  1. He didn't score many and whilst Moors were happy enough there wasn't much to write home about and given the difference in levels meant there was next to no hype about Archer on here or from the fanbase. So 'struggling' in terms of how fans would want any loans to go, ripping the league a part - he didn't do that. But that's the point, loans can be very useful for players and massively aid their development for a variety of reasons. Scoring and assisting like Prime Messi would do in the Vanarama South would be great for all players on loan, but isn't realistic
  2. Well no, Heskey scored over 100 Premier League goals, winning 4 League Cups, an FA Cup, a UEFA Cup and a UEFA Super Cup as well as getting over 60 caps for England. But the playing styles (and deficiencies) are similar enough for a comparison imo.
  3. Keinan is Heskey reincarnate in my mind. if he can add goals to his game he could certainly have a good career. Heskey gets an unfair amount of stick for his goal scoring prowess too but was invaluable to us in avoiding relegation and earlier in his career was an incredible team player at Liverpool. You'd imagine even if he's never going to be first name on the team sheet that Steven Gerrard would be able to understand the value of this kind of player to a squad. If he gets sold and racks his value up over 6-18 months on loans before next summer and is sold, so be it and it's probably the most likely option. But I also won't rule him out of having more of a Villa career than we're all anticipating
  4. I agree with your post. But Lamptey and KKH would be a lovely duo to be able to rotate. I love Cash though and think he's ideal to have against the bigger sides where he puts his body on the line and gives it his all. KKH can eventually take the lesser teams where we want more attacking output
  5. Was an unused sub in MK Dons' 2-1 win yesterday. They Play 3 at the back with wingbacks the same as Swindon so hopefully he'll slot in well there. (3-5-2 at MK Dons but 3-4-3 at Swindon). Seems like he's going to have to work to win his position there. Tennai Watson is their starter and #2 shirt. Is only 24 and an average rating of 6.7 so is playing pretty well when he plays. For Kesler to dethrone one of their actual own players who is going to start coming into their peak years is going to require him to be on his game. Fortunately Watson has only 14 starts this year and 7 sub appearances (29 games played by Dons) so appears he has had or has an issue with regular football, Kesler going to have to make the most of his opportunity when it comes to get that starting shirt. Must have been some assurances for us to not send him back to Swindon.
  6. You literally asked what Barry had shown at 18 compared to Archer to say he's better and got a list of things. At the moment yes Archer is better but is 2 years older. At 18 Batry had accomplished a lot more. Last season Archer had a failed loan at Solihull Moors, Barry had half a failed loan at Ipswich. Obviously Archer is better at the moment but is 2 years older. That's the entire point. We'd have all written Archer for after doing nothing at Solihull, so let's not make the same mistake with Barry just because we're expecting a lot from him
  7. Not heard much about Cole but Aaron is supposedly the 'good' one out of him and Jacob. It's weird, initially that belief amongst fans meant Jacob was written off a bit or atleast a lot of discussions of 'hes decent but the brother is even better!' so not much pressure on Jacob... Now we're talking about Jacob like a World Beater 'but the brothers even better!' going to be some interesting expectations for young Aaron
  8. Has more weight of expectation on him than any other player because of the club we bought him from and that he scored Vs Liverpool. Whilst we now have other candidates, we were all desperate for the new Jack Grealish when Barry started coming through, local lad, Villa fan, came from Barca and a great debut means the expectation around him is so high. I just hope he gets the time and doesn't crumble under the pressure. Most of us hadn't heard of archer a year ago or atleast never discussed him if we had. Barry deserves the time and space to find his feet too
  9. Hopefully none of our last few buys end up being busts, struggled to get rid of Kalinic (and Beye etc all of MONs lot) on £40k a week, be a damn sight harder getting rid of players on 80-160k
  10. Deleted it, got the team and scorers apparently then the Buendia thing. Got a load of abuse and deleted his Twitter... Then the team and scorers confirmed. Hopefully just BS but that's the story anyway. I didn't see the tweets myself he'd already deleted it by time I saw the drama
  11. 3-1 Win Ramsey, McGinn and Watkins all in the first half Ramsey 5' (left foot from a rebounded Chambers effort) McGinn 11' (top corner from a Buendia lay-off) Watkins ~23' (header from a deflected Digne cross)
  12. Is that what the guy whose deleted his Twitter said? I've seen loads saying they hope whatever he said isn't true but I was too late to see what he'd said
  13. Who are the three players with McGinn at the start of the video? Is Chrisene and Sinisalo two of them?
  14. Really excited about Tim. Think he's going to get on the pitch at some point in Feb or March before Nakamba comes back. Bet he's loving training with Gerrard and being part of little moves like this too
  15. He may well have been but not pictured. I took the names from photos on the OS and from commentary detailed. It wasn't exhaustive and didn't list who came on when or who started. Very possible others played too. Or Dougie was off signing a new contract
  16. Only know the players listed above and that Ings started over Watkins rather than they played together. I've seen the same debate on Twitter, some have said Chambers did play DM but nothing concrete. I'd assume that Iroegbunam played there whilst he was on for sure and maybe Chambers did later. The only tidbit of Chambers was that he got back to stop a late attack from Brentford as they looked to equalise. If he was the furthest back I would assume he was playing CB or RB by that point rather than DM - as you'd hope the CBs would be further back than the DM.
  17. Updated with confirmed players involved and breakdown of the score/ game. OS article here: https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/february/01/Villa-take-on-Brentford-in-a-friendly-/
  18. Wasn't sure where to update on the friendlies taking place behind close doors. The below tweet discusses the U23 Academy players but it was a First Team friendly. Good to see Tim and Carney getting opportunities in essentially a mini-preseason Infront of Gerrard and co. Villa won 2-1 Vs Brentford, Young, Cash, Digne, Sanson, Jacob Ramsey, Iroegbunam, Carney, Olsen, Konsa, Chambers, McGinn, Mings, Watkins and Ings were all involved. Ings had one goal disallowed for offside after tapping in a rebound from a Carney shot. Brentford 1-0 up shortly after following a defensive mistake. Watkins came on in the second half and scored from a Carney assist, 1-1 after 56 mins A Mings header gave us the lead, 2-1, after 72 mins
  19. For me, I think we'll see In (Definites): Hickey, DM and a GK. Outs (Definites): Trez, AEG, Wes, Targett, Davis, Steer, Kalinic, Hourihane I also think we'll lose one of Ings/Watkins, one of Luiz/McGinn and potentially one of Mings/Hause. Then think we'd also bring in replacements for whichever of those we lost. I also think we'll be OK with losing one of those first 4 to fund our other moves and OK with losing Mings or Hause to upgrade at CB.
  20. No chance we get any of those fees, I know you said not to crucify and it's annoying when people do but I think we'll do very well to get £40m for that lot and pay for Coutinho.
  21. If we do I think it would end in similar fashion to Smith-Rowe, Ward-Prowse and Bissouma, takes ages and inevitably wastes time before we miss out by the end of the window one way or another. He'll be £60m+ and have better offers than us if he's cheaper than that. We clearly have a bit of a line around the £35-40m mark that we aren't yet willing to cross.
