Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s Director of Football, will leave the club on June 30 and join Aston Villa. The agreement is almost final, but there is no official confirmation yet. According to reports, Alemany is leaving due to the difficulties he had at Barcelona to develop his work. One of the reasons he is leaving is the tempting offer from Aston Villa, which includes an attractive sporting project and a higher salary than what he currently receives at Barcelona. Moreover, Alemany is tired of many things that happen at the club, such as President Joan Laporta’s interventionism related in some instances to his close friendship to Lewandowski's agent Pini Zahavi, which he does not understand, and unilateral sports decisions such as renewing Sergi Roberto's contract. Barcelona's difficult financial situation and issues with the Fair Play Financial regulations also make it impossible for Alemany to work at the club next season. Additionally, he has been frustrated by the club's unprofessional actions, such as the delay in filing an appeal for Gavi’s registration. The constant leaks about the club's transfer movements also have not helped Alemany’s work. The departure of Alemany is a significant loss for Barcelona.
