  1. Yes or apart from the big fact that Celtic made it out of the group stage that is. No brainer to check facts before posting.
  2. Looks like we might be actually be going to get this guy. Maybe a bit premature saying that but heres hoping. http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/aston-villa-fc/2013/05/30/aston-villa-look-to-beat-celtic-to-alexsandar-tonev/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  3. No chance . He's valued at £10m . Lambert doesn't do expensive. He's a true Scot. Well hes the right age and has a grest attitude so ticks the boxes. I think we would pay 10-12 if the right player was available. Would have to ne special though which i think McCarthy is. Its an interesting point whether Lambert will come further up the leagues to find talent. Less of a gamble but will have to pay a premium. Well if hes following Dortmunds philosophy he will. They signed 1 or 2 at around that price. As i say if the special player is available i believe he will. Age/attitude then price

  5. James McCarthy whats the chances of us getting him
  6. Feck it pay the 10 million for James McCarthy. Be worth every penny
  7. If we can get £8m for a 30 year old Bent, and get a £2-3m 25 year old replacement in Austin, then I would say its a good bit of business. both would be ineffective in our current system. I wouldnt compare Austin to Bent. Think they are different types of players. Be good business 2 mill for 23 year old and 6 for 29-30 year old Yep except we paid 24m for Bent so selling him for 6m isn't exactly good business in anyone's book unless we just forget about the other 18m. At this moment in time it would be exceptionally good business. And how do you know for a fact we paid 24 instead of 18?

  9. When you mention Stearling at Liverpool, most of Liverpools contracts are performance based now. i.e. their wages increase to certain brackets when they meet certain targets and amount of games played. Skertel and Stearling both signed pefromance related contracts last summer. Could be something Villa employ here.
  10. In regard to the new groundsman, you mean? Not quite. The story on the OS went something like, two blokes that were working under Calderwood and have been at the club for years are taking up his work, but splitting it - one is doing the pitch at VP, the other the pitches at BH. Yeah i guess the new groundsmen will just have to learn by trowel and error when he goes.
  11. Going to Celtic apparently.. Apparently not..... He's still not decided.... Could be because we have come in for him? I hope so, from what i read he is a very good player. Havent seen him play though.
  12. And for all those ones saying its snobery and only want to wear Nike or Addidas that not true either in my case. I still wear away at the Hummel- 32Red kit.
  13. I'm refusing to buy a Macron Kit. It's like something you would buy in one of them markets in Thailand. Really cheap looking and poor quality. I'll be wearing the old Nike kit for the next 40 years.
  14. Its like Villa, only on a smaller scale. We cant keep hold of our good players either so i dont feel sorry for anyone.
  15. Yes, as i mentioned at the the start of last week on this Thread, Hull want him and i dont believe anything as changed. Fingers crossed we get at least 6million.
  16. There, from the man himself. He isnt looking a payoff to leave the club. http://www.independent.ie/sport/shay-given-confirms-he-is-to-quit-villa-29299383.html “There was a newspaper story during the week that I was looking for a pay-off to end my contract with Aston Villa and leave the club, but there’s no truth to that whatsoever.
  17. or IMO his agent is trying to keep Bentekkes reputation intact. Last thing Bentekke needs is to look like a trouble maker 2 years running. It would certainly put off a few teams.
  18. School is more important, don't worry about this in the slightest bulshit aston villa is moar inportant than scool. Well i think you are a perfect example of why that is not true: moar? scool? hmm. Bet you Bentekke didn't do well at school and look where he is now! Not at the contract table anyway.
  19. If Bentekke says what has been reported, then i dont hold out much hope. It could be all Agent talk and spin though, as thats what they get paid for. i.e To get him the highest deal possible.
  20. Well i didnt say he was worth the 5 year contract. The fact is he did keep us up last year and going down would have been a disaster. Your right i dont know how another keeper would have done, but they would have had to been extremly good. Im not being speculative as he did keep us up.
  21. Ok we are defn improving and have a plan. Just a question, what is our plan B? We play counter attacking football with same system. Other teams arent stupid and will eventually suss it out. We will need to mix it up from game to game. Bradford actually done it the second leg. Everone behind the ball and stoke done it at villa park
  22. Hindsight and all that! I cant remember many people saying this at the time....or indeed anytime during that first year. Then without meaning to be rude your memory is letting you down because there were a far few on here saying it. Wouldnt be the first time However that line has been taken slightly out of context. What I meant was he may have not come here had we not offered him such a contract, and everyone seemed quite happy we got him at the time! They really weren't, that is the point plenty of people weren't convinced it was a good signing at the time. I was one of them. Well u could argue he kept us in prem league. Maybe he covered his 5 year contract by doing that. Still 5 year contract was a joke.
  23. Thought we had already done that, some Irish kid, (on here a few pages back). Think he was only 15//16 Yeah a 17 year old striker from cliftonvile
  24. Richard you said you wouldn't! I really don't think were interested. I see us signing an understudy to Bennett. - at £6m Cresswell has to be a non starter. Understudy to Bennett? Seriously. Bennett couldnt even tie Creswells boots
