My point was his mental state of mind is immaterial......we should be sure he's honoured by us and the club properly. perhaps I never wrote it particularly well. thanks Dave

That's my point John.....its what's right, it's what we must do.

That '77 side was so exciting too.......Rimmer in lieu of budgie and we would have won the league.

Me too.....and that was no ordinary Liverpool team, it was one of Europes best. the missus won a portable tv in the raffle in the Aston social that night.....some night for me.

He never had an issue with the club, just one man. He was never a man for fuss or praise.....Ron never wanted praise, just respect. there is a difference. I would imagine Ron wouldn't give a toss now as he duffers from dementia.....its about us and what's right. We need to feel we have respected him for the remarkable achievements.
  6. There are strikers that rely heavily on service.....then there are others that survive, with minimal service. Jose made a specific reference to this point, when he was in the business of replacing Drogba. The ones that can score with minimal service, Suarez,Ronaldo, Drogba, Henry, etc are amongst the best, but they are worth their weight in Gold. Jose made reference to their scarcity and subsequent value in his interview. Kodjia is not commensurate with their quality in terms of consistency ,but he is of their type in the sense of what has been described.

.....and I think someone with better IT skills than me, ought to write to Dr Tone and explain our disappointment and ask if the club can remedy it. It is a major mystery how a man and his cohorts had such a major impact on our history and the records of his achievements are paltry. Its all so very, very disappointing. Its something I think should be remedied ASAP. To hell with the past 2 owners and their reluctance to honour him......let's just put the record straight. We owe him that much.
  9. I see them as two separate things in one context. 1. I have the greatest sympathy with seamus and I hope he gets well soon. Its not the first time an incident like this has happened and it won't be the last, but if we could remove these tragic things from the game we would. 2. i have no idea, what was going through Neil's mind, so I am reluctant to speculate.I am pretty damn sure, the result was not what he expected. He now needs to try and put this behind him the best he can and despite the world at his throat, he is our player and we need to support him. The mass reaction to this incident is fairly predictable.....its no good arguing the ins and outs, it's done and it's regrettable.......He and we just have to move on and ride out the criticism, with a stiff upper lip.

I read it......it was very good. you can clearly see how the persona of the man resonated through the team. Ron, for me was our Shankly.....similar characters IMV. I remember a story about a Surveyor/ architect who was working on the ground. In passing, Ron heard him chattering and rubbishing the team......Ron had him removed from the ground. No messing with Mr S ps a story well worth reading and you can see why we was successful.
  11. I hope FiFA have the sense to base their opinion and punishment on the tackle......not the result of the tackle. i did not see the tackle myself so I can't comment on it, but it is so easy to react to the result of the tackle as opposed to the instigation of it.
  12. Wow......two wrongs, don't make one right. your first comment is commendable......your second, cynical IMO. He gets paid as a result of market forces......He is still suffering mate and may lose his career. Poor comparison IMV.
  13. Its not about being Irish.....its more about being Human and sporting. No normal thinking person wants to see ANY player on the receiving end of an injury like that. I think it's very sad , personally I would like to think if it was one of our players with a broken leg, they would get a compassionate response. I sincerely hope he gets well.....and soon.
  14. His first game was really good.....he then faultered badly in a team trying to regain its confidence. He has now presided over 5 clean sheets in his last 6 games. It appears Bruce wants him and he sees him in training. I reserve my judgement and I do enjoy young players growing with us, it enhances team spirit...so give him a chance.
  15. Henry type goal. lots of strikers play in different ways and go about their goalscoring in different ways. I think Kodjia is a real talent and requires us to play a certain way to capitalise. If that's the case so be it. No goal scorer is perfect....blimey, Jimmy Greaves had his detractors. This boy, is a real asset IMO......not only was it a brilliant strike, his ability to beat his man on the run, is no mean feat. love him. ps he has the poise and body balance of a thoroughbred.
  16. The amazing thing for me about Gary, was he rarely got caught in possession. very deceiving player, very intelligent player......not great pace but didn't need it. The other 2 were just brilliant too.
  17. considering its just in its infancy,( the clearing up) thats fairly impressive
  18. Yeah, sort of. Or you think have got something of quality and it turns out to be not.. similar I suppose. ps......poke is a sack or a bag.......a pig is what we bought
  19. I can't quite remember.....but yes you are right about finding the players.....He was the man. I had an hour with him once after an international friendly, I was invited by someone close to the team to join them for after match drinks in a Hotel on the Hagley Rd. I was fortunate to be throw together with Tony Barton, who was then manager......I am never short of a comment as some know on hear,(easy Tiger ) but he was mesmerising talking football, The man was amazingly knowledgeable.....I was deathly silent listening to him.....His evaluation and profile on all the players was fascinating and honest. Something I will never forget, Ron Certainly had a brilliant Lieutenant.
  20. I wasn't being prickly, just referring to the Euro Cup Bit.
  21. The quintessential " pig in a poke"
