  1. Not a lot wrong with that article. Does not tell us anything we did not already know, but puts it in a nice little bundle.
  2. Looking at our fixtures, April is a bad month, but the other months you would have to look at, if you had any sort of a half decent team, and think ``We can get points there''. Problem is, we have a team either not good enough or mismanaged, and a manager who gives the appearance of being bereft of ideas and confidence.
  3. If we go to Hull and lose without scoring then I think even I might be forced to add my voice to the Lambert out chorus. You just know they've already got that one circled on their calendar as an absolute must-win. Should be a humdinger because no doubt we have too. Can 0-0s ever really be described as a humdinger?! 0-0 will probably be seen as a good result, unfortunately.
  4. Think the percentage would be up nearer to 85-90% personally. I think you do need the nuances, though, because there could be a good number that, although wanting him gone, may think that that particular course of action has been left too late.
  5. If a player wants to remain involved with the team he will be nothing but complimentary about the manager.
  6. The media are beginning to take notice at last.
  7. Sadly, I would say this is absolutely correct.
  8. Good post. One of those fans may have been me. Was one tall, very handsome and had the kind of expression that screamed 'IQ > 150'? Was that the one you were standing beside.
  9. Relegation is never a better option. It was bad back then, but so many things have changed that it would be much worse now.
  10. Presumably you think he can keep us up, Richard, and certainly I am hoping he can, but I am also more worried now than I have ever been during his tenure. If he cannot turn it around very soon, like starting with the Hull game, we will be relegated, and I do not want that misery again.
  11. But people actually insinuate that those fans who aren't booing or boycotting games are part of the problem? It's insulting. You couldn't be more right. I am not sure if I can put this across right but to a lot of people it is also more than just about watching the game. It is a social event. It is something that they have done with family or friends for years. Speaking about my own situation I am in my 27th year on the spin as a season ticket holder. First it was something I did with my dad and brother but my dad passed away in 2002. Since 2004 when my eldest daughter was 6 I got her a season ticket and she is now in her 11th season. It is more than just about what is served up on the pitch for me. If it wasn't for going to the Villa as sad as it sounds I wouldn't see my brother from one week to the next. For me and my daughter now it is something I hold dear that it is our guaranteed bit of time together. It is our thing if you like and I genuinely cherish that. I can’t say I have enjoyed what has been served up on the pitch for the last 4 or so years. What right minded supporter has. That’s not enough to stop me going though. I love this club. That feeling of seeing us win at Villa Park wipes away all the previous cr*p that has been served up in an instant. At least for a while until reality sets back in anyway J It is just not realistic to ask supporters to boycott games. It is also not fair either as what some fans have invested in this club goes way beyond what is being served up on the pitch. What a very good post that is.
  12. We need the points, but cannot see it happening. And I would be pretty sure that if we stay up, Lambert will be here next season.
  13. You may have made a cross for your own back there, Stephanie.
  14. Because of the daft 4 year contract, and Lerner's apathy, I was convinced that Lambert would not be sacked. I am not so sure now though, things are beginning to look alarming, and I think if results do not improve against the`lesser' teams, Lerner may well panic and pull the trigger.
  15. This or Chelsea depending on the performance/result (i.e a 5-0 thrashing); anything similar to the rubbish served up against Arsenal and fans will turn (rightly so imo) No, will not be the Chelsea game. He will get (another) free pass on that one. After that, though, it will get messy if things do not improve.
  16. I don't get that Si, surely all managers try their best? Even the much despised David O'Leary didn't want to lose games. Liking him as a person doesn't really come into it in my opinion, although for what it's worth, I don't think he's got many likeable qualities. The lies he tells put me right off him. Do you like anyone Risso? No, you're right, my dislike of David O'Leary and Paul Lambert extends to all of humanity. Is this why we're not Facebook friends anymore? I think it's weird to dislike Lambert as a person. He's a bit media shy but he generally comes across as one of the good guys, it can't be easy defending that shite (mostly his own shite) every week either. I know somebody who's opinion I hold dear, at least when we are in bed together, who knew him back in his Celtic days and he is apparently pretty sound. Down to earth, quite level headed and ambitious, with a temper but with very little ego attached to it. To compare him to O'Leary is absurd IMO. But then that is somebody else's opinion ultimately, I'd not like to judge him completely either way without ever having really known the man. I never really hated O'Leary either to tell the truth, just thought him a bit dim witted. Did not realise you and Oneill were so close !
  17. I do not think that he is saying that it is not for sale, Tro, but that it is up for sale if someone comes along - he is just not actively searching for buyers.
  18. I am more worried about relegation at this point than I have been in any of the last 3 seasons. We are in a real tail-spin, and I am not sure that we can get out of it.
  19. Considering Lambert's record-breaking tenure, you could realistically say that all previous sacked Aston Villa managers were sacked for less. I'd say taking us down would be worse than breaking a few records. Although Lambert could do that too. Personally I don't really care that much about many of the records - it's all about points, goals, wins and league position for me, which obviously Lambert isn't doing anywhere near good enough on. Agree absolutely. And you are right that records in themselves are not the important thing, but they are an interesting indication of how well or badly a person or team is doing. And of course the records are reflected in the results, which, as you rightly say, are the really important thing.
  20. Considering Lambert's record-breaking tenure, you could realistically say that all previous sacked Aston Villa managers were sacked for less.
  21. In that case I stand chastened. Not after all a poor decision by Lambert. Hopefully now Robinson can take up where left off, because I think he is a good one.
  22. I think that playing Weimann either with or instead of Benteke up front is our best hope of getting goals. He has the movement, and he does get into the positions for chances, and with Gil and Sinclair supplying, it might give us some hope.
  23. We may not have bought anyone today, but with Delph re-signing, and bringing in Gil, who looks good, and Sinclair, who looked better than I thought he would be in his short appearance, I think it has been a good window. Now we just have to hope we have enough to stay up.
  24. Yeah they proved it against Arsenal???????? The player have to take some of the blame too, with the two new additions plus Delph signing on. I'm sure things will start improve. plus this was an arsenal team who are probably the best in the league at the moment !! To be honest I don't think Aston VIlla should ever lose to 5-0 to anyone. Well, your pal Lambert has overseen a fair number of big losses now. You best have a word with him.
