  1. They got a sort of social momentum going in the late eighties, and now it's no more acceptable for a Newcastle fan to miss a home game than it is for them to wear a coat. It's strange, but I think there's a point somewhere in attendance where some sort of breakthrough is made, and once you get there the tickets start to sell themselves. Malc, are there any obvious breaks in the figures ? Do they fit into bands ?
  2. Ony wotsit Gooch fella has gone to Newcastle on loan. (Sorry if it's already been mentioned.)
  3. General, You seem to be having a positive effect. I think Mr FitzGerald would be very pleased to read this; Click here : Fans returning Lets hope that this is happening in larger numbers across the whole fanbase. OBE
  4. Reading through those 6 points really does hammer home how much things have changed. Good things are happening so fast that it becomes easy to take them for granted, thanks for the reminder. Oh, and I have the feeling that those £60 shirts are ones that have actually been worn by players in training or games. Hence the extra value. On the subject of height, is it true that your dad got a friend to hit him over the head with a piece of wood so that the bump on his head would give him the height he needed to join the marines ? (My apologies if this crazy story isn't true, I read it somewhere.)
  5. I agree, the recent comments seem to be part of an ongoing desire to keep the momentum of the summer going, it had almost ground to a halt in the last few weeks, but now the new signings and the recent releases of good positive news seem to have brought it back to life. I think you can put the type of positive statement we've seen in recent days in the box marked improved marketing. If you can persuade people they are in at the beginning of something big, you can sell ticket and shirts alongside the hopes and dreams.
  6. Absolutely, looked like a very deliberate and very thorough bridge burning. I wonder if it was the agent trying to adjust the price to something a bit more reasonable.
  7. The Premiership is a little different from most leagues, British football is a madhouse. Players from abroad seem to either love the Premiership or hate it. If he likes it, I don't think we'll have too much trouble keeping him interested.
  8. That interview was a hatchet job !!! If I was a West Ham fan I'd be absolutely appalled by it. He basically wants out, he'll do his best for 14 games but he wants to leave in the summer, he doesn't like what's happening at the club, he's unhappy. If ever an interview said both ; a.) Come and get me and b.) I don't want to be here. This was it. His agent may have succeeded in knocking several million pounds off his price in one foul swoop. He might also have succeeded in getting him lynched at Upton Park. I'd have him here in a heartbeat. Do you think they might take the twins in part-ex ?
  9. Ha Ha ! This is my football club, there are many like it, but this one is mine.
  10. General, How many US troops are there based in the UK ? Are you able to make them all Villa fans as a direct order ?
  11. General, Please be careful when making numerous large signings in quick succession, and then releasing a five year plan that includes us playing in the Champions league. We're not used to this sort of excitement, and I have heard rumours that one or two of our more delicate supporters have started to spontaneously combust with delight. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved in making this a great great week to be a Villa fan !
  12. symmouk, perhaps the club can help by putting you all in touch with each other, or helping you all find out about places like this, so that you can club together on driving or approach a coach company as a collective for reduced rates. It could be something as simple as establishing a mailing list for you of all the London based fans and allowing you to send a mail shot.
  13. West Ham are playing death or glory, if they do go down they are really really going to be in big trouble. As far as I know, this money is being borrowed on the value of the club, not donated by the biscuit farmer. Expect some "unusual" results involving West Ham towards the end of the season. Slightly more on topic, West Ham have some good players ( good enough for the FA cup final last year ) who are being displaced by all these signings they're trying to make. Surely there are one or two players here we can get ?
  14. I think he's perfect for the bench, If we're struggling to score he can replace a midfielder, if we're trying to hold on to a lead he can replace a forward. Not sure he's a candidate for 90 minutes again though !
  15. I agree, and I think the General has made it clear that he does to. But he's also made it clear he's not going to talk about it hasn't he ? Are you at the reserves tomorrow General ?
  16. He's right General, you should be at the front of the Holte.
  17. Here Although the article also says we could counter. And it's in the Daily Mail  It's not yet being reported anywhere else. SSN hasn't "gone yellow."
  18. I wonder if Doyles injury for Reading today will serve to push prices for strikers up even further ? Hope not. Like Oaks, I think we'll see one this week. I've got no evidence, just a feeling.
  19. General, How's our new Chief Exec getting on, I hope he's enjoying these few quiet weeks and finding his feet ? :winkold: Please pass on our best wishes to Mr Fitzgerald and wish him the best of luck.
  20. A nice piece, and I agree with almost all of it. I've just got a niggling feeling that it could have been written by a Liverpool fan in 2005. Maybe this is just how he is ? I'm not convinced Milan will ever turn the corner completely and be the player he can be, I think he's destined to see out his career looking like he might.
  21. I'm not sure whether £5m + Davenport + Routledge adds up to more than £7m. Maybe at a push £2m for Routledge and £1m for Davenport would give them £8m, but both of these would probably want more money than Young. I wonder how much he's on at the moment, I'd be suprised if it was more than 10k a week. Davenport and Routledge would want three times that between them.
  22. Whilst I don't agree with Malcolm on many of the points in this article, isn't the point that there is no official line on VT. It's this that means that any and all opinions are valid, and that's why I come. If I stop reading the people I disagree with, I'll never know why they disagree with me, and I'll never learn anything.
  23. A scathing attack on no-one on particular ?
  24. I think Ashley Young will sign as soon as Boothroyd has finished trying to talk his price up and O'Neill has stopped trying to pretend he won't pay it.
