  1. I think we’ll keep our powder dry on a striker this year and go big next year, on who though I have absolutely no idea. As for Bert, I like him as a player, I just think he’s a luxury and we don’t have the quality in midfield to cover for him. It’s nothing personal on him but I think as a football club we’ve tended to keep hold of our fringe players far longer than needed. If you don’t improve constantly in football you get left behind. For me at the moment it’s about us making that next step, we did it with Digne/Target, a quality jump, that pushed our starter to the bench. We need to do it with McGinn too in CM, he himself has alluded to it in interviews, saying if you don’t perform, the club will replace you. These small incremental improvements are what will push us up the league. We all see the 2 or 3 years ago squad lists for matches and the squad is hugely different. In another three years time, how many of the current first team will still be in it I wonder.
  2. Agreed, for me he’s a wasted place in the squad, brilliant in flashes but he’s so inconsistent. He’d be good in a team that can cover his half arsedness but for us he’s as much a liability when he plays as he is an opposition threat. For me his place would be better suited to an up and coming young player like Cherki (yes, I really want us to sign Cherki ) I have to admit he’s amusing in the winter months though when he wears about 20 snoods in the training pics. Not sure we’d be able to shift him on though even if we wanted to.
  3. I’m basing this on a few assumptions Chuk is gone, Sanson as well, Kamara is a nailed on starter and that we’ll most likely use a formation that has 3 CM/CDMs in there. With above in mind and the fact that we will most probably need a player (or two) that are a CM/CDM hybrids below are a few options. I’d rather we went big on an established CM/CDM and then a younger CDM/CM option personally. This would give us a really nice mix of personnel for the middle of the park. Anyhow, options below CM/CDM Laimer (25), Tielemans (25), Hojbjerg (26), Dahoud (26), M. Nunes (23), Y. Fofana (23), K. Kone (21), N. Gonzalez (20) CDM/CM Grillitsch (26), Sangare (24), Koopmeiners (24), E. Alvarez (24), Zubimendi (23), M. Camara (22), K. Thuram (21), Danilo (21) Thoughts?
  4. Depends how hands on he and his partner are with the little one. I guess you can buy whatever when he’s on what he’s on but he seems like a family orientated type of bloke so perhaps the ‘nanny’ might not have happened. I always remember the one bit of advice I got before my daughter was born, ‘get some sleep’. I laughed it off at the time, only bit of advice I should have listened to
  5. I’m actually more excited about A. Ramsey than Carney. He seems intelligent, humble and hard working and also extremely talented. For me Carney’s being misrepresented, he’ll go on to have a great career as he’s a real talent. He’s a kid at the end of the day, it’s a shame he’s not gonna stay and grow with Villa but I don’t wish him any ill. There’s been plenty of young talent we’ve taken off other teams, it’s just football, you win some, you lose some.
  6. Not singling you out bud but he did have his first child last year as well and anyone who’s had kids will tell you, they’re knackering. I remember in one of the vids from when the players returned for preseason testing you can he Ollie talking to Sanson and saying something like ‘it’s different when you have kids’. I think for where we are now he’s a decent striker, for where we want to go, perhaps not.
  7. As a counteracting team I’d like to see 4312 with the full backs sitting back a bit Martinez Cash Konsa. Carlos. Digne Kamara Luiz/THURAM. McGinn Buendia Bailey. Watkins Watkins did well on his own when we broke at times last year, albeit he had a brain fart most of the time but him and Bailey both have pace and can break and hold up play if needed down the channels. Both can cut in and score as well. Buendia behind them picking out the passes works too, see Baileys goal against Utd. Personally I was dreaming of us going 433 and spunking 85m on Nkunku this window and going Nkunku and Bailey either side of a decent striker. fantasy land I know but I get a bit depressed watching Gerrard flogging a dead duck within the Xmas tree formation, especially as it really weakens our midfield. Where we’ll see more of the ball I’d go 4231 Martinez Cash Konsa. Carlos. Digne THURAM/Luiz. Kamara Bailey. Buendia (Ramsey) Coutinho Watkins (mainly for this pressing)
  8. If we get a decent lower league draw in one of the cups I’d be interested to see him in a front three with Ings/Archer centre and JPB on the left. I wanted him to go loan for his defensive development as his attacking skill set is already there or thereabouts. Not sure I want him to go on loan anymore though.
  9. Mocked these up using the A and V theme (bored watching the 1st half against Utd)
  10. I’d love us to have a striker like Nkunku, not an out and out ST but more of a CF/SS hybrid that is good in and around the box and is clinical with the chances he gets. I know Nkunku has just signed an extension at Leipzig and will be off to Madrid or PSG next year but someone like that. As for the CM, some one with a bit of bite and can link up attack and defence to support JJ breaking forward. I know some of you will come back and say…..Nkunku is a CAM or winger. He’s a bit of a freak as he can play anywhere across the front 5 or 6 positions. Paqueta is similar, to a lesser degree.
  11. I would keep as is, but have Martinez/McGinn as vice captains, to cover cup games and the like as Mings and McGinn are at threat of being rotated and so won’t always play. Young shouldn’t be in the equation for me as he’s hardly (hopefully) going to play. Removing it from Mings will undoubtedly upset the group a bit and possibly undo what’s been achieved whilst away in Oz. Review next season as Mings will be pushing 30+ and we may end up going for an upgrade next Summer. Martinez can then take it on, or Another
  12. They should have just done last years white design and sold 1, 2 or 3 blue socks with it so people can get the desired blue they want after a couple of washes. It’s a bit ‘’meh’ for me, prefer the home
  13. Agreed on the Luke home, gutted I never bought one at the time
  14. He was starting to show some signs of life in the games leading up Burnley and during that game, until Ben Mee ruined him. He seems like a nice bloke so wish him well and hope he smashes it. Just out of interest has there ever been any legal claims against players for things like loss of future earnings? I only ask as you could argue Mee has wrecked his whole career.
  15. At present we’re a victim of the ‘what if’ scenario. We’ll only be able to move on certain targets if other things happen first. If Traore is sold, we’ll bring in an attacker (Kokcu or Cherki please). If Luiz signs a new deal and Sanson/Chuk bugger off we’ll bring in one or two CMs. It’s going to be a waiting game annoyingly. As for McGinn I’d like to see him rotated more. Not sure that will happen though
  16. It also sounds like you just thought bee heard him say it at school drop off
  17. What’s occurring? What’s he said then? Has he said ‘Kephren..son…don’t play for PSG, sign for the greatest team in the world….Aston Villa’
  18. Played there for the Eng U19 with Chuk and looked good and Kamara is way better than Chuk so would be a good option. I still say loan Tim out to QPR for a season and get in someone like Thuram as his progressive stats are great and he would be able to bridge the def/attack gap with his runs and Kamara with his progressive passing.
  19. I think for me the CM situation needs a player, like Kamara, who comes in and makes everyone one of us here go ‘it’s Kamara and ?’ as the first names on the team sheet. Our new CM needs to be that type of quality. At present there are endless debates on here about who starts and who doesn’t alongside Kamara. It would be great to be in a position where we’re all saying ‘who starts alongside Kamara and………….’ Also With the new 5 sub rules all of CMs are gonna get plenty of game time this season (hopefully improved by better draws early on in the cups as well). If Luiz is sold (I think we’ll keep him and use him as an 8), Sanson and Chuk leave I could see one or two CMs come in. I also think McGinn, depending on the opposition, could also cover Buendia/Coutinho in the No10 role, as he does for Scotland, so his mins could be boosted there also. It all depends if a quality CM is available and wants to come to us though
  20. Anyone notice the not so tactful wording used in Feeney’s interview, thought it was a message reinstating that if you warrant inclusion through hard work and graft you’ll be rewarded at Villa. A message to a certain person perhaps and to reiterate to the wider world that there is a path to the 1st team here.
  21. Saw a chant idea for him on Twitter this morning, apologies if posted already but……to the tune of the Stars Wars canteen music……Bouba, Bouba, Boubacar……Boubacar Kamara Either that or the muppets one…..manamonar i’ll get my coat
  22. Tried to do a simpler one, one colour for now but a coloured version would be easy to do, perhaps with gold or white border
  23. If Carney and Sanson leave I’d like to see two CMs come in, a starter and a back up CM/CDM I don’t think we’d get played through the middle in games if we could field a midfield three of Sangare Thuram and Kamara
