  1. I just don’t think we are playing well. Konsa is slow on distribution, Chambers is rusty and shakey, Longlet an unknown, Tielemans unsure of his role, Kamara on a bad day, Bailey anonymous, Digne having a bad day, McGinn struggling to impose I think because the movement of others is unfamiliar.
  2. Bailey not offering much, we are all a bit pedestrian? It feels like reluctantly we need Pau, Cash, Luiz and Diaby on at half time
  3. This shirt is ridiculous for sweat, it looks like a used dish cloth after 10 minutes
  4. Seems pleased to be here, grateful even. Plays with enthusiasm and with a smile on his face. Shows for the ball and tries to make things happen, to the point of being over eager to impress and make a mark, its like he is trying to make up for lost time. I like him a lot, he is super exciting with a high ceiling, he's also a big lump and when coupling this with mobility is daunting. I can excuse what is being perceived as greed - he was keen to impress on (1) his debut and (2) his first home game. New team mates, new patterns of play, different movement, a new country and league. Unai and his guys will work on him and I see him making a difference and playing a big part, he is someone who has a moment of magic in him. He just needs game time and I think he will excel.
  5. I can see I'm in the minority on this but it seems reasonable to me? I live sufficiently far form the ground that a season ticket, if I could even get one, would be false economy, and because it would only be on special occasions the additional benefits to make it a special day out is worthwhile not least because I get access to the live experience which currently has significant barriers to entry. I used to regularly go to watch the rugby internationals and these tickets are £100+ these days for your seat only. Music events are similar costs nowadays too. I suspect there will be plenty of people just like me who will pay a premium for a special occasion with a few bells and whistles on it that make it an event. If anything I see this being a toe in the water and will soon be £200.
  6. A draw with Liverpool or Newcastle would have seen us comfortably 3rd. Impressive. 1.93pts/game average; beat Chelsea on Sunday and we are over 2.0pts/game again. Look at Chelsea....!
  7. The player I was most excited about seeing this season, above all the new signings. Could be our biggest player in decades.
  8. Rewatched the match yesterday, Konsa was excellent, his confidence on the ball and passing ability has improved enormously. Another thats improved considerably and continues to improve under Emery. At 25 still young and absolutely deserves a new contract as he is "only" on £30K per week but still improving. The caution is his form dipped when he signed a new deal in 2021! edit: seemingly some sources put him at £72K p.w.
  9. ....something about jumpers wasnt it?
  10. This. Emery has averaged 2 points per game in his (reasonably long) career, that is still standing as that is his record with us since he arrived too. I think we will score 10 more points this season than last and historically thats been good for 4th or 5th if you like statistics. Its been said on here that we are a 'flat track bully' losing to the big boys but demolishing the weaker sides - well thats a good start isnt it because that hasn't been the case, we have slipped up against lesser teams too often in the past. If we beat the lesser teams and start winning against the top six thats the form of Champions. I can see us hitting our stride after Christmas in time for the run-in, we have so many new players, so many injuries and some real talent to return, and SO much talent and potential. I dont think we have really clicked and worry for teams when we do because we have enough talent in the players and management to really compete at the very top of this table.
  11. Drogba, Benteke, and I would add Balotelli....... Shocking to think he is still developing, he is going to be so good for us, could even establish himself as a starter before the season finishes. As a team we are going to be so much better in the second half of the season (its about staying at the right end of the table until then), and I think he is one of the stories that will emerge along with Diaby, Torres, Zaniolo, Ramsey, Moreno and Tielemans as they establish themselves.
  12. He has it in his locker, I've seen it on his YT reel and also he hit the bar vs Man City last season in a carbon copy of this one.
  13. Exactly, because it doesnt fit the popular narrative. If that was Mings we would be bemoaning Martinez's slip. Its the same with the Scoboszlai goal from the corner - Torres get the blame but the team didnt defend the corner, and it was stunning shot too. I also thought Digne had a shocker against Liverpool, but criticism seemed to all fall to Torres because he happened to lose the ball early in the game and it was a pile on after that.
  14. I can only imagine we fully intended to play with three at the back this season, with Mings playing with Torres and not one or the other - Mings as the defensive rock and Pau as a "quarterback" offering a more complete team rather than a stiff back line of stoppers. Mings injury, and now Carlos has really derailed that evolution. I dont get the hysteria about the "errors" or defensive weakness, we defend as a team, most goals are team failure - in nearly every goal that has been put on an alleged Torres error, you will find at least one other player at fault or contributing, or the system failing putting us under pressure. Emery wants us to be a fluid team of ball players, he is an important part of ensuring our defensive line is an effective component of a complete team and has an offensive capability. The days of 4 at the back as a defensive obstacle with a creative midfielder are well and truly dead. If Torres coupled these numbers with the physicality being demanded, and turn of pace etc, he would be a £100m player.
  15. Watkins is a decent player, and a CF is not just measured by his goals, but what he contributes to the team. With Watkins in the team only 3 other teams have scored more goals this season - as a team we are doing well scoring goals and he is a part of that success. Yes we would all like him to put away all his chances but I think his off the ball game is very good and helps the team. Hopefully he gets some goals in the cups against some lesser teams and gets his confidence up, he did score a hat trick against Hibs after all so its not as though he is on a drought or he isnt getting into positions to score because he is. Its fine margins and I am sure his fortune will turn. I also think he will sign a new contract, but if he doesn't by January I am sure the club will start looking for a summer replacement and he will be sold.
  16. But maybe who we aspire to and want are not ready to come here yet?
  17. Maybe taking Watkins off and pushing Diaby up top - he looks like he could play a Kane type forward role, dropping back - he can score from anywhere.
  18. Diaby is a class above, he is razor sharp. We need a forward like him as competition for Watkins
  19. But when it is SO marginal, I mean a subjective millimetre, when do they draw the offside VAR line, at what point: when he touches the ball or when it leaves his boot, because that half second is the difference. What happened to favouring the attacker?
