I suspect most people in this country couldn't give a toss whether Lineker fronts MOTD or whether the other non-entities appear on Football Focus, Final Score or Strictly Skating Idol or whatever shite the BBC considers itself good at, these days. The bloke's entitled to his opinion, but equally we're all entitled to view him as a smug pompous clearing in the woods. I think the point a lot of people are forgetting, is that quite a high number of people are actually in agreement with the government's proposed new policy, that Lineker's got his knickers in a twist about. (I'm not buying or selling either way as I don't claim to know enough about the subject). There'll be the usual virtue signalling c-listers versus the so called right wing pundits calling each other names for a week and then it'll die down. BBC management will go back to being an extension of Tory Central office, whilst BBC news will go back to being an extension of the Socialist Workers party. T'was ever thus.....

I'm well aware that I'm about to be labelled the oldest of old farts and a boring feck, but the thought of drums and trumpets to generate an atmosphere leaves me cold. Its football, not the bleeding darts.... If the team plays well, the atmosphere will be great....if they don't, it might get toxic....thats how it goes. Its a tribal, passionate emotive game. Manufactured cheer leading shite is for manufactured shit sports like wrestling, baseball and that game in America they have the cheek to call football. I've paid to go and watch...and occasionally vent my spleen. If you're sat next to me and don't agree, fine....have your say too, tell me I'm a dick, I won't be offended, its my 90 minutes of the week where I'm not bothered about family, work, life etc. Just stop trying to make football grounds into some homogenised happy clapper emporium of shits and giggles......especially don't make it like Selhurst feckin Park.

I hate to break it to you pal, but I'm in my late 50's. My first game was Rotherham in Div 3 (League 1 to you lovely lads). I've seen the Villa go from dogshit to magnificent and all stations in between. Doesn't make me a 'better Villa fan' or any cleverer than anyone else. So I have no clue what you mean by newness and novelty. I wasn't expecting 7 or 8 today - we don't need that many. What we do need, are improvements to the current squad.....in my opinion, we haven't made any significant improvements, if anything the squad is weaker. He's done a great job...for 7 or 8 games. This does not make him Ron Saunders or the font of all wisdom. In fact, I'd argue that the marked improvement in performances since Emery took over, should have made us hungrier to boost the squad given the relatively poor form of some teams. We have an opportunity that we didn't expect, but may potentially pass us by.

I'll be really disappointed if thats our only business, this transfer window ; we've bought a left back for a position that didn't really need strengthening this window and an up an coming kid for the future. Meanwhile, we've binned our top goalscorer with no thought to a replacement......how lovely.

It would bother me.....the myth of Ings fitness against Watkins scoring record troubles me. We have no 'fox in the box'....relying on willing runners and pressers up front whilst hoping for a few seconds of brilliance from the wing or midfield will win you nothing. Proven time and again unfortunately.....
