  1. It don't work like that. We are paying for every error though, we could easily have 7 more points than we do Agree. We are reasonably close to being a perfectly respectable mid-table side. About one Benteke away from that. I can't see how we're close. If we're going to be fair talking about mistakes and missed chances you could equally say we're as close to being the worst team in the league. I hope benteke shoots us up the league as much as you think he will but we were very poor with him last year and weren't great the year before when he was scoring for fun. And if benteke is our only hope what do we do next year? Because let's face it, an injury is the only reason he's still a villa player. This. It is far too simplistic to talk about our errors and sitters missed and ignore those of the opposition. It cuts both ways, and we are where we are because that properly reflects our season so far.
  2. No problem Keane going as far as I am concerned. He certainly did not galvanise the players or have them playing noticeably better. Seemed to make no difference whatever.
  3. Of course Lerner shoulders a large amount of the blame for our present predicament by his poor decisions and his consequent cost cutting, but I have come to the conclusion fairly recently, after backing Lambert from the start and then giving him more time, more time, more time - that Lambert is just not up to the task. Whether another manager can do any better I do not know, but I suspect there are gettable managers who could. But with Lerner in charge, could he find a gettable manager - doubtful. No matter about other managers, I also think that Lambert is going nowhere on the back of his 4 year deal, and I think, regardless of our diverse opinions, that we all need to hope that he is good enough to keep us up, because I fear that, under Lerner, we are sleepwalking into relegation.
  4. Even with our best 11 on the pitch, I am no longer convinced that Lambert has the capability of getting top ten.
  5. I think it is much more difficult for forwards to break through successfully into the first team.
  6. I have liked the look of Robinson in the limited amount of times I have seen him play. Thought he has looked better than Grealish. Wouldn't it be great if both became influential players for us. Having said that, this is only a good move if he gets to play. I am disappointed that Grealish has not been given at least a little game time.
  7. It certainly looks more hopeful for when Vlaar leaves. And we also have Donacien.
  8. Hopefully but the thing with Clark is that he could easily follow up yesterday's performance with some really sub-standard ones. Yep, hopefully. I suppose I believe in him more than many others. I am with you on this. I have noticed that when they go into the huddle it is often Clark who does the talking. I thought at one stage he was a future captain.
  9. I have been there before when we were relegated. Believe me, you would not like it.
  10. Who would have thought when he was signed that we would be seeing an injury to Senderos as a big problem.
  11. Unless I have missed something, I do not think that article adds anything to the discussion. It is still not any clearer whether he will stay or go, it is only agent waffle.
  12. Is this ITK or guesswork like everyone else?
  13. He has nothing like a `spectacular track record' and almost two and a half seasons should not just be off-handedly dismissed as `ten seconds'. These negate the entire post.
  14. Lambert is going nowhere, and I do not think he is up to the job. This thread depresses me.
  15. Now that is nonsense. He had a great goal scoring record, and achieved far more than most footballers ever will. He was always signed to score goals, and did so. And it is goals that win matches, not assists.
  16. True, but it also requires the player to actually sign. We all seem to be working on some belief that Delph or Vlaar or <next man> would love to stay here. Of course, they may well sign a new deal; who knows. Football is a greedy game though - both know they could get more money elsewhere. This - you can't make them sign if they do not want to. I suspect this was all left too late because of Lerner's decision to sell.
  17. Who are they? I doubt anyone really feels that way. Judging from the general mood and negative posts on the forum, it seems some posters are very bitter about a positive performance and result. Have you considered that posters may have thought it was a good result and an adequate performance, and are debating with those who maintain that it was a good performance and that the team had played well for the last 3 games.
  18. I did not think he would become as good as he has been recently. Hopefully it is not just temporary.
  19. Might he possibly go in the January window? Could be best all round if we could replace him in that same window.
  20. And me. It's the elite Rugby Union club competition on England. Maybe that's the way forward, we might do better at another sport? I beg your pardon. I am from Ireland - I know nothing. It bothers me now too!
  21. Not that bothered about losing Delph, he is not good enough in my opinion that I should be bothered about him leaving Nor do I expect loyalty from players, they are bound to look after their own interests financially, and they will want to play at the highest level possible, simply for the status that brings. But I am bothered at the waste of resources, we bought him expensive, carried him on a decent salary for most of his time here, and now he possibly goes for nothing. He only had one and a bit decent seasons for us, and if he does go, it will be interesting to see who will come in for him.
  22. Really? This is what bothers you at the moment.
  23. It is possible that Lambert is still with us and on a 4 year contract simply because Lerner has no idea who he would get as a replacement.
  24. If you are constantly fighting relegation, you will eventually go down. We need comfortable mid-table finishes for several seasons to re-establish ourselves before we can push a bit higher. I do not think Lambert can give us this. And note that I said `comfortable', not flirting with the relegation zone most of the season and eventually finishing mid table.
  25. Pretty much. The two youngsters are far too lightweight as well, which is noticeable. If I was a attacker raiding down our wings, I know which pair I'd rather be facing. Good point.
