  1. How long between the Naughton/Walker deal and Walkers loan to us? 18 months? Besides which, they sent Naughton on loan last season while Walker was their number one right back. Perhaps in the early days they thought Walker needed a bit more experience while Naughton was the more finished article, who knows. None of this points to the Walker loan being a bad thing for AVFC. Where have I said it was a bad thing for us? Ive said I was very glad we had him, Ive constantly been in favour of loan deals if you look at my previous comments. What I have said is we made the mistake that we did not agree to put a fee in his loan deal for which we could sign him. Ive also posted an argument which I think is more than plausible that Naughton was seen as the better prospect. However you seem certain that Spurs knew he was going to be a huge talent. Gareth Bale was also seen as a huge prospect but yet never ventured out on loan whilst at Spurs.
  2. That's fair enough. Do you think he's always been a poor player at each club he's played for? If not, what do you think made the difference? Did look very decent when he first came on the scene, think BOF stated he had a serious injury at Spurs that ended all positives in his game.
  3. Then we might have not got the Loan deal, Walker would have just went of to another PL club. Might? We don't know the ins and outs, I dont think anyone can say they thought when we signed Kyle Walker that he would have come on as much, Daniel Levy or anyone else for that matter.
  4. Did they really though? How many games had he played for them before moving to us? 2 league games. At a time where Hutton was regularly playing surely they would have just thrown him in at the deep end, when Corluka was injured. They obviously thought he'd have potential but we should have said we wanted a deal in place to make it permanent. Yeah spurs didn't know at all - he excelled while with us You can't honestly believe Spurs didn't know how good Walker was and would be? Seriously? Even if they weren't sure they will have had an idea. It was never on. Ridiculous series of posts. Some of you live on a different planet. Well they clearly felt Naughton was the better propect having taken him directly to Spurs while keeping Walker at Sheffield United, when they signed the two. I'm pretty sure this echoes what the Sheffield United fans thought at the time as well and I'm almost certain the bigger piece of the transfer fee was to do with Naughton. So please tell me how you can be so sure Spurs knew he would be as good as he is?

  6. Arsenal got Benayoun on loan last year, Chelsea got some players on loan during José's time there, Maniche comes to mind. How can a club be too big to benefit from a loan deal absolutely madness.
  7. The problem with the Kyle Walker loan was that we didn't he'd be as big as success as he was, how could we not have wanted to buy him? Villa made a balls of it by not agreeing a fee as part as the loan deal. Was I glad he was here, of course, gutted we missed out and replaced him with Hutton, yes.
  8. Could well come back to bite them on the bottom. Could end up being stuck with 2 players who don't want to play Championship football.
  9. I'll say yes despite; or perhaps because of; the season he just had. Reason being, he had that poor season so his stock is currently low. So we'd get him at a proportionately good rate and also he'd jump back to the PL for perhaps a lower wage than if he was moving from another PL side. We'd get more out of him than they did and he has got ability. Stock isn't that low if theyre rejecting £9mil bids BOF! Madness. Lukaku off to WBA?
  10. More than £21million for Jarvis & Fletcher, wow! Fair play to Wolves if they get that, it's about £7million too much IMO.
  11. Totally agree. I think he is a very underated player, he can use both feet, score headers, works hard constantly, and has always scored goals no matter which club he has been at. Scoring 12 goals last season in a **** shite wolves side tells you what his all about. I still feel bothered by the price tag, but I also feel it could be a very intelligent bit of business. And let's face it...he'd walk into our side as it is. The difference is he'd be about £5mil cheaper. As I said a few pages back Giroud cost £9.6mil, he scored 21 goals and assisted another 9 last year in Ligue 1, and Podolski scored 18 in 29 for a relegated Koln side only cost £10.9. Can anyone say with any real confidence that Stephen Fletcher is worth more than these players?
  12. In fairness to Fletcher ( I'm not a big fan of his, see him as a £6mil - £8mil purchase ), the only players to have scored more goals in the Premiership in the last 3 years are as follows. Adebayor - 32 Defoe - 33 Torres - 34 Dempsey - 36 Berbatov - 39 Lampard - 43 Drogba - 45 Tevez - 47 Bent - 50 Van Persie - 57 Rooney - 64
  13. That fee is madness, look at it this way Wenger has bought Giroud a player who scored 21 goal & 9 assists last year in Ligue 1 for £9.6mil, Podolski a player who scored 18 goals in 29 games in a poor Koln side for £11mil.
  14. Surely Hughes could buy him again with the money he has at QPR?
  15. Is the Wet Spam game the end of the window then? Nope, but the points dropped or won before the window closes still counts at the end of the season we have a better squad already than last year, with the additions of KEA and Vlaar. we have a manager who will play to the strenghts of ireland and zog and bent, and not accentuate their weaknesses. the youngsters are a year older and will give us more strength in depth too. even being pessimistic i'd expect us to better last season by at least 9 points, which will see us safely mid table i'd reckon. being realistic, even without additions to the squad i reckon we'll be top half. Sure hope your right, not in my nature to be optimistic thou... I see us struggling if we not seriously strengthen the starting 11 I think our current starting 11 is much much stronger than Norwich's was this time last year. In every department. On paper Id agree, but a lot of those players had a desire that isnt present in our team to suceed in the Premiership, and the sum of the parts certainly wasnt equal to the whole in that case.

I don't know about that for me at the moment the squad seems very lightweight. We don't seem to have any physical monsters, Vlaar aside. Our midfield seems especially nice. With the likes of Bannan, Holman & Ireland hardly frightening. We definitely need a Nigel De Jong type player who can take a kicking but also give one back to protect the back four.
  17. One thing I will say against you Trent is, that its not much of a step down from Spurs to Villa, but I think his stock has certainly dropped in the last 12 months, I can't see many Premiership teams being in for him, nor Scottish, so the step down becomes even further then, plus would those clubs be able to pay these kind of wages? All hypothetical I know, but I think he'll be harder to shift then we think.
  18. Unless he is trying to stop the MON comparisons by buying as many right backs as possible.
  19. Permit was used too much in that article for it to be taken seriously.
  20. Right Full back? Surely not, it's the other side we need looking after. Unless Lowton was signed to play centre back instead of right full.
  21. Fair play to Wolves if they get that. They could buy a brand new team for that in The Championship. Ridiculous, 30 Premiership goals in 96 games is not the worst return, but its not so long ago when you could have got a player who would score that in a season for £12mil. Look at it this way Marlon Harewood managed 27 goals in 109 Premiership games and how many of those would have been starts? Madness by O'Neill.
