  1. He appears to be quite humble in that regard. The high performance podcast is a great listen and he outlines how he is constantly trying to fill the gaps in his managerial abilities by learning or with others that can do it better (Beale for example). However, he must be frustrated watching this team.
  2. Ok fair enough. I suspected as much. I don't think Luiz does enough to offer an option coming out from the back. He does well dropping into a back 3 but when in front of the back 2 he doesn't make himself available as much as I would like. I have been watching other 6's (in better teams) and the diamond between GK - CB - CB - CDM is the main route out. Once the ball goes to a fullback it is over.
  3. I admittedly haven't focused on this point to date but is Konsa really that bad or are teams pressing to ensure Mings ends up with the ball as he is likely to punt it back to them? Or could it be both?
  4. Bissouma maybe not (although I personally think he is better than Ndidi) but Phillips walks into the Leicester team.
  5. Interestingly we were operating like this for large portions of that first half against Tottenham and we looked good. Inevitably it failed in transition when we lost the ball or Mings just punted it into no one.
  6. Has been asked to do a lot and not much of it seems to be what comes naturally to him. Currently he doesn't look good enough.
  7. Dennis would be such a Smith era signing. From the look or the whispers around we are going to try and bolster the squad with much needed quality and not projects or future stars. We are too heavily weighed down with lower table players and 'potential'.
  8. I think he is stuck as the backup players aren't quite up for it and it risks too much disharmony within the squad to make too many changes. He is trying to get more out of what he has (and not succeeding in doing so consistently). To be a top 8 team we need a top 8 squad which we do not have. Some of these issues are bad recruitment (CMD anyone? Excess forward players?) and others just won't be able to make the step up. I think there are a couple of players that have responded to the rise in expectation (Cash for one) but others are crumbling. It must be very hard to go from the love in that was Smith who reportedly let them train later in the day to SG who by all accounts expects to win and I can imagine is quite intimidating.
  9. Buendia doesn't exactly cut in though does he. He really just starts roaming about wherever he feels like and I think it has something to do with this lack of playing time. He is brilliant but doesn't hold shape all that well when we win possession.
  10. I believe the doom squad is going to be disappointed. Gerrard isn't going to get the sack.
  11. Bang on the money here. A false 9 would even be a better option than the type of game Watkins plays IMO.
  12. Because Smith had been here for years with plenty of money spent on his team. Also by your logic what is so special about Klopp when he needed to spend big on Van Dijk and others when he came in? Or Pep and the millions spent there?
  13. I have no idea what you are on about. I didn't mentioned stats or fantasy football. I spoke about 'visibly' improving - which is a reference to what i can see when i watch the game and how part of the video backed up what I am seeing.
  14. Good watch this. The last part echoes my sentiments that Villa are visibly improving.
  15. I just want a 9 to drop into the space in front of the opposition back 4 and allow the play to develop around them consistently.
  16. I would disagree here and say that we are too slow and timid in making decisions/passes but not not too slow to build up. One of the best things about Guardiola teams and something he stresses is patience in transition/buildup. If you watch closely you will notice that they (ManC) are methodical in buildup and a lot slower than you would imagine hence why they can win 3 zip but it still be quite monotonous. We lose the ball so often in transition or once it gets to the front line. I do agree that it is somewhat down to player limitations.
  17. Dougie seems to have woken up a bit as of late. He always seemed a bit reactive rather than proactive but i have noticed a change in the last couple of weeks. It would be interesting to see him operating in an 8 where he should be.
  18. Better players are needed in key positions for the system that Gerrard wants to employ. Klopp had to splash the cash to do so (Van Dijk) when he first arrived at Liverpool. CB-CDM-ST all need a significant upgrade.
  19. Thank god someone is talking about the system and how to improve it rather than changing it completely which is just not going to happen. It is clear a specialist CDM or holding mid is needed to go along with Marvelous who does a job there. A ball playing CB most definitely - people don't seem to realise that the diamond of GK-CB-CB-CDB is the foundation of how to beat the opposing press (aside from going long) and that it needs to improve. Everytime we go CB to FB (Konsa to Cash) we are ****. To add to this i think a CF is a priority. Neither Watkins nor Ings have the smarts to play the 9 in the system that Gerrard wants to employ and play breaks down with them far too often.
  20. Go touch some grass mate. Every thread is just you having a massive cry and it is tiresome and boring. The team needs a proper player in the holding position. Dougie is doing his best but he ain't it.
