  1. I reckon we're going to win this - so much so i put a bet on at 8.5 - 1, and 5 bucks on ayew to score us to win at 21-1. New manager bounce, plus a team no one's seen yet and that city will be expecting to be crap. Throw in a bit of love for the snake and it might throw their whole team UTV We can do it!!!!!
  2. I'm pretty nervous about the squad, it will either herald the dawning of a new era (maybe) or be the same old shite - in which case I'm going to bed.
  3. To be fair other fans probably say the same about us now. For what it's worth I think we'll win today. Snake O.G
  4. Agree with this. Tim Sherwood is basically still playing Captain, he wants to lead the team not manage them. If he were in a normal job he'd be the shop steward, he wouldn't be the boss. And this is his problem. He can rile a team up, the players like him and want to do well for him, but you still need someone to put in place a strategy or system.
  5. I could be making this up, but didn't he have endless run ins with duverne when he was here last time?
  6. I think this is from the game where he calls one of the opposition players an asshole quite audibly from the sidelines for diving
  7. I have a real soft spot for Bacuna, but am always left with the feeling he's not quite good enough. I don't think it's his work rate either if he could just be a little more consistent or show marked improvement in defending, or was just a little less lightweight. I always want him to just improve a bit more to get up to scratch but I don't think he will unfortunately - still an ok squad player for the moment.
  8. Needs to be benched for a while, he was so static today. Yes he's only a young kid, but if he doesn't sort himself out, he'll piss his talent up the wall. The summer antics, his attitude on the pitch in some games suggest he needs to mentally get to grips with the position he's in and yes he's young, so he might not be able to.
  9. he s certainly cut of the right cloth
  10. Yeah I also found that a bit baffling. I've been basing my explanations for the Grealish and the team's poor performances on the assumption that they couldn't wait to see the back of him. A bit of a worry imo. Because Sherwood showed belief in Grealish and gave him his first real run in the side. It's not baffling at all Yeah, apparently Sherwood loved Jack, played him in most games, so no wonder he's upset.
  11. Considering Aston Villa whimpered to a 4-0 defeat in their last cup final in May, Tim Sherwood’s latest missive was perhaps the most ill-advised yet. Packaged as a “must-win” game against Swansea, Villa looked just as lifeless and listless as they had in their previous eight Premier League games. It is now nine league games without victory. After an insipid first half, it appeared as though a rousing half-time Timmy team-talk had inspired his players. Jordan Ayew, signed by Sherwood for £10million in the summer, stooped to head home and Villa Park erupted with relief. It was a relief that lasted six minutes. Gylfi Sigurdsson fired home a free-kick soon after, and Andre Ayew crowned another defeat for Sherwood, his 16th – and surely last – in 28 games with three minutes remaining. Sherwood boasted of a fully-fit squad before the game, a statement which prompted yet more questions as soon as his starting line-up for a “must-win” game was announced. Alan Hutton, Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott and Kieran Richardson should not have formed a Premier League defence eight years ago, never mind in 2015. Gabby Agbonlahor should not still feature in top-flight games, never mind start them. Villa’s best player in Carles Gil remains on the bench. Rudy Gestede – a man backed by Sherwood as the best header in English football – is fielded, but with no wingers on the pitch. A litany of mistakes, and that was before kick-off. Bear in mind this is a side who spent more than every other Premier League club aside from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United this summer. The problems at Villa run as deep as they do high in the infrastructure, but that no longer excuses Sherwood’s clear unsuitability not only for the Villa job, but for any managerial post currently. “That’s my job as a manager to take that responsibility. I’m not in the background, am I? I’m the manager, I get paid to stand at the front and take it on the chin and that’s what I’m doing.” Now shackled by a win percentage of just 35% at Villa Park, this appears to be Sherwood’s last defence. He is a Football Man, willing to ‘front up’ and, as the leadership cliches pour out of his mouth, “take it on the chin”. The thing is, no-one has ever doubted Sherwood’s determination. The issue is that he simply isn’t a Premier League manager; he’s a barely a Football League one. As speculation concerning his job mounted throughout the week, Sherwood delivered a 427th embattled message: “I’m easy with it. My job doesn’t change. I still need to win a football match which I’m aware of. I’ll be taking full responsibility for the team’s performance and we’ll win tomorrow.” Sherwood will surely therefore take “full responsibility” for his side having less shots than their opponents, less passing accuracy than their opponents, less passes than their opponents and less possession than their opponents. Oh, and less goals for their opponents. This, after all, was a Swansea side who had not tasted victory of any kind since August. Only two sides have been on a worse run of form that Garry Monk’s men: 19th-placed Villa and rock-bottom Sunderland. If the Black Cats extend their Wear-Tyne winning run over Newcastle on Sunday, Villa replace them at the foot of the table. Adamant war cries of “we’ll win tomorrow” are all well and good, and a clear staple of the Sherwood management theory. This does quite the disservice to Brendan Rodgers, but they are bosses built in a similar mould. Few are better equipped to lead a confident side in the midst of a good run of form, but both struggle to ignite that form in the first place. Nick Miller asked a fortnight ago not only whether Sherwood was a good manager, but whether he was even a manager at all. What is clear is that at some point he has to back up the bluster. All signs suggest that he can’t. “Am I going to be in the job next week? I’m not the person to ask. I feel like the club is in a hole,” Sherwood added after the game. What he fails to see is that he is the one holding the shovel. Another journalist who doesn't know the difference between less and fewer. Basic English!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's fine to use less in that context, it doesn't follow the 'rule' but the rule is bollocks. Surely Fox can see from a business point of view that it's not sensible to keep him? It is indeed bollocks, nice to see someone stand up to prescriptivist nonsense. However, when the writer says 'Oh, and less goals for their opponents', he clearly meant 'than' instead of 'for', so the writer did make a mistake. I think interns write this stuff, the grauniad, it ain't
  12. Lambert's head went. He was given a near impossible task and it wrecked him. It's a shame because I do think he had a lot of potential and most people were pretty happy when we signed him, but the budget constraints were insanity imo! We had a bunch of bloated underperformers and no money to try and improve the squad. Ultimately I think it ground him down, I mean remember we had a good start to last season, so he had the skill to do something right, but years of teetering on the precipice and just not being able to compete quality wise finished him off - I mean we were up against teams with single players who cost more than our whole squad. It's a pity, if the lambert who managed Norwich was available I d take him again in a heartbeat but he's ruined
  13. First off do the players or even the back room staff like TS? I very much doubt it, I mean come on, we've all worked for a Sherwood. Some blagger who is way out of his depth, doesn't listen to the people who have experience in the areas he doesn't, gets defensive when challenged on mistakes he s making and when it all goes down the toiilets throws various employees under the bus. I bet the players hate him to be honest, and we're asking 'what does Wilkins do', at a rough guess makes suggestions he ignores. As for why the club haven't sacked him, I wonder (hope dear god please) if he does have a clause in his contract where he gets the boot if he goes 9 games without a win, or 7 losses in a row etc. If he does it would explain, first off why he''s one of the highest paid managers in the PL wth zero experience and secondly why the 2 game rumour is flying around It also explains his suicidal quotes to the press. Anyway probably more wishful thinking than anything but I really hope it's true - oh and that the club doesn't bring in Nigel Pearson as a replacement!
  14. you know why, because it s easier. I work as a freelance writer over here and used to be a full time journo (yes I know like every other VTer). Deadlines are shorter and the pay is crapper, but the demand for content, especially click bait opinion is huge. So what s the easier position? Look at the players we ve lost, the fact TS rode to the rescue last season and this season we have a completely new team, crashing and burning, and take the 'Tim's being shafted' position or look at the end of last season, tactics and formations and the calibre, reputation of players bought in and take the 'Tim's crap' stance. A layman pundit can give you 800 words on the former in around 2 hours, even as a Villa fan the latter is going to take a lot longer to write and would take a lot more work. I think that s why a lot of media opinion backs him - because it's easy.
  15. I agree. We have put up with a load of crap over the last five years, relegation would be the cherry on a shit sundae. this is the real problem I only. We re all so fed up after years of this dross, that what we really want is to yell at randy or tim, WTF ARE YOU DOING, but we don't have that option. So we come in here. I'm also an o/s fan but I happen to think most supporters want him gone so I don't think proximity to VP accounts for difference of opinion. As for Tim, for get keeping us in the PL, does anyone think he could bring us back up from the championship? If the team just weren't geling but the tactics were right I d happily give him more time despite the results, but he is floundering badly. They have strategy in the fizzy pop league to ya know. And if we d gone down last year I think we would have kept Grealish and possibly Gil, I think if we go down now we'll lose these players plus half of our French imports. Just depressing.
  16. What a load of sh1te. In terms of the players Gana has generally been very good and hit the ground running, Veretout seems to be settling, and Ayew - the jury's out on but could come good. Idiotic managerial decisions are the problem
