  1. Its hypothetical I know, but Pearson could have had the same response that Ranieri did......not trying to take anything away for Claudio by the way.....we will never know. back to us..... I don't think it will take that long, but I am not arguing with your general thoughts.....but,It will take much longer than some fans think though. There will come a time when to enter the next phase, big money may have to be found.......right now I think we can achieve our objectives without big money spent..I think we have done enough of that for now.....I think the nucleus is there.
  2. I would dump the league placing and concentrate on the form table. That for me is a much better barometer of where we are going and what progress is being made. The league table takes in RDM's stewardship and that is not really that helpful to us now. IMO there has been too much mess this season to make anything plausible out of a League table placing.
  3. That is a real subjective statement.....and I would guess the whole fan base would have a different view. Guus Hiddinck.....I think he has been amongst the worlds best managers during his Career.....The Chelsea Job just suited him, Caretaking it until a resident manager came in.I don't think he wants the pressure at his age of a resident managers job and usually their families tell them not to. Guus's best days are gone IMO and a rebuild such as ours would require more energy than he has and perhaps more time to fix than he would wish for. I am not saying for one minute Steve is in the Guus Hiddinck class and I would also be amazed if Guus would be interested in us......but when all the criteria is considered i think we have a very decent manager who is in the early stages of a rebuild, when we get to the stage of a few players per window coming in to an already established team, we will all see the difference and the improvement will also gather pace.........(Every seen an old steam train leaving from a standing start?.....thats like us now) The momentum will gather. I think Steve Bruce is good enough for what we want.....whether a few years down the line, we feel we have plateaued with him or conversely he has had enough, who knows. In my opinion.....This is no ordinary rebuild on the contrary, I would say Extraordinary......I see signs of improvement already in the play and the players desire and attitude. Not there yet, but as long as we are making steady progress, its all we can ask. Lets not disrupt a job that is in progress, for an opportunity of a quick fix that could us back where we come from. Stability and sustainability, will not come from a quick fix.....It will come from a strategy that is nurtured and worked over a period of time and it grows in to the thing you want now. Personally, I think we was lucky to get Steve Bruce, like the Albion was lucky to get Pulis, ( but he has had his detractors too, from fans wanting immediate results and performances) We will be ok.....but we may have some further setbacks on the way,we have to believe in what we are doing, we must stay strong, the club is on the right lines and they have trust in their manager
  4. You are bang on. but even if by a stroke of luck, we did get a superstar manager( and of course that statement alone is subjective) how do we know that a big job comes up and off they go. folk can scoff all they like ,this club needs stability, like a car crash victim needs blood. I do not understand why more can't see this.
  5. My opinion is GH we are doing better.....a bit of resilience is creeping back in. 10 wins to his name in all this WIP is good. The game at Huddersfield showed signs of improvement, considering they had 2 loan players from Man City and Chelsea......bits of teamwork starting to appear. Every new player we have signed has made reference to the gelling and that it is getting better. This job always was much, much bigger than we all thought and those fans who thought that these new players would come in and zip pity doo da with a click of the fingers are clearly disappointed.....but is that their fault for underestimating the size of the task or Steve Bruce for taking the time that most managers would. He now has a set of circumstances where c10 players are out injured, talk about putting fires out. in the summer, he can add.....and maybe concentrate on a few choice loan players, who I understand the new scouts have already identified......but it will be tweaks then and players coming in to relatively settled side You will see a different team for the better next season.....and perhaps wonder how that has happened. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. UTV
  6. Perhaps all of them would have got more than 3 wins in the prem last season.
  7. Even Arsenal have a night off as do PSG
  8. My opinion always has been give him a chance to turn around, a very difficult football club derived from years of demise. but you are right.....everyone has an opinion and the right to it. However, I think its a bit hard nosed to bark out intransigence, when we are only asking for the guy to be given a chance. Ps ......but one of us is right.
  9. All on his own, without any help from no one. ....... you are a charmer, I'll grant you that. ps what do you do, when you're not haunting houses?
  10. I think this debate is like painting the forth bridge. They have their views and intervention from Friedrich Nietzsche or John Stuart Mill on our behalf ,would make not a scrap of difference.
  11. That is primarily what Steve Bruce is trying to change and equally that is the thing that takes time to change......its not like practicing taking corners.....its trying to instill a belief and winning mentality.......its happening, but slowly, slowly catch a monkey......... he will do it.
  12. Some folk in life have tough jobs and success as you call it is not always measured the quite same way with owners of clubs.....they sometimes look at the improvement behind the scenes that has not yet manifested itself to the pitch. according to your argument, the managers of teams that finish regularly below 6th in the Premier league are all low grade. so Tony Pulis is rubbish is he? If he had of been appointed at Villa, before Albion we would be having the same conversation.
  13. You seem to have no handle whatsoever on how long these things take. This was a premier league team that went down and was only fit for division one. They would have struggled in the championship with 3 wins all season in the Premier....they was one of the worst performing sides ever to grace that league. Have you the slightest inclination of the size of this task. we have presided over one manager in 20 years exceeding a 40% win ratio. This job never ever was a one season repair job. I have to say, your impatience or failure to value the size of the task is unhelpful.
  14. It seems to me some folk are just looking at the success some managers are having at their clubs and putting 2&2 together. its a superficial argument. for every ......Smith- Wagner- Monk- Rowett ........There is a Lee Johnson, Ranieri There are many ,many factors that are at work that make these guys successful and there is absolutely, no guarantee's it would work elsewhere. when a manager goes from club to club and creates success everywhere that is when the odds are for him succeeding. some of these managers offer no such Guarantee. Monk failed at Swansea Wagner has had one real job Rowett has done well in 2 jobs, but relatively inexperienced Smith has only had one job of any ilk.
  15. I think the supporters of Steve Bruce are being misconstrued by his detractors. Steve Bruce is not Pep or Jose......but he knows his way around this league. That is what he was employed for......let's allow him to do his job.
  16. So when you calculate a managers win ratio's in the premier league.....you exclude the top 4/5 because they are superior quality? what would you do with Leicester......exclude them last season and now include them again. Rubbish.
  17. GH Why ,why, why......don't they just sack him. because, Taylor, Little, Round and Wyness and many more are saying Steve Bruce us the right man and more importantly the club needs stability. Even the great Ron Saunders needed time to develop his teams. Who, may I pray, is this other guy who hypothetically can do better.
  18. That is folly. What has the league got to do with it......its win ratio's They had a premiership team to play in the premiership. the opposition will be relative in any league to the team you manage. he could have been in the conference.....but he would have a conference team to get his wins.....not a bloody premier league team. its all relative.
  19. When you are work in progress or trying to develop a team.....how can the mood change so dramatically after a reversal......unless its just those fans that never quite fancied him in the first place and are dragging their feet to support him. This manager of ours after 6 months has a win ratio of 38.4%......the demise he has inherited is unprecedented for such a big club......the slide is unparalled. this is a list of managers that preceded him in win ratio's RDM 8.33% Remi Garde 13.04% Tim Sherwood 35.71% Paul Lambert 29.57% Alex McLeish 21.43% Gerard Houllier 35.88% Martin O'Neill 42 .11% The next manager to get north of 40% was John Gregory.....nearly 20 years ago. This is not any old job of taking over from a struggling previous manager, it was a poisonous cesspit of abject failure. None of the defenders of Steve Bruce is claiming he is the messiah,, we are merely recognising the position we were in, not the most attractive of propositions and looking for a man to help repair the grave damage we have experienced. Steve Bruce has averaged 38% win rate in his whole career and we as a club have average 41% in our whole history. This is not a failing manager......its not one that is pulling up trees either, but I guess even if he was, that could attract dubious views too. This rectification is not going to be as quick as some thought but we must give him a chance......and for all those Who think there is a clutch of managers, who can do better, have another glance at the list of over eight years. There is nothing to suggest that one of these personally preferred managers that some of the fans harbour in their thoughts, would escape that list below Steve Bruce. just remember......a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
  20. When an opponent is faced by one of our players, more interested in getting hit by the ball, by shying away.......the best thing he could do is stick it in the net.....and he did.
  21. There is no legislating against player error. overall it seems like we played well and it does look like we are getting better. The finishing is an issue, but I'm sure they will get that right.
  22. That is players not closing down and shying away from an opponent. not game plans and management......its player basic errors.
