  1. Jonnie Marbles is a **** idiot.
  2. re twitter. Don't confuse the medium and the message. If you were to substitute your issues with 'the telephone' instead of 'twitter' you'll get how ridiculous it all is. Twitter is a medium for people to talk shite, just like teh interwebs, just like the phone, just like on the blower and just like at the pub. The key is to find people whose opinions you respect and ignore the muppets.
  3. Holy **** shit... I can go down the street and buy a half-dozen bottles of 500 x 500mg pills off the shelf. It used to be like that here - they brought in the new rule, oh maybe ten years ago. I used to buy painkillers (paracetamol) in bulk - 200 tablet bottle - before the law changed. It's a damn nuisance. I suspect that the "suicide" thing is actually a cover to hide a de facto price increase caused by having to buy in small quantities. Apparently paracetamol suicides went down dramatically as a result; maybe 80% or something. It's also a nasty way to die, very painful and extremely slow.
  4. You're in the right place; keep coming back. And if you're British, it's 'really'
  5. Hero. Where's the poll Tony? I wanna vote!
  6. The scousers never buy the sun; a new song recorded by Billy Bragg this weekend just gone:
  7. I think, if push comes to shove, that financially it's in Rupert's interest to evenshut down his newspapers in order to get control of BSkyB, such is the declining financial clout of printed media. What he will never understand is that print is being replaced by the mobile web, which is more powerful than he can possibly imagine. Mwah hah hah etc.
  8. 0121 sounds natural as 'oh one two one'... 'zero one two one' just sounds retarded, and American, which makes it more retarded. And yet, it's basically universal in America to use 'oh' for 'zero', especially in telephone numbers: 5088675309 => "five-oh-eight eight-six-seven five-three oh-nine" (combining two or three digit blocks into a single number pretty much only occurs for business marketing purposes... e.g one-eight-hundred fifty-four giant, which I suspect the other New England VTers will recognize) NANP, of course, is the cause for the 3-3-4 breakdown of phone numbers given above: a three digit area code (often enclosed in parentheses) plus a seven digit phone number, of which the first three digits represents the exchange. Dammit man, we all know Hawaii Zero Zero Zero Zero Zero. Give us some credit! * actually I know it was 'Five O', but am not really sure why, so it's all a big guess.
  9. i'd rather that than people who give you their number in 5-6 number blocks. 07897... 421863 (made up number) no, i can't write that fast you fool! They should do it in threes, we can handle that. Also the first two digits of a mobile phone number are always 07.
  10. I've added you to my VT circle Darren. Please all feel free to add me: flatantti gmail com
  11. This is becoming dispiritingly predictable. Guess who else they hacked? Can't hotlink so just click. http://twitpic.com/5o9wj1
  12. There's still @ExNOTWjourno2 though... That said they may not have succumbed to the carrot; could be fear of the stick. EDIT: #2 has said that #1 was paid off.
  13. Hmm... Encouraging my young paduan. I am excite for you. Keep us posted.
  14. What he doesn't address though is how these powers could work if they were non-statutory. How might a more powerful PCC compel Glenn Mulcaire or James Murdoch not only to attend, but to disclose information? And what sanctions could it have? In the end, only sanctions which cost the media very large amounts of money, backed by the threat of withdrawing their licence to operate, will work. Something like the GMC might work - independent of government, but backed by statute and with power to withdraw registration. Make it part of OFCOM or report into it or something. Not quite sure how it would work though.
  15. You know what? I'm really optimistic that Murdoch and his grubby Empire is about to fall. I'm feeling that this is our Arab Spring; when the cowed and oppressed rise up to throw off the shackles of an oppressive dictator. Brings a whole new meaning to 'British Summer'.
  16. I think it shows that people (public, politicians, advertisers) can see how things are going to pan out and want to disassociate themselves from Murdoch as much as possible. His list of supporters is diminishing by the hour.
  17. Hmm, as is often the case with these kinds of goings on, it is the cover up which is more damaging than the original misdemeanour. The original issue was about voicemail hacking by the NOTW. The subsequent scrambling to cover arses is shining a very bright light on much more: 1) Other alleged illegal activity by NOTW a) burglary live call tapping c) email hacking/trojan use 2) News Corps'/The Murdochs' activity a) Continuing attempts at damage control as a substitute for honesty and integrity alleged destruction of criminal evidence (email archive deletions) c) an alleged attempt to destroy more archives in Indian data centre d) Buying the silence of those paid of re phone hacking 3) Complicity of the police in failing to investigate criminal activity 4) The Prime Minister's actions re employment of Coulson a) He could possibly be forgiven for the error of judgement in employing him It is doubtful he could be forgiven for lying about what he knew and when. In short, an awful lot of people and organisiations are going to fall. Every action by the Murdochs is tarnishing their organisation and helping the mask to slip a little more. And each time it slips their opponents become more emboldened. My predictions: 1) NI takeover of BSkyB to be refused, or at least to not go ahead 2) Collapse of News Corp as the brand becomes as toxic as NOTW 3) Criminal charges against Rebekha Brooks 4) Prime Minister resigning/no confidence vote (Would mean Clegg as pm - hilarious!) 5) New press regulator answerable to OFCOM 6) Other newspapers dragged in & more journos charged 7) Union recognition at News Corp (there are rumblings already)
  18. Rupert generally doesn't fire people who have dirt on him. They tend to get promoted. Which makes me think that the NOTW staff who've just lost their jobs are actually innocent...
  19. I've looked him up on wikipedia, but am none the wiser as to the hate - he's right wing, but I guess there's more to it?
  20. The fact that a third party (i.e. Murdoch) has such control over the organs of state is extremely damaging for our society. Up until recently the politicians (legislature), the government (executive), the fourth estate (media) and the police have been aware that they can only do their jobs where it doesn't damage Murdoch. What makes it worse is the nature of Murdoch's politics, which are frankly venal and poisonous, with no respect for anyone except his close friends; the rest of the world is merely to be used to further his interests. Well it seems that morale amongst some of the various powers (legislature, police and media) has increased to the point where they're ready to throw off the shackles and bring him down. It's now only the executive standing in the way: Cameron has so far made the decision to put his duty to his friends above his duty to the country. How long will he hold out I wonder?
  21. Why? Does it take longer to copy and paste from bcfc.co.uk now? No, but it takes bloody ages to disinfect your computer.
  22. I'm with mike on the fugly comment. Looks like a tonka toy. Just big for the sake of being big. Like chunky jewellery, loud clothes and loud music. Driven by people who are afraid of not being noticed.
  23. ooh, lovely lob to beat the keeper. England 1-0 v Japan
