  1. Laursen told Davies that every ball coming into the half was his, Davies said this in an interview at the time. The Davies - Laursen partnership was very good, with no full backs to boot. (save Bouma at times)
  2. A couple things? Bouma and Mellberg were hardly bad full backs to play with! Also, Dunne reads it a little better, Martin was quick? Surely that's the other way round? Dunne's deceptively very quick while Martin was fairly slow but read the game so well. The quick thing is debatable and I know Dunne isnt a sloth. Now then, Melberg was a shocking fullback and although Bouma's a fan fav he isnt a patch on Warnock, or Young for that matter. Melberg and Petrov used to have massive rows during the game which came to a head during the 4-1 win over Newcastle.
  3. If it isnt difficult enough to compare players then this one is very dificult as one has very good fullbacks and the other had little or none. Both made/makes mistakes. Martin was quick (not as quick as Davies) Dunne reads a little better. Dead heat
  4. Cuellar at RB will cost us one day. Luke Young had a good game on the other side but we will miss Warnock. Gabby worked like a Trojan and deserved a goal. Downing had a shocker and should have had two. If we had had someone say like Kalinic up front he would have scored a hatful.
  5. I'm driving down from Bewdley. Can take a further two, possibly three more people for £15/20 each. I'll pick you up and drop you off from local to me. (Kidderminster/Stourport areas) I've got to pick up my lad in Wiltshire on the way and we could be late home if we win. 8.00am start PM me if your interested.
  6. Im still not sue why Young doesnt play at rb, at least on Sunday. He so much more comfortable there. Gives us more going forward too. Cueller is a fish out of water at RB. I'd have Young back there. Petrov kept having to tell to stay calm for the first 20 minutes or so last night. Fonz, Delph, etc will all get a game on Saturday.
  7. Teams that sit deep against us always stand a chance of getting a result. The Ironworks did a good job today and Upson played well at the back. Strike a light we need a striker!!
  8. United are the easier team at present, so I'd rather play them and I'd rather beat them too!
  9. Folski - The reason why I mentioned Clark is that, and I'm guessing, O'Neill must have weighed up both of their prospects and decided which card to play. I think O'Neill got this spot on. Central defenders get better with age and Cahill could easily become the good player he's threatened to be. The striker thing I agree with but again first choice targets may have turned us down. Probably lots of times. I hope this will change with our emerging profile. Good strikers (20 a season) dont come cheap and I'm sure O'Neill has had to work under some or a set of constraints.
  10. Folski - The point I'm making is that in my humble opinion Gary Cahill isnt as good as Dunne, Collins, Cueller, Davies and more importantly Clark. Lennon is still suspect to me even now, although he's having a better season. Other than speed he offers little else and his final ball still seems to go awol for large periods. Its pointless laying the blame at O'Neil's door for any unsigned player as the possibility would always remain that the player in question just didnt want to come here.
  11. I wouldn't have Lennon now. Way too small and one dimensional. Milner, Collins and Kiraly things are hindsight in the extreme. The one that suggests you didnt see the Bolton game recently is Cahill. He played like a pissed Apache and I wouldnt want him back ever. Nice lad thast he is.
  12. Second guessing the situations and permatations of circumstance in decision making in anyone's career/life is a futile exercise. The reasons behind the white flag episode in Moscow are intriguing.
  13. As the guy on BBC radio said we didn't need to get out of third gear. Confidence growing all the time. Well done all!!
  14. I'd keep NRC in for Petrov if only to give him a rest. It must be noted that Bolton were pitiful today and I mean shite. Nigel played well though and deserves a run of games in the middle. I'd keep Luke in at right back and bring back Collins when fit. Cueller did well today at CB but is no right back.
  15. Your prejudice against certain players (C.Davies et al) is laughable. Beye played well and it shouldn't have been a pen. I concede Heskey on the left wing as strange and illogical. Luke Young is not match fit.
  16. Randy Lerner seems to understand not to piss around with the shirt too much. If I had my way we'd have the 75 - 81 shirt forever.
  17. Just as a continuation of this O'Neil loves to play mind/word gameswith the media, whom he has a healthy disrespect for. After getting mauled at home by wigan he will say any glib nonsense just to make himself feel better. Dont get thinking Villa fans are owed an explanation about anything from him either. He can take some things quite personally as some Leicester fans who wrote to him will tell you. As for the squad number thing he may have kidded some of you and fooled some of the press but isnt kidding himself.
  18. I'm afraid to say you're very right here. I know Petrov was injured on Saturday but he's not up to the job. His passing is average and very few of them go forward. (witness MON's blast at him vs west ham last season). Not just picking on him, I could write a critique on all of them but you have to start somewhere. NRC cant pass either but he breaks the play up much better than Petrov.
  19. This Villan doesnt. Davies is very good when he hasnt got Nicky 'dont pass to me' Shorey and an uptight and nervous Carlos Cueller next to him. The Davies/Laursen partnership was excellent ...remember.
  20. Blimey where do you start. A few observations - After 15 minutes or so we had a bit of a scare and Milner and Petrov got well stuck into Cueller and Davies. Very much out of order as Milner proceeded to lose the ball and Petrov did absolutely nothing all game. Petrov's passing game even when fit is poor but today he wasnt fit at all. He isnt a captain either. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and a 5 man midfield with NRC and Sidwell holding would have been the answer. If your going in with two wingers you've got to hold the middle. Singing Carew's name by way of getting at Heskey isnt going to help anyone. We could end up having a really poor start and when that happens its difficult to get out of it. Answer: MON address it and pull the stops out for a holding midfielder and CB. Cueller is the problem by the way not Davies. Up front Heskey tried hard and I dont know what to say about Gabby and Delph is a long way off...buy another striker quick! Note to Holte End - Please dont sing 'empty seats my lord' - thanks.
  21. No but not for the idiotic 'jadas' reasons. We have now a player who is possibly already better and will undoubtedly be better than barry in Delph.
