  1. I truly fantastic season comes to an early and unfortunate end..
  2. I think he's a huge player for us, can't wait until he's back.
  3. I have to admit, I think the Buck/Aikman combination is the worst commentary team in sports, I've often muted their games. EVEYRTHING that happens during the game, Aikman relates back to him and the Cowboys, he's just self-obsessed, while Buck is so far up Aikmans arse it's unbelievable. Can't stand him at all.
  4. Big, big game tonight. Keep an eye on Westbrook, don't let DeSean Jackson beat us deep and GET TO MCNABB!
  5. just about sums it up really, can not really see how people can disagree with this To be fair, most of the seasons he was 'poor', he barely ever started. 00/01 - 7 starts (2 subs) - 1 goal -- I think anybody that calls this poor has got something againt him, he played football for us for 4 months, that's not even enough time to learn the language, etc. N/A - Not enough starts 01/02 - 27 starts (2 subs) - 12 goals -- This is a very good season, in my opinion, nearly a 1 in 2 goals ratio in goals:starts, which is what World class strikers aim for, this was his first full season. Great season 02/03 - 7 starts (8 subs) - 1 goal -- For some reason Graham Taylor thought it would be a good move to drop our top scorer from last season and kill his confidence because..? You tell me, I can't work it out. Can't rate this season, he simply didn't start enough games. N/A - Not enough starts 03/04 - 33 starts (0 subs) - 16 goals -- DOL did the right thing and bring him back into the side, superb season. When you consider the squad we had back then, this was an oustanding acheivment with 23 goals in all competitions. Superb season 04/05 - 30 starts (5 subs) - 7 goals -- His goal return wasn't great, but when you look at the fact he was our top scorer, it doesn't say much for the rest of the team, does it. Average season in a bad team. Okay season 05/06 - 12 starts (19 subs) - 3 goals -- Didn't get many starts, but when you start more than 10 games and play in over 25, you should get more than 3 goals. Bad season 06/07 - 18 starts (5 subs) - 4 goals -- Like above, he should have done better. Moved on to New York towards the end of Jan. We finished 16th this year, so in his defense the rest of the team was crap. Bad season 203 games - 60 goals - 1 goal every 3.3 games. I'd guess around 50 or so were sub appearances, so his goals per starts ratio wouldn't be much higher than 1 in 2.5 games or so, which is a good return, in my opinion, especially as he played in some shocking Villa sides. 2 outsanding seasons in said bad teams, but finished it off with 2 poor ones, though he was in his 30s then, so was on the down. Not a legend, but a hero and would have flurished in a better team, in my opinion.
  6. Eagles pictures in the Giants thread!? They're not worthy! Fun fact: Eli Manning, in his short 5 year career, has won more Super Bowls than the entire history of the Philadelphia Eagles. Therefore Eli > the Eagles.
  7. He never even got a send off of any sorts, how very sad..
  8. Rocafella, I think you're missing the point a bit. Off the field things can affect someones opinion on a player, for example, I'm sure alot of people on here don't like Dwight Yorke, why not? His on the field performances were superb, other factors DO play a part in ones opinion of a player.
  9. I agree with most of what you said Rocafella except the new language thing, some people find it very difficult just to pick up a new language, especially a grown man. And yes, he did miss two penalties in one game, away to Fulham. Strangely, Andy Cole also missed a penalty for Fulham in that match!
  10. Hero. 20+ goals for us in one season, at that time, was a ridiculous abcheivment to be honest, our team was average at very, very best. Always gave his all, seemed to be a very good bloke and enjoy playing for the club. One of my favourite players ever to be honest (Bear in mind I am only 21!).
  11. Best. INT return. Ever. I hope our new #31 can do something simialr this weekend!
  12. do you think the seating as shown by AG is safer than current seating? I really don't know, I can't say it's safer until it's been tested or anything. It's almost irrelevant though as people who want to sit still won't be able to see.. @Jon. The only injuries I've ever gotten celebrating a goal are actually from my own seat! So many times I've jumped up to celebrate and ripped the skin of my ankle or leg in doing so!
  13. a. It's not safe as the seats can be classed as potentail hazards. You could easily celebrate a gold and fall forwards over the next row of seats etc ... b. Some people who have paid to watch the game actually want to sit and watch the game. That's why they have seats. Not easy if others are standing. If i have paid for a seat to watch the game, and the people in front of me are standing throughout, then i have to stand to watch the game also ...... Disagree with point a. I'm sure 99% of people celebrate a goal by getting out of their seat, so they can be judged to be potential hazzards even then. Point b. As some have already said, have Holte End standing, and the rest sitting or something, or just sections.
  14. Not sure what is so difficult about allowing people to stand at footy games. Maybe I'm being a bit naive or I'm missing something, but what's wrong with the way it is now, except just being able to stand up? Like at away games. -Stadiums don't over-crowd due to tickets still being sold on a person-per-seat basis. -No crushes as people can't squeeze together as their are seats in the way. I fail to see where the problem with this is. :?
  15. Well, that depends on how you define read. Everyone on this forum reads in the simplist sense, otherwise you wouldn't have ben able to sign up.. I learn stuff through either being told or on tv, radio, skimming websites, etc. But I don't really consider it 'reading', as stupid as that sounds.. But for me, I don't really read books. I have the Aston Villa Miscellany that I'm reading at the moment, but other than that.. Anne Franks Diary, Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Julliet and a few others that we were forced to read at school. Doesn't appeal to me, just don't have the patience or attention to read.
  16. Is it just me that gets somewhat annoyed by certain US speak? On that SI cover "Philly IS dangerous".. it's ARE! NOT IS! As for them injuries, if one of Westbrook, Runyan, Andrews, Dawkins, Gaither and Samuel doesn't play, I'll eat my hat!
  17. Looking forward to this weekends game, though I'm not entirely confident!
  18. I tend to try to never take the piss out of anything in sports anymore, which has turned me into a bit of a pessimist.. at least nothing can come back to bite me in the ass. Please. Stay. Spags!
  19. A report on NFL.com is suggesting that we may be giving Spags a guarentee to be our next head coach, in the hope that he'll stay on as DC until Coughlin leaves/retires. I would love this!
  20. Not directly related to this, but the team that finished 4th last season - Liverpool - had picked up 38 points after their first 20 games. The same amount of points, in the same amount of games, as we currently have. So it's fair to say we're here on merit!
  21. Chelsea, and it has always been Chelsea. It's not even the team I "dislike the least", since I don't even dislike them. -They have a good few English players in their team. -They slowed Uniteds dominance in the Premier League down. -They were another reason why Liverpool would never win the league. -Jose was a breath of fresh air, I was getting so very bored of the Fergie/Wenger battles. -I hate Liverpool and United, since Wenger decided that Arsenal were no longer English, I began to hate them. If a team from the big 4 were to win the league every year, I'd be happy to see Chelsea win it every year.
  22. Ashley Young for me, he's scored 13 goals in the year of 2008, not too bad at all, and I'm sure he's probably gone over 20 assists qiute comfortabley. Laursen, Petrov and Gabby are worthy of a mention though.
  23. That would be the funniest thing in league history to see Wengers face if they finished 6th this season. Tough run in for the Toffee's while we get it relatively easy, we should hopefully make it a double figure gap between them and us over the next 4 games, though I hope they get a point out of Arsenal.
