7. The S2 should be out in Feb. That's the only one that's fairly definite at the moment.
  8. No 5 in midfield! It won't work against a good passing team and will just end up giving them more space.
  9. I actually think we'll play 4-4-2 and do very well. It will be hard, but a win is certainly possible. If we play this and press them as high up the pitch as possible we should win: Friedel Young Collins Dunne Warnock Young Clark Bannan Downing Agbonlahor Carew 1. Settled back 4. Warnock had a bollocking for his stupidness last weekened. 2. Downing and Ashley both cover a lot of ground so will sit slightly deeper infield to be able to run out into the channels but provide a pass for CM. Don't hug the touchline, leave to space to run into. 3. If we play 3 in the middle we're likely to make it too congested for our own good. Midfield battles are lost on movement, not numbers. 4. Having Carew means we have an option for crosses even when Gabby drops deep with his back to goal. 5. Get Gabby and Carew to press as high up the pitch as possible. Don't give their defenders time to settle. 6. Wingers have to run at their full-backs as much as possible to get the beating of them. Get to the byline for pull-backs as much as possible. 7. If we sit back, they'll pass through us. We can't let them get near our box by going hell for leather right from the off and not giving them an inch anywhere. 8. DON'T WASTE FCKING POSSESSION. Anyone going to the game - please don't get on the players' backs when they go backwards to keep possession, it's exactly what they should do. Booing just makes them hoof it. would be my tactics
  10. I wonder if the Blackburn players like playing for the modern Wimbledon?
  11. Oh God, it's this referee. He's utterly awful. Just looks like some spoilt kid. What a ball from Ireland!
  12. Nope, you're stuck unless you buy them from iTunes. Welcome to Apple. That will be because it's only using cell location. I don't think on an iPhone you can force GPS location like you can on Android. Also I don't think they do WiFi access point location, which Android does. Welcome to Apple. Sorry.
  13. You are right CV I will immediately sell my Iphone 4 and buy an Android handset as I will not stand for a 2nd rate mobile internet experience. Well at least you've finally come to your senses! I think this topic is worthy of one of my annual blog posts. I'll post a link in a bit if anyone can be bothered to read it.
  14. Yeah I doubt we'll ever see Gingerbread on the i9000. It's too much work for Samsung for very little return. The best hope is CyanogenMod, they'll get a decent Gingerbread release as soon as they've managed to hack open a few drivers. Otherwise I'll definitely be getting a Nexus S. I hate Touchwiz and really just want pure AOSP. Apparently the Nexus S will be to the Galaxy S2 what the Nexus One is to the HTC Desire. NFC is the most exciting part I think.
  15. If we can keep hold of them both, Bannan and Delph should be one of the most complete midfields we've had for a long time.
  16. Install AppBrain from the market. Have a look at my list: http://www.appbrain.com/user/dirk1978/apps-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s Pick what you like and tick stuff to add to your own list. Open AppBrain on your phone and choose to sync. Ask your friends who have Android to share their AppBrain lists and choose apps from their list. I recommend: Angry Birds, Official eBay, Torque, SpeedX, Tasker, LauncherPro, ADW.Launcher, Sky Map, YouTube, AmazonMP3, Movies, Quadrant, Tweetdeck, Winamp, Sky Remote Record, Rainy Days, Kindle, IMDB, Premier League Buddy, Google Earth, Chrome to Phone, Air Control
  17. Anyone wanna buy a Galaxy S i9000?
  18. Yep, I was there and I'm wondering why Bannan didn't get more praise on here, he was excellent. It was like watching Stan Petrov but he could spread a 60 yard ball onto someone's toe.
  19. Even when he's not playing well, Ashley Young can win a game single-handedly.
  20. I think we will romp home. We've been playing well for a while and being wasteful with chances so we should get enough tonight to start putting them away. My team: Friedel Young Collins Dunne Warnock Clark Albrighton Downing Young Bannan Delfouneso
  21. I'm on the last row of the North with 3 non-believers tonight. Do you reckon I'll be able to find 4 better seat nearer the front once we're in?
  22. This article is utterly hilarious Famous eWeek Fanboy Rant The comments make for some humour too.
