    I’d love us to go for a Wirtz or Simons but that doesn’t seem to be the way Emery and Monchi work. I think we need a couple of players to give some flexibility tactically and also provide cover if needed. Forgoing the GK situation, which I think will be rectified in the Summer I think we need (worst case scenario). Versatile CM that can cover both Luiz and Kamara (I would ideally like two players for this). A right footed wide man/inside forward that can be an option on the left with Ramsey but can also cover up front if needed. A Chambers esque (but better) RB that can cover DM and CB if required. Those three would give us loads of tactical flexibility and cover with us then bringing in a new attacking RB in the summer (Frimpong perhaps) and a new GK.

    We definitely need cover for Luiz and Kamara though, whether that’s one player or two I’d make that a higher priority than any other position, even RB.

    An out and out striker for Watkins, no chance in January. A LW/LM that’s equally good up top would be a good option though and give us positional and personnel flexibility moving forward. Amine Gouiri would be my shout as his output on the left and as a striker are both equally as good. He scored 15 odd league goals last season or something.

    I’d like us to go for a CM and DM in Jan as an injury to either Luiz or Kamara and we’re a different animal. The pair of them make us tick in the middle and to have someone of equal levels to come in would make a world of difference. Someone like Guido Rodriquez or Arthur Vermeeren (very young though) for Kamara and perhaps van den Boomen, Kenneth Taylor, Joey Veerman or Teun Koopmeiners for Luiz. Save the ST, GK and RB for the Summer.

    Emi’s compatriot Walter Benitez at PSV would be a good shout for an Olsen upgrade. Not sure he’d want to be no2 though, which I guess is always going to be the issue.

    Said it for ages but their striker Karim Konate would be a decent young player to bring in.

    Performances like that will drive revenue, we’re more attractive to partners, sponsors, tv, etc. I’d be surprised if the club didn’t give Emery at least a couple of new players in January as a show of faith gesture as he’s working wonders at present. will be an exciting window and rest of the season.

    Isn’t Durans contract up in 2024? Perhaps that’s what the dummy spitting out was all about a few weeks back, agent talks on a new contract not going well.

    Nico Williams release clause is 47m (allegedly). That’s still doable if Emery’s keen.

    I think we’ll give both City and Arsenal a good game, with us perhaps getting something out of Arsenal. With the exception of Liverpool Emery has a good record against the top sides.

    I’d like us to box a bit clever. Bin off Donk and Chambers and get someone in that can cover DM/CB/RB well (Geertruida). Even if we pay them 75k we’d be quids in as Donk and Chambers are on about 140k combined.

    If we’ve still got good links with Jorge Mendes then I’d like to see us try for Joao Neves at Benfica. Also a random one for comp/cover for Dougie would be Kenneth Taylor at Ajax. Still think Geertruida at Feyenoord would be a shrewd investment as well, defensive fullback, CB and can cover DM too. A Chambers on steroids.

    For Watkins cover/comp I’d love us to go for Gimenez at Feyenoord but he might be on Tottenhams radar. Failing that Serhou Guirassy at Stuttgart is a good shout, strong, agile and a decent scoring record across his career. At 27 he might be ok playing second fiddle to Ollie compared to Gimenez.

    I think if we start beating the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, etc the players will start to believe as well, which is a very tasty prospect with Emery at the helm.

    I think Dougie and Kamara are key to our successes, without him our midfield is loads weaker. He makes us tick. We need him long term to get to where we want to get to.

    If we’re looking at Bailey being comp/cover for Diaby then you could argue we’re short on Watkins cover so could see another coming in there. Gimenez at Feyenoord would be a good one I’d also like us to go for a similar player to Xavi Simons (out of our reach unfortunately), someone who can play across the deeper forward positions.

    Still early days for them, Philogene is doing great at the moment but he was unique in the fact he wanted first team football so we were kind of backed into a corner. A. Ramsey will come good at Burnley but has been injured. Jury’s out on Archer but he’s playing for a team that is getting hammered week in, week out so you can hardly blame him for not ‘lighting it up’ as of yet. I think it’ll be 18-24 months before we see any of them return.
