  1. Well said Mr Lerwill. I'd like to see this whole project relaunched, it seems to have stalled a bit and I think it needs all of the fan groups to come together (perhaps under the stewardship of someone within the club) to make it a reality. A tribute to these three men would indeed be a fitting and suitable sight for visitors to Villa Park.
  2. General, With the International weekend meaning no Villa game on Saturday, is there any chance that the Academy game against the team from across the city (the piglets?) scheduled for Saturday could be moved to Villa Park. Otherwise I'll just wander round the house bumping into things or worse still get involved in shopping. Cheers, OBE
  3. Now I've had to dig out different drum. I prefer the Evan Dando version.
  4. I should demand that as a freebie General. Otherwise, turn the heating off in the camera gantrys during the winter! :winkold:
  5. That reads; -Opening of story. -Generals quotes. -Mr Gold is the peoples champion. -The General is a nasty man and has been lying to his fans. -Last word as ever to a spokesman from small heath. Hardly the Generals side of the story is it? I for one would thank you General for trying to stick up for the everyday football fan in opposition to those who are lying to their own fans across the city. I think the paper should be ashamed of itself.
  6. VT members all over Britain are now scrambling around trying to work out how they can get to their nearest pasty for lunch. You're a cruel man Mr Bland.
  7. They remind me of Flowered Up. I think that's a good thing.
  8. A cracking analysis there BOF. One note on the big man-small man combo; our small man is 5'11" and 12 stone. Which makes him one the leagues biggest small men! I'd also argue that with a big man up front, attacking wingers and aerially dominant centre halves, this is MON's traditional tactic; updated and with better players but still the same principles. You've mentioned the word fearless a few times in there, and that for me is the biggest change. This squad has a fantastic attitude, they look like they expect to win and they clearly don't give a fig for reputations. That bodes well for the future.
  9. Not on Monday Ian, mad dash from work I'm afraid, but I was in there Sunday for the SCG and I felt that was a lot more lively than when I visited on a week day. It's really nice building, but pubs are made from people and it's only a baby. Not all the games are at VP by the way, Walsall's site says that the reserves derby will be played at Bescot. They usually move them as we approach winter and the pitch becomes a concern. It's a real pity that the Blues game is being moved and I would hope they'll move it back if we're in with a chance of winning the league. It's the last day of the season and i can't think of anything better than parading the trophy in front of the noses at Villa Park!
  10. He doesn't look to have grown much and it's a tough spot to get into, so it's difficult to say. If he maintains this form though, he'll surely be considered if we have unjuries or suspensions.
  11. Before the game I'd predicted that Gardner would stay at right back, Knight wouldn't make the bench, we'd play 4-3-3, and we'd lose to Chelsea without much fuss. Wrong? Oh yes! Stupid? Maybe. Happy? It's nearly midnight and I'm still smiling! What A great day to be a Villa fan.
  12. General, I've just read on Walsalls official site that the club is planning on playing the reserves derby game against small heath at Bescot Stadium. Is there any way this one could be moved to Villa Park, it's the only reserves game with an atmosphere, usually attracts a decent crowd, and with a minimum of promotion could atttract a very healthy number and prove profitable for the club both on and off the pitch. Any game against our poor relation from across the city generates excitement and attention, and it would be much more fitting for this game to have a more suitable arena. Cheers, OBE
  13. Happy happy joy joy. A welcome return to BOF's stats thread.
  14. There seemed to be a plethora of handballs today. I think Maloney is doomed / blessed with the tag of supersub. It was clear today that the fella needs a song, so does Ashley Young.
  15. Just one point; Gareths improved contract remains an unconfirmed rumour.
  16. Surely we already knew that, the General has mentioned it several times in the past, Richard Fitzgerald has I'm sure mentioned it at some point. I'm not sure of your reasons for bringing it up and I'm not sure we've learned anything new. Still, congratulations to you for putting the point so well and getting the formal response that you needed.
  17. It's an interesting supposition. I think it's possible to construct a very good team of players on £45k a week, however if it were true, why now? If we make a signing or two in the next few days and they are paid the same £45k, then it might be worth looking at where we are and whether this will be a long term ceiling or not. If not, then why put Barry's wage up now? Personally I think it's just reward for a player who has been outstanding foor the last few seasons, and no more than that.
  18. On a more positive note , are you aware that Saturday's crowd was the largest at Villa Park for 13 years? Also I've read on another site that we may have now broken the season ticket sales record, can you confirm the current number please? Thank you, OBE
  19. blobbyrob click here you'll find some answers to the question in the main story and more on page 2 of the comments thread. (Hope you don't mind me fielding that one General!)
